Armed with her knowledge of productdevelopment and quality management principles, she set out to create a line thatshe would want to use every day with her family and friends.After an extensive research on types of soy wax, wax suppliers, fragrance oilswithout phthalates and wicks, a perfect combination of "nose-friendly" and naturalline of high quality candles was born. Green Papaya's promise is to produce andcarry products that our customers can trust.With 10 scented candles, Green Papaya was launched. We have exhibited in overhundreds of craft and trade shows and obtained new customers by word of mouth.Since introducing our first Classic Collection, Green Papaya has released at leastone product per month. Paraffin and phthalates are byproducts of petroleum.Soy wax is a natural product that is better for everyday use.WHY SOY WAX?Most of the store-bought generic candlesare made from paraffin or some sort ofparaffin-blend. Paraffin comes from different sources,one of which is petroleum, the same stuffthat our gasoline comes from, they arecheaper and they burn faster and give offsoot. If you like to burn candles everyday, try looking at the walls of yourhome where your candles usually burnand wipe it with a piece of paper towel.Do you see a black or ashy type of dirt?That's soot...it can stain the walls andmake your HVAC dirty and cloggedpretty quickly.Soy wax, on the other hand, comes fromsoybeans. Oil is extracted from soybeansand made into wax using an emulsifier(an agent that turns it into a solid state).Since soy wax is plant-based, it burnsmuch cleaner and slower than paraffin.Hence, a better product for everyday use,which is why we love it.There are different types of soy wax andsome companies offer soy-paraffin blend(part soy, part paraffin), we recommendreading the store-bought candle labelscarefully.Another wax that is gaining in popularityis coconut wax, also a natural and cleanalternative to paraffin. Coconut wax canbe blended with soy wax to givebeautiful, creamy candles that burn for along time.WHAT ARE PHTHALATES?Phthalates are chemicals, which arederived from petroleum, like paraffin,and can be found in various householdproducts. They are sometimes used bymanufacturers as "solvents" to"reconstitute" fragrance oils from itspowder form to liquid form. When the hot air from the candle rises, it hits the rotary blade of thecarousel and tries to "push it out of the way", making the ornaments move in aclock-wise direction. Often, they are made of wood, making them fire hazards.
