Reggie BoursiquotReggie was a university-trained artist when hecame to Boston in 2015 to be part of a paintingexhibition at the Haitian consulate office. Thatexhibition never happened, and the politicalsituation in Haiti made it too dangerous to returnhome. It was hard. He had left behind his family. He says, "I had to start over. It is so crazy how oneday you are a professionally recognized paintermaking a good living and suddenly everythingyou have worked for has no value. You have tostart from the bottom again." He reminisces about how much B1C helped him. "I came to B1C with little English. They helped me learn the language, they helped me train for jobs, they helped mewith a lot of other things. I am sincerely grateful." Now, Reggie is a featured artist in the Mayor’s Gallery Exhibit “African Americans andthe Arts.” There will be an opening ceremony Feb. 1st 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the StamfordGovernment Center. Please join us in supporting Reggie and other local Black artistson Feb. 1st!Photo above by Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photojournalist John Moore featured in B1C’s photo exhibition We Are Stamford: Immigrants in the City That Works.
