UCSF NEW HOSPITAL AT PARNASSUS HEIGHTSSAN FRANCISCO, CAThe new hospital at UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights will be the centerpiece of a comprehensive plan to transform the entire campus that continues to drive innovations in care delivery, discovery, and health sciences education and honors the University’s longstanding commitment to the community. In January, UCSF reached a Memorandum of Understanding with the city that will strengthen the community by addressing priorities like mental health, housing, transit, jobs, and workforce development. ZUCKERBERG SFGH & TRAUMA CENTER (ZSFGH)SAN FRANCISCO, CAZSFGH is a modern medical facility with 284 beds and a 40,000-square-foot emergency room; the hospital provides comprehensive care to patients with various medical needs. It also boasts a 20,000-square-foot radiology department, 13 operating rooms, intensive care units, critical care, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics, pediatrics, sterile processing, pharmacy, laboratory, pulmonary function, biomedical, morgue, and autopsy services. In addition to its healthcare services, the hospital is home to 20 UCSF research centers, making it a hub for medical research and innovation.One of the notable features of ZSFG is its earthquake-resistant design, which includes 115 triple-pendulum-bearing base isolators that ensure the hospital withstands earthquakes and other natural disasters. The project was completed on a fully operational campus that has been in use since 1872. U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL GUAMTUTUHAN, GUAMThe U.S. Naval Hospital Guam is a full-service hospital with 42 beds and a range of short-term acute care services, including emergency medicine, ICU, inpatient procedures, pediatrics, optometry, physical therapy, mental health services, laboratory, and pharmacy. The hospital consists of four structures three levels above grade, with surface parking totaling one acre and 912 stalls. The phased project includes an expansion of the Central Utility Plant and multiple support buildings.The hospital project was critical to relocating 8,000 Marines and their family members from Okinawa, Japan. Despite the existing hospital remaining operational during construction, the project was completed on time and within budget, with the old hospital being demolished after the new one opened. SETON MEDICAL CENTER GERIATRIC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNITDALY CITY, CAThe Seton Medical Center Gero-Psychiatric Facility project was a renovation on the 8th floor of the Seton Medical Center. This project provided a Gero-Psychiatric Unit for patients with Alzheimer's and dementia-related illnesses. The 8th floor had been vacant for almost 15 years before the renovation. The design-build project features 15 patient rooms, 15 restrooms, two large day rooms, and one therapy room.Square Feet: 15,000Client: Seton Medical CenterSJSU AUDIOLOGY RENOVATIONSAN JOSE, CAThe San Jose State Audiology Renovation was a design-build eort to improve the audiology lab and classroom spaces. The project included areas for fitting and adjusting hearing aids, performing electrophysiology testing within a radio-frequency shielded room, vestibular testing, and a full audiometric suite with two testing booths and a booth for middle ear analysis. UCSF WAYNE AND GLADYS VALLEY CENTER FOR VISIONSAN FRANCISCO, CAThe UCSF Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision is a mixed-use project designed by SmithGroupJJR. This 20-level building includes a 12-level tower, a five-level south wing, and a three-level north wing with a rooftop garden. The project also features surface parking with 75,000 square feet of space and 200 stalls. Located across from the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, the project provides space for scientific initiatives that require desktop space near other UCSF research programs, such as the Institute for Computational Health Sciences, the CERSI/Drug Development Ecacy Research, the Genomic Medicine Initiative Core, and the Bio-banking Core. As an OSHPD Level 3 project, the building meets rigorous safety standards. UC SAN FRANCISCO PARNASSUS HEIGHTS HEALTH SCIENCES INSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH SEISMIC PROGRAMSAN FRANCISCO, CAThe Health Sciences Instruction and Research (HSIR) complex includes two large high-rise research laboratory towers on the Parnassus Heights Campus. Each building is fully occupied and operational during normal working hours. A primary goal for the project is to complete the needed scopes of work while minimizing disturbances to the occupants. The towers, designated as Health Sciences East (HSE), floors 1-16, and Health Sciences West (HSW), floors 2-16, each has a stair and mechanical tower, connect to a central elevator tower with support services. The elevator core also connects to the Medical Sciences Building on every floor. The building complex was constructed in 1966 and provides approximately 440,000 gross-square-foot of laboratory spaces, lecture halls and other support spaces to the University. SANTA CLARA VALLEY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES CENTERSAN JOSE, CAThe Child, Adolescent, and Adult Behavioral Health Services Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), designed by HGA, is a new facility that integrates Santa Clara County's behavioral health services under one roof, including Emergency Psychiatric Services and Urgent Care. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2025, it will oer a County-operated inpatient facility designed specifically for children and adolescents who require behavioral healthcare. The facility will have a separate floor dedicated to adult patients. Our team faced the significant challenge of designing this facility to be 40% more energy-ecient than similar facilities. To overcome this challenge, our in-house sustainability team added cost-ecient features such as VRF Heat Recovery systems, double-paned low-e windows, eco-friendly paint, carpet and wood, high-recycled content concrete and steel, drought-tolerant landscaping, and low-flow plumbing fixtures. This project provides Class A laboratory and oce spaces, a restaurant, and commercial recreation spaces over a naturally ventilated open parking structure. It includes three structures, each five levels above a two-story podium garage. The project features a shared outdoor area that overlooks the San Francisco Bay. Genesis Marina is the world's first precertified TRUE Construction Site, recognizing its adherence to zero waste and circular economy principles. UC MERCED SUSTAINABILITY RESEARCH AND ENGINEERINGMERCED, CAThe Sustainability Research and Engineering building is a ground-up education project designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It is one of two new buildings that anchor the academic quad of the UC Merced 2020 Expansion project. The four-story structure includes wet and dry laboratories, conference rooms, break rooms, gathering spaces, and a partial basement that links the laboratory to a shaded loading dock. The building's design incorporates natural daylight, ecient mechanical systems, and energy-ecient lighting. The exterior combines concrete and metal panels, creating a striking visual contrast. The Sustainability Research and Engineering building is an essential addition to the UC Merced campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities to support research and innovation. UC MERCED BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES AND PHYSICSMERCED, CAUC Merced's Biomedical Sciences and Physics building is a five-story higher education project designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It features two classrooms, 52 wet labs, 49 dry labs, 28 conference spaces, 157 faculty oces, 409 workstations, and various amenity spaces. The building also has a vivarium suite, a greenhouse, and a BSL3 suite. The basement is nestled into the existing topography and connects the laboratory to the shared loading dock. This project also features chemical storage rooms, glass wash, and amenity spaces, including break rooms and lobbies.The P3 project was designed to foster collaboration and features state-of-the-art technology and flexible workspaces. 300 KANSASSAN FRANCISCO, CA300 Kansas is a commercial manufacturing facility focusing on production, distribution, and repair (PDR). The structure has six levels, with five above grade and one below. 300 Kansas is an all-electric facility and expects to achieve LEED Gold certification. This goal is achieved by sourcing the building's electricity from 100% renewable energy sources and comprising the structure of low embodied carbon materials.The project includes subterranean parking with 40 stalls and electric vehicle charging. LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY BUILDINGS 25, 33, 74, & 85BERKELEY, CABuildings 25, 33, 74, and 85 are crucial to Berkeley Labs' research mission as they provide state-of-the-art life-science research space, consolidated functions, and improved eciency. B25 was demolished and abated due to its seismically poor structure and modular trailers to make way for the new B33 building. B33 is a three-level, 43,000-square-foot LEED Gold® general-purpose laboratory that promotes interaction between diverse research groups, including the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, the Life Sciences Division, and the Physical Biosciences Division.B74 is a two-level, 45,382-square-foot Earth Sciences Building that underwent modernization, laboratory build-out, demolition, and lead and asbestos abatement. It features upgraded building systems and renovated laboratory and oce spaces, including geothermal laboratories with a computed tomography imaging scanner. B74 is now a LEED Platinum® building with a cafeteria, a central meeting room, and an outdoor courtyard for dining. CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES LABSSAN FRANCISCO, CADesigned by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the California Academy of Sciences is an award-winning cultural destination.
