Leadership: Past,Present & FutureI personally am very excited that in2025 field hockey will officially besponsored by Michigan High SchoolAthletic Association. This opens thedoor for huge growth at the highschool level. Our goal by 2030 is to see the sportdouble in size in Michigan, see high schoolsanctioning in Illinois and Wisconsin, thereinstatement of valuable programs in theMIAA, and growth of NCAA Division 2programs across the Midwest. Partneringwith GLRFH supports these initiatives.GREAT LAKES REGIONAL FIELD HOCKEYANNUAL REPORT 2024A Message from Our Chair & Executive DirectorThank you for reading our 2024 Annual Report. We are excited to share our year’saccomplishments with you. Our leaders have done a fantastic job of partnering withyouth organizations around the region which is fostering the continued growth ofour sport. We are proud of what we learned and accomplished in our first five years. We haveseen multiple new programs grow and have highlighted local community leaders tocontinue to champion the sport in their areas. The addition of field hockey as aMHSAA sanctioned sport and the new collegiate program at John Carroll Universityare both important signs of growth for the region. These are great steps towardsour target list of key outcomes that we hope to see by 2030. As we look forward to 2025, our focus is on raising the rest of the funds for ourField Hockey First Fundraising Campaign and breaking ground on our non-fill fieldhockey field. Our GLRFH Growth Model has proven to be foundational for replication in new communities acrossthe region. In our first 5 years, we developed an important, repeatable model for growth andsuccess. In our next 5 years, we foresee the implementation of this model across the Midwest:Identify all access limitations and barriersSolicit grant-making partners, earmark funding to support startup programsConsider community need for scholarship/reduced rate programming Identify local community leaders in sportHelp create a foundational network of community support Plan introductory programming at a locally serving locationProvide highly trained coaches & volunteers to assist in start-up programming/sports samplingProvide access to low-cost equipmentWork with community leader(s) to plan a series of follow up play opportunitiesProvide continuous support ie. consulting, curriculum and coach educationGLRFH 2024 Grant Recipients $1,000/ea. Diversity, Equity and InclusionGREAT LAKES REGIONAL FIELD HOCKEYANNUAL REPORT 2024A Year in ReviewFree & low-cost programs Equipment & resourcesLocal, meaningful experiencesat existing community hubsScholastic OutreachPartnerships with communityadvocatesGROWTH MODEL:Our core values ensure that all members of our organization, coaches, advocates and athletescreate an environment that is both inclusive and empowering. We teach and model respect, trustand teamwork, encouraging all participants to be engaged community members. Collaboration atthe local level is critical to our growth model as we connect with youth leaders to bringopportunities to existing neighborhood recreational camps, programs, sites and schools inunderserved and under-resourced communities. We work to inspire athletes of all ages by givingthem the confidence to stay in sport and encourage them to give back to the organizations thatserved them. We bring field hockey to where the kids already are. Our coalition work has established strong relationships with community leaders and youth sportsadvocates in several under-resourced communities across Southeast Michigan. These partnershipssupport reducing common access barriers: transportation, equipment and registration fees. Webring programs and equipment to community hubs and familiar events and have created reliableand trusted pathways to expand our programs. Our partnerships also help access field space that iscentrally located and mitigates the transportation restrictions to increase accessibility in newcommunities where field hockey didn’t exist. We work to remove access barriers and expand the playing field. Further expansion of inclusive programs in 2025 will see a February launch of our newest program: GLRFH All-Starz Adaptive Unified Field Hockey for Grades K-12.

Remove barriers to access by providing a regional facility tohost events and competitions currently held outside the region.Welcome diverse participation across a wide range ofindividuals and groups that will grow the sport in all directions. Enable girls to play on a high-quality surface so that collegiateand international opportunities to play will be within their reachand the sport will diversify at these levels. This field is ready to be built! We have secured a location, construction approvals, contractorbids and maintenance agreement. We have programs and partnerships ready to go.SummaryOur everyday wins have us positioned on the verge of exponential growth. The increase in inquiries tohelp add programs in areas that have never had field hockey is exciting, and we are inspired to sharethat our model is working. The word is out on the positive impact field hockey has as a new in-townopportunity for girls in sports. Carrying the momentum from a widelysuccessful 2024, we believe the region is ripe forstructural and foundational changes that willopen opportunities, recognize new leaders andadvocates, provide the foundation for growth ingeographical centers and expand the playingfield for women in sports. On the national field hockey landscape, somesee the Midwest as a vast desert with just a fewsmall pockets of recognized opportunities. As wecontinue to seek support, partnerships andcapital resources, we see a future spike inpopulation of field hockey athletes who will befuture leaders in sport, communities, boardrooms and political organizations. What’s Next?GREAT LAKES REGIONAL FIELD HOCKEYANNUAL REPORT 2024We are driven to impact and create a vibrant, widespread Midwest field hockey community. We are building a place for field hockey athletes to play, learn and thrivethrough sports. In 2025, our goal is to fully fund our field first campaign, a first-of-its-kind professional caliber fieldhockey field in the Midwest. Full access to a public facility that will help close the gender gap in sports, meet the needs of under-resourced communities, remove barriers and help grow the game.In the Great Lakes region, there are very few places where field hockey girls have priority use of high-quality athletic facilities. In fact, in Michigan, there is no single field hockey field dedicated to youthdevelopment that meets international standards for competitive play.Your financial support will make it possible for all athletes to benefit from a sport that fosterscritical thinking, teamwork, self-confidence, healthy choices, and positive well-being.
