This year, “Ignite U” strives to help you build rm foundations and ignite your potential to spread the ames of benecial experiences.You are about to embark on a journey that will present you with challenges, opportunities, and experiences as you sharpen your academic skills and grow into a globally minded citizen. Soon you will join a vibrant, active, and diverse community of students, faculty, and sta, and we couldn’t be more eager to meet you soon!Our oce provides underrepresented and ethnically diverse students with programs, services, and resources to support student success and growth. In addition, we advocate for a culturally enriched University of Miami community, which supports, values, and celebrates its diversity.In addition to Horizons, we hope you stay connected to our oce by attending our many programs, joining student organizations, and giving back to our close-knit community. In doing so, you will make connections with your peers as well as sta and faculty members who can help you navigate college life. Welcome to The U and go ’Canes!MSA hosts more than 150 programs including Cultural Competency programs, Diversity Week, Horizons, Life Skills Leadership, Brave Spaces, Culture Pop-Up, Real Talk, and Senior Mwambo. MSA advises more than 30 student organizations that focus on cultural identities, diversity, leadership, men’s and women’s empowerment, poetry, pre-professional societies, social justice, and special interest populations.MSA works with several student organizations and departments to coordinate cultural celebrations including: ฀• Asian/Pacic Islander Heritage Month฀• Black Awareness Month฀• Caribbean Cultural Celebrations฀• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration• ฀Hispanic Heritage Month฀• Native American MonthNetwork with faculty and sta: Connect with University faculty and sta to gain valuable insight on navigating your academic, professional, and student life at The U.Connect with new and returning students: Through a series of fun and engaging activities, you will make connections with your peers and discuss issues relevant to new students.Explore mentorship opportunities: Meet our team of Horizons mentors and counselors who have been specically selected for their knowledge of the University and the surrounding community.
