Step 2: Teach Lesson
Tell the student, We are going to learn about how animals prepare for winter.
Ask the student, to describe what they do differently when winter comes. Allow the student time to respond.
Read aloud How and Why Animals Prepare for Winter
. As you read, have the student interact by discussing the different animal
After reading about migratory animals, have the student complete the migratory section of the book and draw animals that migrate in
the wintertime.
Repeat with hibernating and active animals
If you have access to pictures of animals, have the student sort them into groups: migratory, hibernating, or active animals. Then
have the student paste the animals onto the How Animals Prepare for Winter worksheets below (paste the animals in the correct
area of the worksheet according to what the animal does)
End the lessons by making pinecone birdfeeders (Click here for instructions).
