Page 4 Our New Loery! Focus on… Hazel Sheward First Edion 2024 We are delighted to welcome Hazel as our new Chief Finance Ocer. Before she joined us, in March, Hazel has experienced various other nancial roles including; care homes, NHS, security services and at an accountancy rm. Hazel is a keen runner and is looking forward to parcipang in the Three Forts 5km Challenge this year. (Have you registered yet? There’s sll me!) She has three acve boys and together they enjoy camping expedions and other outdoor acvies.
First Edion Ferring Focus Page 2 We are hugely grateful to ‘Partners in Wine’ of Goring, who held a fun ‘Call My Blu’ Wine Game Evening with a rae in aid of Ferring Country Centre, on 23rd February. The local community rallied round with wonderful gis for the rae which resulted in an amazing total. First Edion Ferring Focus secured, which will allow us to progress during 2024. Whilst we all look forward to beer weather, for the mebeing don’t forget your wellies! Hannah Tombs CEO The consistent theme to Winter 23/24 has been rain, and it seems that we sll may have a few more weeks of rain ahead of us as we begin to look towards the beginning of Spring. Across the Centre, it is safe to say, that we are all ready and waing for the transion to warmer, drier weather. The ongoing wet weather is proving challenging, many of our elds are saturated to the point they are quagmires, making accessibility dicult for some of our Day Service Customers. Addionally, we are keen to make preparaons in the allotment, but again the waterlogged state makes this almost impossible. Wellies and Waterproofs remain the order of the day for those doing outdoor acvies. We connue to update our site, our pond and duck enclosure improvements are due to be completed by mid-April, providing an accessible enclosure that is fully compliant with avian u restricons, allowing us when required to simply close the enclosure from the pond. Our fundraising for the addion of a studio, for tness, music and drama sessions, connues. We hope that we have funds Bra-vo! We were proud to be an ocial donaon point for clean, unwanted bras for V2 Radio’s ‘Bring us your bras’ appeal. We were amazed at how many people used the collecon bin, outside the Ranger’s Café, during the month of March and over a bin and a half was collected! The collecon of unloved bras will help to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research as well as supporng small businesses in developing countries. Page 3 Ferring Funders and Friends Thanks to Sompng Abbos for the amazing cheque for £1,048 that they raised through their Worthing Pier to Brighton Pier walk. Some of the children came to the Centre to see, rsthand, what a dierence the money will make. A Message from Hannah Sports News We would like to thank J.R. Barnes Property Services and Phil Cooper for donang wood to our wood workshop. Our Day Service Customers were able to use it to make bird boxes for the aviary on Dales Farm. Our boxes now have eggs in them! Ferring Rangers Football Team made us all incredibly proud at the recent Day Centre Football Fiesta. Ricky was the team captain and scored the rst goal of the day! Stacy scored her rst hat trick and Jason did an amaz-ing save as goalie. Every member of the team showed respect, posivity, skill and real team spirit. A massive well done! Go Rangers!
