As a Firefighter, you will work alongsidea staff of 96 men and women providing service from six fire stations strategicallylocated throughout the City of Appleton.At the City of Appleton, you not only are a part of an organization that makes alocal impact, but also a global impact as well. The City has built global partnershipswith our Sister Cities in Kanonji, Japan and Chinandega, Nicaragua. We are proudto share our knowledge and resources with these communities and their residents.Firefighters are responsible for performing fireoperations and prevention duties. Work involves firesuppression, rescue, emergency medical services,extrication, inspection, public education, training, andengine company and/or ladder truck duties. Specialoperations include the Hazardous Materials ResponseTeam, the Technical Rescue Team, Confined SpaceRescue, Swift Water Rescue, Technical Rope Rescueand Trench Rescue. On average, the fire departmentresponds to 7,000 calls annually. Candidates must be licensed,or have the ability to be licensed, as a Paramedic in the State of Wisconsin by theend of probation. SalaryThe starting annual salary for Firefighter/EMT is $64,000 plus an excellent fringebenefit package including: paid time off; health, dental and vision insurance; lifeinsurance; short-/long-term disability insurance; accident insurance; health andwellness programs; post-employment health plan; deferred compensation; andWisconsin Retirement System (WRS).
