Foundation Footnotes Spring 2023 Lougheed Award The Foundation has presented the Clifford Louise Lougheed Award in recognition of outstanding contributions by an individual or organization in support of the Foundation and health care in our communities The 2022 recipients were Drs Ron Gorsche Keith Spackman Patient Entertainment Project Bringing new televisions to patients At the High River Hospital we care about patient experiences too We believe entertainment and communication are vital parts of the healing process When a patient must stay in hospital the TV can be a positive distraction Patients and families benefit from being able to distract their minds even if for a short time from what is typically a very stressful time With outdated and limited access to televisions in the hospital thanks to our many funding partners we are thrilled to fund 43 healthcare grade televisions for the enjoyment of acute care patients Wendy Kennelly Foundation Director explains how this all began Glenn Woolgar a Highwood Lions Member reached out last Spring after visiting a friend who was without any source of communication television service in their room He could tell his friend was feeling low and the days were long In such a positive way he said We can do better for patients so how can we help add a new TV to every room That was all we needed to begin building a plan with our hospital administration and suppliers Throughout this campaign we heard many stories of people who experienced hospital stays without TV services and how it impacted their experience The project is a long term commitment ten years in order to ensure no fee cable access and fill the gap between generations who prefer regular television services while they are in care Continued pg 2 Topic 1
