First Edition Ferring Focus A Message from Hannah Welcome to the Spring Edition of the Ferring Focus Over the last few days we have begun to witness the change of season when the sun comes out there is some warmth beginning to sneak through and I have to say it is very welcome Often the weather improves quickly at this time of year so it is well worth thinking about adding sun cream to your bags for the days you are at the Centre and of course making sure you have the right clothes for the season We have had some exciting firsts over the past three months Ferring Rangers our Football team have played their first fixture It was brilliant to see the camaraderie between our players as they took to the pitch and to see so many supporters We have also had our first public photography exhibition at the Pier Road Gallery in Littlehampton For the whole of March our photography groups pictures were in pride of place on the feature wall of the gallery with many pictures being sold to the public We very much look forward to further fixtures and exhibits as the year progresses Wishing you and your families a very Happy Easter Hannah Tombs CEO Ferring Funders and Friends A short while ago we lost Ian Bant He had been part of the Ferring Country Centre family since the very beginning We are so moved and grateful that Ian s shed and lawnmower have been donated to the Centre for his friends and colleagues to use and remember him An amazing 545 56 was also donated in his memory Ian Bant He did it His way We shall remember Ian for his strong friendly personality and the way he saw jobs through to the very end He enjoyed painting especially Horti benches during winter maintenance but probably his favourite job was collecting and preparing empty compost bags for horse manure and wood chippings He was very organised and he would throw himself into jobs like sorting out the potting shed Tidiness was next to godliness for Ian he could not walk past a piece of paper or rubbish without picking it up and stuffing it into his pockets He loved working and found it very difficult to tear himself away from the task in hand he was often the last to down tools especially at home time Ian thank you for allowing us to be part of your life Page 2 First Edition Ferring Focus Sports News We are incredibly proud of our newly formed Football Team The Ferring Rangers who played their first friendly match against Worthing FC Inclusive The match took place on Sunday 26th February at Worthing Leisure Centre Lots of family colleagues volunteers and friends braved the cold to support the team on their very first match During the first half of the match the team didn t let their spirits be dampened as Worthing started scoring goals They shouted encouragement to each other and showed compassion and care if anyone fell or got bumped Then Shane scored the first ever goal for the Rangers to an explosion of cheers and applause They ended the first half of the match 6 2 to Worthing FC In the second half team members were changed around to give everyone the chance to play Mason swapped with Ricky in goal and Ricky scored an amazing goal from across the pitch And then the goals just kept on coming The match ended 8 6 to Worthing but The Rangers definitely won the second half Harry one of the players was asked how he felt after the match Powerful he replied with a great big smile on his face We are very grateful to our sponsors Chris Trott and Phil Cole from Coast and Country Real Estate who were really enthusiastic to support our players We were lucky that Mark Porter from RW Masters bodywork repair and restoration was also happy to sponsor the team allowing us to purchase the kit The kit is blue and orange to reflect the colours of Ferring Country Centre And how smart they all looked in it with their names and choice of number printed on the back Page 3

Ferring Focus First Edition Focus on Social Circle On Friday 28th April 2023 we are starting a new venture at Ferring Country Centre If you would like to meet new people and have a chat over a cup of tea and a biscuit whilst learning a new skill this might be for you The group is called Social Circle and will be taking place in Ranger s Caf on the last Friday of every other month A professional speaker has been booked to come and give a presentation at each gathering Various different topics will be covered so hopefully there will be something to interest everyone We are very grateful that Sue Holly Craft Plants will deliver the first talk It will be about different plants for your garden that are suitable for Summer into Autumn Sue will be giving tips on how to choose your plants and how to care for them She will be talking about plants that are suitable for the shade and sun There will also be a hanging basket demonstration So why don t you come along to what promises to be a relaxed informative group and meet like minded people Tickets can be bought from our online shop or found in our What s on section under Visitors on our website www ferringcountrycentre org Dates for your Diary Date Event Description Friday 28th April 2023 Social Circle Come and meet new people and learn new things over a cup of coffee and a biscuit Sat 13th and Sun 14th May Plant Bonanza Due to popular demand we are reviving our famous Plant Weekend All the summer favourites at affordable prices Page 4 Ferring Focus First Edition 2023 The Power behind the Picture At Ferring Country Centre the needs and interests of our Day Service Customers are at the heart of everything we do So about six months ago a weekly photography club was started by Emily Matthews and Jackie Taylor Miller for those expressing an interest The group captured images of their local surroundings that were powerful without the need for words The images were so perceptive that Jackie approached Mike and Lucy at the Pier Road Caf in Littlehampton and asked whether they would exhibit them They agreed and invited family and friends to a special exhibition evening to celebrate the photographs Many photographs have since been sold which has created an amazing confidence boost The money raised from the sales will purchase more equipment and software for the photography club Well done everyone Page 1
