GLOBAL CONNECTIONSAT WOODWARD ACADEMYWoodward Academy’s Global Connections program EDUCATES STUDENTS TO BE ENGAGED CITIZENS OF THE WORLD through a range of educational opportunities including partner school exchanges and study abroad, graduating with a distinction in global studies, earning international language certification, hosting an international student, and more. Students develop international competencies and compassion allowing them to flourish in our ever-evolving world.
Woodward-sponsored international trips for Upper School and Middle School students. Programs range in focus, length, and destination. Past programs include language learning and cultural exchange, service learning, science course-credit, performing arts, and more to destinations all over the world spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, South Pacific, and Central/South America. Partner school exchanges are available to Upper School students at our sister schools in France, Germany, China, and Australia. These exchanges typically range from two to three weeks and include a homestay experience while attending school. Students are encouraged to host their partner student back in Atlanta. Study abroad allows students to apply for a summer, semester, or year-long program. Study abroad programs include School Year Abroad and Alexander Muss High School in Israel. Students may study abroad during their junior year, while summer programs are open to a range of ages. Graduation distinction in global studies gives Upper School students the opportunity to dig deeper and explore their role as compassionate global citizens. Students who fulfill the requirements earn a global studies diploma and recognition at graduation. Appli-cation requirements include a language curriculum component, global studies curriculum component, and global reach components ranging from interna-tional-based service, study abroad/school-sponsored travel/exchanges, hosting an international/exchange student, presenting a research project on a global topic, and more. International language certification is available to all students taking one of the five world languages offered in Upper School: Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, or German. Woodward sponsors students to take an internationally-recognized language exam such as the DELE and DELF that denotes a students’ level of proficiency. Passing an exam results in certifi-cation that stays with a student for life, opening new opportunities for studying and working abroad. International student program sponsors students from abroad in obtaining an F-1 visa to study at Woodward with the goal of attending university or college in the United States after graduation. Many students live with Woodward host families.
