My Dad, Ken Buchmyer,started working at PenguinPools during Jr. High until heprogressed to foreman of hisown crew. After he leftPenguin Pools in the early1970's, he went to work full-time at Harley-Davidson as aplumber, but he alwaysdreamed of having his ownpool business. In 1981, Buchmyer’s EconomyPools was started as my Dadbegan doing pool work on theside while continuing to workfull-time at Harley-Davidson. In1984, when we opened ourcurrent location at 713 ArsenalRoad in York, my Mom, Susie,joined the business full-time. Istarted working at the ripe ageof twelve. My husband Chris, whom I metat Buchmyer’s in 1989, and Ihave completed oursuccession to ownership. Ilearned all I know aboutswimming pools from myfather and husband. We aretruly fortunate to have Chriscontinue taking care of ourloyal customers, passing on hiswealth of knowledge andrunning our infield operations.Our son Spencer startedworking for us at the age of 14and started full-time aftergraduating high school. Heloves the business and looksforward to becoming theowner someday. My daughter-in-law, Taylor is now ourbookkeeper and in training tobecome Spencer’s right hand“man”. Erin,our bonus child startedworking with us in 2018.As I rewrite this story, I amhumbled. From such modestbeginnings, I think about howvery blessed we’ve beenthroughout this journey.
