Day SixOur historical path continues as we head tothe Mission Point Lighthouse for a tour. TheMission Point Lighthouse has been a TraverseCity and Old Mission Peninsula icon fordecades. It stands as a classic piece ofMichigan history. While it no longer guidesmariners through West Grand Traverse Bay asit did from September 10, 1870 until it wasdecommissioned in 1933, Mission PointLighthouse now offers visitors a peek intowhat life was like around the turn of thecentury for lighthouse keepers and for otherswho lived and worked in the area at the time. Our next walk through history is theDougherty House. This home was built in 1842 by ReverendPeter Dougherty, a Presbyterian minister, with the help of a Ojibwe village headed byChief Aghosa.
