DIRECTOR’S NOTES When I was 3 years old, I performed my rst theatrical role as a duckling and froglet in Honk! My family sll recounts the story of how I would not leave the stage during a blackout and my dad, playing Drake in the show, had to come on stage and scoop me up. I like to say that they knew then that I would never leave the stage. I had the pleasure of performing in Honk! JR. in middle school as the Bullfrog, exing my funny bone for the rst me. So when I was oered the opportunity to direct a show that has been a part of my life for so long, I knew that I had to be involved! Let’s be honest: being a kid is hard. Learning who you are and navigang the dicules of growing up is hard, especially if you don’t feel accepted by those around you. My goal this summer was not only to put on a great producon, but to make every kid feel heard and seen. I have had the absolute pleasure of geng to know each and every one of these kids, and they have truly taught me as much I hope I have taught them. While you probably have already heard the story of the Ugly Duckling, I think that its message has never been more important than it is in our world today. Being “dierent” is hard, and there are always people that will make you feel bad about standing out in a crowd. This is a story of acceptance, of others and of ourselves. I hope that today you are reminded to not only be kind to those around you that are dierent, but to be kind to yourself and accept what makes you, YOU! Thank you so much for your support of our producon. We are grateful for your support of youth theater and The Barn Playhouse! Amanda Lamphere
