A message from Hannah It s hard to believe that Autumn is just around the corner 2021 seems to be whizzing by Covid 19 remains a key focus for us all here at the Centre continuing to navigate our way through the challenge of keeping everyone as safe as possible Over the past few months we have welcomed most of our Day Service Customers back to onsite services and it is lovely for the site to once again be filled with chatter and laughter Hannah Tombs CEO I have been proud of the way in which all our Day Service Customers have adapted to the new Covid 19 secure way of life we have in place at Ferring and I would like to thank all those behind the scenes at home that have supported this I would also like to thank our brilliant staffing team who have all worked so hard to make service delivery successful The time is upon us to look to the future We are developing our Day Services with new and exciting activities being offered both onsite offsite and virtually Many of these successful activities started during lockdown but will now take place at the Centre We also see the launch of our woodwork workshop and the addition of a community outreach programme Thank you for joining us on the next part of our adventure as we adapt and change with the times Quiz Corner True or False 1 It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky 2 It is possible to lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs 3 A duck s quack doesn t echo 4 Cows have a memory of about three months 5 A female goat is called a ewe BEE A MAZE D Help the bee return home to the hive Answers can be found on the back page We are delighted that this year s Ferring Scarecrow Trail is donating all the proceeds to Ferring Country Centre Why not get involved and make a scarecrow www ferringcountrycentre org appeal ferring scarecrows

Ferring Funders and Friends Thank you so much to everybody that has sent us donations for our fantastic new goat enclosure Our current total is 780 The Castle expertly created by Simon from Groves Sculpture was installed earlier in the year and our 7 goats have enjoyed shelter climbing experiences and keeping a lookout over the rest of the farm ever since Worthing Literary Institute which is a charitable offshoot of Emmanuel Church Worthing has sent a very generous cheque for 1000 to go towards our classroom appeal Two of our day service customers attend their congregation and the church wanted to acknowledge the help they have witnessed by donating Thank you so much for helping us to continue to improve our facilities which in turn benefits all our day service customers Our thanks also goes to HASSRA social club who held an unwanted gift sale where staff donated unused gifts for others to buy and also a second hand book sale Additionally a colleague raised funds through a running event A grand total of 338 12 was raised which they have very kindly donated to Ferring Country Centre We would also like to thank Hill Barn Golf Club Seniors and the friends and family of Barry Bezants for their kind and generous donations Beach Clean On 28th July 2021 we took part in the Million Mile Beach Clean a challenge set up by The Surfers Against Sewage group It is a new campaign to reconnect communities with the environment after more than a year of isolation and reduced physical activity Our group joined the other 100 000 volunteers from around the country cleaning the places they love We managed to complete 3 miles of coast and forest Amongst other things we found a lot of glass bottles take away cups food wrappers plastic bags plastic string empty cans and even BBQ trays A map of our walk The clean up was so successful we are going to do it all again in September This time we are inviting anyone from the local community to join us Bring your own gloves or litter picker and help us keep Ferring and the surrounding area clean for everyone We will inform you about dates on social media nearer the time For more information email Raffaella starace ferringcountrycentre org

SEND Sessions We are conscious that open play sessions do not always suit every child s needs and so we are hiring out our Farm Themed Soft Play Area especially for toddlers with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities SEND Therefore your child under 107cm can explore and play without the stresses and over stimulation that open sessions can sometimes bring The private sessions are for an hour between 3 45pm 4 45pm on weekdays but we will always try and accommodate you at other times if we can Bubble Tube Farm Themed Soft Play Area Time in a sensory room can help children or adults with SEND to improve their visual auditory and tactile processing as well as fine and gross motor skills Did you know that Ferring Country Centre has a sensory room kitted out with light sound and textured equipment It will be available for private hire soon so please email us at offive ferringcountrycentre org if you have any further questions Visit our website www ferringcountrycentre org send soft play sessions for more information New Outreach Role During Covid times Zoom activities such as yoga Pictionary music exercises and social chat were really successful at linking people at home with friends and staff at Ferring Country Centre To continue these meaningful experiences we have appointed a new Outreach Co ordinator Jackie Taylor Miller who together with Raff our Education and Outreach Manager will be planning and creating fulfilling activities and experiences for both our Ferring Country Centre customers and the wider community to join in with and enjoy together Jackie Taylor Miller Outreach Co ordinator As life slowly opens up and gets back to normal these plans are going to include a Walk and Talk club and special dinner nights The walking club is aiming to happen on Mondays hopefully starting in September Depending on what the guidelines advise we will be welcoming members of the wider community to join us for leisurely strolls around the surrounding area Details will follow so please look out on social media for any updates about this Would you like to join us for Monday walks Bring the dog and make new friends Quiz Answers 1 True 2 True because a cow s knees cannot bend in a way to make it possible to walk back down 3 True no one knows why 4 False Cows have a memory of about three years 5 False a female goat is called a doe
