The Jim Moran Foundation100 Jim Moran BoulevardDeereld Beach, Florida 33442(954) 429-2122www.jimmoranfoundation.orgMessage from the Chairman and PresidentI often reect on my husband, Jim, saying, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it.” Since he established The Jim Moran Foundation in 2000 to ensure his compassion and generosity would endure beyond his lifetime, preparing for the future has been woven into the fabric of who we are as an organization. In planning The Foundation’s next steps, we set our sights on new, expanded headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, adjacent to Holy Cross Hospital’s Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center. Our home will feature special archives from Jim’s decades of entrepreneurship and philanthropy — and will help us continue The Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community. While some of these programs are highlighted in this issue, we are fortunate to partner with many other nonprots that are changing lives every day. From oering a nurturing environment for women in recovery as they regain their independence to inspiring hope in children through poetry and art — and so much more — our communities are far better because of their incredible work.Cover photo: Jan Moran with Rashad, a student from Collier City, June 2004.

New home on the horizon3Construction of The Jim Moran Foundation’s future headquarters is ocially underway! Following a groundbreaking event in June 2023, Stiles began preparing and developing the site at 4545 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Designed by HASTINGS Architecture for hurricane resistance and LEED Gold certication, the innovative and resilient structure will help The Foundation to continue sharing Jim Moran’s remarkable life story and heart of giving back for generations to come. The new building will also house the South Florida Operations of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship (JMI), which provides free executive education to established entrepreneurs, small business owners and non-prot CEOs. We look forward to the completion of our new home in the spring of 2025.Architectural rendering of The Jim Moran Foundation’s future headquarters. Construction in progress as of October 2023.

Since 2010, The Jim Moran Foundation has partnered with Arc Broward to provide aging adults with socialization while also improving their independence through the Senior Day Program. Direct support professionals create a safe, engaging environment for clients to learn new skills and share common interests while their health is closely monitored by licensed practical nurses. Individual goals are established with the seniors and their families that align with their abilities to promote better overall well-being. Pedro and Miguel (pictured right), twin brothers, transitioned from living with their parents to one of Arc Broward’s group homes 20 years ago. Not only are they encouraged to contribute to the household and participate in activities, but they also attend the Senior Day Program and have the opportunity of being close to their sister, Patricia, who is vice president of Arc Broward’s Adult Services. When reecting on her experiences as a family member, she shared how important peer connections are to her brothers, as well as their relationship with the sta. “Even though I work there, I get to love them as their sister because of the support and services their team gives them. I am so grateful for this agency because of the relationships we have with one another.” 4Growing older togetherFor additional information about Arc Broward, please visit www.arcbroward.com.The Senior Day Program gives Pedro and Miguel a sense of responsibility and independence for their lives with each new friendship gained and life lesson learned.Serving with dignity and compassionThose who are struggling to make ends meet can nd help and hope at Our Father’s House. Based in Broward County, what started as a kitchen to serve those who were homeless has continued to expand its reach to individuals and families experiencing many dierent and challenging life circumstances. Katie Crissy (pictured left), board chair, and her husband, Jim, president, have a passion for serving their community. Our Father’s House provides visitors with dignity and a friendly welcome. A hot meal is oered to all who come, along with donated groceries, hygiene products, clothes and shoes. Parents are often given diapers and baby formula. For someone with no place to call home, showers and bus passes are available and, when possible, there are gas cards for those living in their cars or needing gas to get to work. Whether it is a safe place to enjoy a home-cooked meal, a pantry bag or warm shower, Our Father’s House is a refuge in our community. To learn more about Our Father’s House, please visit www.ofhsoupkitchen.org.

5Supporting mental wellnessDissatised with the resources available for their children with developmental dierences, a group of parents founded Pine Castle more than 70 years ago in Duval County. The property, covered in pine trees, would be a safe place where the expectation for their children would be to learn and grow in a “castle” where they were respected and nurtured to reach their greatest potential. In 1965, when students with special needs were welcomed by the school district for their education, Pine Castle transitioned to serving and empowering adults whose needs were still unmet. The Pathway to Community Employment Program provides pre-employment training and job Creating pathways for employmentopportunities to prepare participants for work with local business partners. Justin (pictured left with George, the manager of Al’s Pizza) is an alumnus of the Pathway to Community Employment Program. When asked about his career ambitions, he shared, “I can’t wait to get a job at a restaurant. I love to see the look on a customer’s face, knowing they’re enjoying something I made.” After gaining experience in Pine Castle’s Culinary Department and successfully completing an on-the-job training experience at Al’s Pizza, he achieved his goal. What’s next for Justin? He is looking forward to continuing to develop his employment experience and pursuing even greater independence. For additional information about Pine Castle, please visit www.pinecastle.org.Since 2005, Tomorrow’s Rainbow has fullled its vision to connect every child with joy through equine-assisted mental health services. Abby Mosher, founding CEO and executive director, created the organization after the sudden loss of her husband when she recognized the need for families to have better access to grief support. The miniature and full-sized horses who live at Tomorrow’s Rainbow mini ranch in Broward County help the organization carry out its mission to nurture emotional wellness for children, teens and families. With a grant from The Jim Moran Foundation, Tomorrow’s Rainbow continues to reach out to those coping with trauma through therapy provided by clinicians and counselors certied by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association. Children and teens who participate in this unique form of therapy spend time with the horses, building trust with their “four-legged facilitators” while processing their trauma and learning valuable coping skills to encourage emotional regulation. By sharing emotional experiences, interacting with counselors and horses on the mini ranch, and engaging in therapeutic play, children begin their journey toward healing. To learn more about Tomorrow’s Rainbow, please visit www.tomorrowsrainbow.org.

6Transforming lives of single parentsIn the Beaches communities of Duval County, BEAM’s Single Parent Program breaks the cycle of poverty to achieve long-term stability for families through wrap-around services. Participants receive coaching, food assistance, education and career support, and nancial literacy. They work one-on-one with a life coach to develop individual action plans with topics such as establishing healthy habits, creating budgets, obtaining a GED or graduating college, increasing credit scores, building emergency savings and more. As a single mother to four children, Yuly (pictured left) participated in the Single Parent Program to work toward self-suciency. Through interview coaching and nancial support to obtain Microsoft Oce training, she transitioned from the warehouse industry to a higher paying data entry role at a major bank. With ongoing case management, single parents can look forward to economic independence and more stable career paths. For more information about BEAM, please visit www.jaxbeam.org.Nourishing hope with prescriptive nutritionPatients often receive prescriptions for medicine, but what if they also received prescriptions for healthy food during the same visit? Feeding Northeast Florida (FNF) oers a holistic approach to strengthening individuals and families who struggle with health issues and food insecurity. The Prescriptive Nutrition Program works in tandem with FNF’s mobile markets to provide nutritious, high-quality food and nutrition education for patients at federally qualied health centers and charitable clinics. After meeting with a registered dietitian or nursing student, individualized food prescriptions are given to help improve their overall health. Patients then redeem their prescriptions for fresh produce and groceries at FNF’s on-site “food farmacies” or mobile pantry events in their neighborhoods. “In our relentless pursuit of innovative solutions to combat food insecurity and its far-reaching consequences, the Feeding Northeast Florida Prescriptive Nutrition Program addresses the critical intersection between healthcare and nutrition, aiming to transform the lives of those facing food insecurity For more information about Feeding Northeast Florida, please visit www.feedingnefl.org.while managing chronic health conditions,” explained Rachel McCandless, vice president of health and nutrition, Feeding Northeast Florida.

At SCI’s workshop in Palm Beach County, participants create, market and sell handmade products, such as personalized coee mugs, tumblers and ornaments, through the organization’s website and Etsy store. In addition to grants and community support, proceeds from the social enterprise fund SCI’s unique employment program so women can learn new skills, earn an income, focus on recovery and plan their futures alongside co-workers and supervisors who share similar life experiences. I’m not just a wife or a mother or an alcoholic; I’m so much more. Working at Second Chance after a ‘successful’ experience in treatment is helping me be a stronger person and helping to repair and stabilize our home.”Survivors thrive with second chancesFor more information about Second Chance Initiative and its online store, please visit www.her2ndchance.org.Established to improve birth outcomes and nurture healthy families in the community, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County (HMHB) empowers pregnant and parenting teens through its Caps & Cribs program by connecting them with mentors who are professional women and mothers themselves. Mentors meet regularly with their mentees, encouraging them to stay in school and plan for the future while oering guidance and support. Yaitza rst met her mentor, Shana, virtually during the pandemic when she was pregnant as a high school freshman. Though challenging to fully connect online, their bond strengthened as soon as they were able to meet in person. “I love Shana,” said Yaitza. “She’s the best mentor. Not only that, but she is a great friend who gives me advice — and when I need her, she’s there for me.” “It’s been a blessing to be in Yaitza’s life, to hear about her daughter and her family, to share her ups Strengthening families through mentoringFor more information about Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County, please visit www.hmhbpbc.org.and downs,” said Shana. “I respect Yaitza’s strength and resilience. Jim Moran Institute transitions to Jim Moran CollegeDuring a special signing event in October 2023 at the Jim Moran Building in downtown Tallahassee, the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship ocially joined Florida State University’s (FSU) Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship. With the transition to now permanently reside within the Jim Moran College, the Jim Moran Institute is well-prepared for the future.” The Jim Moran Institute cultivates, trains and inspires entrepreneurial leaders through world-class executive education, applied training, public recognition, and leading-edge research — and will continue to serve small business owners, nonprot organizations, and veterans and their families through program locations in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa Bay and South Florida. “The Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship is thrilled and honored to work with the extremely talented and hard-working sta of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship to help in sharing the legacy of Jim Moran to the community of entrepreneurs as well as to FSU students,” said Susan Fiorito, dean of the Jim Moran College.
