The Jim Moran Foundation100 Jim Moran BoulevardDeereld Beach, Florida 33442(954) 429-2122www.jimmoranfoundation.orgMessage from the Chairman and PresidentIt’s hard to believe The Jim Moran Foundation will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025. So much has changed in our communities since my husband decided he would make sure his heart’s desire to provide for children and families would endure beyond his lifetime. What has not changed is our dedication to continuing his legacy. I recall my husband once saying, “Helping to open doors of opportunity for a brighter future is what The Jim Moran Foundation is all about.” Because of his vision for the next generation, our new headquarters is under construction in Broward County — the place my husband called home. During this transition, we remain steadfast in fullling our mission to improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community. In this edition of Giving Back, I invite you to read inspiring stories from some of our longtime partners as well as new relationships that are serving and enriching the lives of others and helping them nd their own path to success. We are so very grateful to be able to honor Jim by being here to make a lasting dierence today, tomorrow and well into the future.Cover: Jim Moran encourages children on their way to summer camp (1994).Photo credit: Sun-Sentinel/TCA

Educating youth and empowering survivors of domestic violence3For 50 years, Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc., (WID) has remained committed to its mission to stop domestic violence for everyone and is the only nationally accredited, state-certied, full-service domestic violence center serving Broward County. Survivors and their children nd a safe place in the temporary housing provided at WID’s emergency shelter, which helps participants rebuild independence and prepare for brighter futures. In 1995, the rst Jim and Jan Moran Family Center opened, which consolidated all WID services into one location; and, in 2011, the new Jim and Jan Moran Family Center, supported personally by Jan Moran, allowed WID to increase its emergency shelter capacity to 136 beds and eight cribs and expand residential and nonresidential resources, such as therapeutic counseling for adults and children. With an ongoing partnership with The Jim Moran Foundation, education continues to be a key component in the prevention of domestic violence. Through the Education and Prevention team at WID, outreach programs are delivered to schools and community partners to promote healthy relationships WID’s Education and Prevention team works with high school peer counseling classes to raise awareness about teen dating violence.and behaviors. Workshops and support groups are also oered to participants in the emergency shelter. Through a crisis hotline, safe shelter, safety planning, counseling, education and outreach, Women In Distress is there to champion domestic violence survivors and help create a violence-free world where love doesn’t hurt. For additional information about Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc., please visit www.widbroward.org.

4A new beginning To learn more about Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc., please visit www.avdaonline.org.Founded in 1985, Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc., (AVDA) oers life-saving services while promoting violence-free, equitable relationships and creating the social changes necessary to end domestic and dating violence in Palm Beach County. One of the many individuals who found a new beginning at AVDA shared her story: I am a survivor of domestic violence, and by the grace of God, family, and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, I am still alive. My abuser picked me up in my lowest moment and treated me as if I was the only woman on the planet until he slowly isolated me. No matter what I did to make him smile, it just got worse and worse. He became increasingly controlling and demanding over everything. I was trapped in horror. When my mother passed away, he told me I was going to join her, and he tried to end my life. My sister helped me escape and told me to nd a safe place. I tried seeking safety, there were no doors open in my entire county. Then I traveled to another state, and he found me. I traveled through three states in a matter of days. I was alone and scared and in despair. I reached Florida, exhausted and continued seeking safety. Again, all doors closed, no beds anywhere until I found Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA). Finally, I was rescued. They saved my life and have lifted me into someone I never thought I could be. I am thankful for them and the daily support and resources. Advocates provided access to transportation, employment seeking, healthcare guidance, nancial assistance, therapy, support groups, emotional support, social health support, secure housing, and basic necessities. Thank you, AVDA, for hearing my cry and revitalizing my soul, making life better as I step towards success. Healing and hope for children and familiesThousands of survivors receive life-saving, life-changing shelter and services through Hubbard House each year. Funded by The Jim Moran Foundation, individual and group counseling are part of Hubbard House’s comprehensive support of the Children Services Program, which serves children and families in its shelter as well as those living throughout Duval County. When a 6-year-old arrived at Hubbard House’s emergency domestic violence shelter with her mother and ve siblings, she was angry, distant and said she wanted a new family. Through the patience and hard work of the children’s counselor and family advocate at Hubbard House, that soon changed. They worked to not only build her trust, but also to create positive bonds with her mom, brothers and sisters. With intensive wraparound support in a caring and safe environment, she has opened up and now says she would not trade her family for anything. 5Caring for seniors at homeHart Felt Ministries provides vital assistance for seniors in Duval County to age in their own homes with safety, dignity and grace. Since 2016, Hart Felt Ministries has developed a bridge of support for older adults experiencing hardship through its Hart Fund for services such as household appliance repair and replacement, yard maintenance, housekeeping and grocery deliveries. Mr. Jerry (pictured right) initially received support from The Hart Fund to pay his past due utility bill as well as help for rent and groceries. Volunteers have also installed a railing at Mr. Jerry’s front steps so he is able to enter and exit his home safely and easily. “I didn’t realize there were ministries that help seniors like you do,” Mr. Jerry told Hart Felt Ministries. “I had tried in the past to nd places and had not had any luck and now it’s changed my outlook on life.”For additional information about Hart Felt Ministries, please visit www.hartfelt.org.Creating community through theaterSlow Burn Theatre Company showcases the best of contemporary musical productions for audiences in Broward County. Recognizing that a lack of reliable transportation, high ticket prices and mobility diculties create barriers for seniors, the Elder Arts Program was developed to bring actor-led workshops to senior centers like the Cantor Center (pictured right). Each workshop features a theme that connects with a Slow Burn Theatre Company show and encourages those in attendance to learn choreography, practice their singing and even compete in trivia. Seniors are also invited to attend Slow Burn Theatre performances at the Broward Center for Performing Arts. Through these workshops and performances, the Elder Arts Program has forged a community for seniors For additional information about Slow Burn Theatre Company, please visit www.slowburntheatre.org.who may otherwise feel isolated and created an atmosphere where age is no longer an obstacle to enjoying theater.

6Pathways to self-sufciencyIn response to the growing crisis of housing insecurity, Broward Partnership has become the largest service provider for residents facing homelessness in Broward County. Through emergency shelter, housing navigation, employment assistance and a focus on overall well-being, Broward Partnership empowers individuals and families on their pathway to independence. A relationship that started with Jim and Jan Moran in 1999 to help open the Central Homeless Assistance Center (CHAC) has continued with The Jim Moran Foundation supporting family housing. Piloting one of the county’s rst rapid rehousing initiatives with Broward Partnership in 2013, more than 150 families have transitioned into stable housing through Families First! In 2021, The Foundation was also a part of helping bring Seven on Seventh, a mixed-use residential apartment community development, to Broward County. Located adjacent to the CHAC, Seven on Seventh oers 72 units of aordable housing, serving as a place of hope. Residents have access to comprehensive case management, which assists in navigating health and social service programs within the community. Additionally, the on-site Workforce Development and Training Hub provides opportunities to learn valuable employment skills. The Fitness Center promotes healthy lifestyle habits, while both children and adults can benet from the Interactive Library to enhance their educational pursuits. To learn more about Broward Partnership, visit www.bphi.org.“Seven on Seventh has been recognized throughout the state as a well-designed, high quality and refined answer to the demand of affordable housing for Broward County’s highly valued workforce and for those who found themselves homeless by way of job loss, eviction, physical and mental impairments. A natural evolution of Broward Partnership’s mission, Seven on Seventh was most recently lauded at the Urban Land Institute’s 2024 Vision Awards ceremony where Seven on Seventh was recognized with the Community Impact Award.” – Fran Esposito, Chief Strategy Officer Amy (pictured below) came to Broward Partnership with her dog, Diamond, after being in a car accident. While recovering from surgery, she was unable to work or pay her bills. After several years of being homeless, Broward Partnership gave her the stability she needed to rebuild her life. Amy now works as a vet tech, and she and Diamond have since moved into one of Seven on Seventh’s apartments. “I am so very grateful to Broward Partnership for providing us with safe shelter, food and kindness,” said Amy. “I am nally on the road to good health and feeling paw-sitive about my future. We’re working hard and looking forward to having a home just for the two of us.”

The Sulzbacher Village for Women and Families (The Village) opened in 2018 as much more than a meal and bed, but a place to provide short-term and subsidized permanent housing within a continuum of care approach unique to each resident’s life circumstances. As a partner invested in family housing for more than a decade, The Jim Moran Foundation has supported Sulzbacher’s Rapid Re-Housing Program and The Village.
