Herds with as many as 10,000 cattle were driven from Texas over the trail to Kansas. From 1867 to 1889, the Chisholm Trail was the major north to south road on theplains. Over the course of its 20 years,millions of head of cattle andthousands of cowboys traveled the trail. With them came rich stories and traditions from life on the trail. Herds with as many as 10,000 cattle were driven from Texas over the trail to Kansas. From 1867 to 1889, the Chisholm Trail was the major north to south road on theplains. Over the course of its 20 years,millions of head of cattle andthousands of cowboys traveled the trail. With them came rich stories and traditions from life on the trail.
