ABOUT THRIVEGulu is a trauma recovery organization Established in 2010 as a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization we support survivors of the atrocities of the 1986 2006 Lord s Resistance Army LRA insurgency refugees from South Sudan and survivors of gender based violence We support individuals of all ages and genders with priorities on the welfare of girls and women in our holistic interventions THRIVE s vision is for a Northern Uganda in which all people are treated with dignity live in safety and have the chance to contribute to the good of the community OUR PEOPLE THRIVE is proud to have women led operations in Gulu topped with our Director of 10 years Alal Single Dora A traumacounseling specialist she leads a team of thirty including professional counselors gender based violence literacy finance and empowerment specialists and administrative support staff all native Ugandans Half of our senior management is female Our international affiliate is headed by women also with our Executive Director Mah S r Keita in Mali and our Operations Development Director based in the US As a locally led organization our people come from the communities that we serve forging relationships that empower our beneficiaries to guide the programs we provide fulfilling our promise Nothing about Us without Us We believe that meaningful existence is more than mere survival We believe the invisible wounds of psychological trauma deserve healing And we believe that functionality and productivity can only flourish when an individual and her community are more than surviving TogetherWeThrive CONNECT www thrivegulu org info thrivegulu org Awareness session with women and girls Gender Based Violence Prevention Response at THRIVEGulu

Feedback session with key District leaderships THE PROBLEM In 2020 Northern Uganda experienced unprecedented numbers of police filings for Gender Based Violence GBV teenage pregnancies child marriages and suicides all directly related to COVID 19 and exposing a major gap in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support MHPSS services Survivors of violence against women girls VAW G struggle to access essential services like medical exams and filing police reports on account of misinformation fear of infection government restrictions on movement or being denied service challenges that also disproportionately affect girls women with disabilities female refugees and girls women who live in hard to reach rural communities Co occurring risk factors including financial insecurity school closures and food shortages amplify pre existing gender inequalities and generate new vulnerabilities for VAW G CONNECT THE PROGRAMS THRIVEGulu delivers 5 principal activities 1 Training key service providers health social law enforcement on best practices in referrals COVID 19 protocols and delivering survivor centered care 2 Training community Lay Counsellors GBV Monitors as frontline responders to VAW G 3 Establishing Village Savings Loans Associations to empower women and girls with economic self reliance 4 Mobilizing Zero Tolerance Village Alliance ZTVA Stakeholder Forums to rectify preexisting gender inequalities and promote women s human rights 5 Introducing Girl Shine programs to support adolescent girls with life skills building selfconfidence and preventing VAW G THRIVE helps Survivors become THRIVERS A girl survivor receiving individual counseling session with a professional counselor THE RESULTS Two years into our principal program to prevent and respond to GBV funded by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women we are seeing improvements in many areas based on our Baseline and Year Two surveys of program participants The rate of reported cases of VAW G has dropped from 64 to 49 The percentage of survivors who receive adequate care has increased from 49 to 82 The percentage of women who report having access to essential services has increased from just 35 to 89 The percentage of women who can afford 1 per day has doubled from 25 to 50 While obviously the problems haven t been solved fully feedback from the women and girls strongly indicates we are moving in the right direction Group members participate in the national event the International Women s Day celebration
