MOVE FORWARD 4:44 PM February 4, 2022 ג ‘פשת א רדא‘ב המורת תשרפ Mon, Feb 7 - Williston Parent Teacher conferences Wed, Feb 9 - Hamilton Parent Teacher conferences Mon, Feb 14 - 1G and Middle School conferences Tue, Feb 15 - STEM Fair Feb 17 –23 - Winter Break, no school Thurs, Feb 24 Classes resume Dear Parents, When describing the design of the Aron, the Torah states: בהז תועבט עברא תקציו׳וכו ויתומעפ עברא לע התתנו, you shall cast four golden rings and you shall place them on the four corners. Rashi, based on Targum Onkelos, translates the word ויתומעפ as ויתויוז, corners. The ארזע ןבא writes that he searched throughout Tanach and didn’t find any other occurrence where םעפ translates as corner. According to him, םעפ is defined as לגר, a foot, like the possuk in Shir Hashirim ךיימעפ ופי המ, how beautiful are your footsteps. The Aron was not merely a plain box, but rather was a box with four legs. The four rings that held the rods of the Aron were placed on these four legs. Rav Shmuel Walkin ztz”l wonders why, if the word ויתומעפ means footsteps, the Torah employs this term to refer to the legs of the Aron. He replies by noting that לגר can mean a stationary foot or a foot in motion. The word ךיימעפdefinitively connotes a foot in motion. The Torah is teaching us that when it comes to ׳ה תדובע one must be constantly moving upwards, never content to remain stationary. In a similar vein, the poles of the Aron were never allowed to be removed from the rings. This was unique, as the poles for the other vessels were only inserted when the vessels were being transported. The Meforshim explain that the permanent poles symbolize the idea that Torah is not stationary. Despite challenges, and in all situations, one must continue moving forward in Torah. ! תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs Weeks of planning and practice culminated on Wednesday, Rosh Chodesh Adar 1 in a spectacular performance by Grades 1-8 girls. “Shmittah Fair” was produced and directed by Mrs. Shira Sternfield (grade 4 Kodesh), in conjunction with our dedicated staff of moros. Grades 2-4 choir was directed by Mrs. Fontek (grade 2 Kodesh) and featured a Torah medley including a welcome to shmittah song, lyrics by Miss Chava Gittel Yudkovsky (grade 3 Kodesh). Thank you, Mrs. Nussbaum, as usual, for the musical accompaniment. Grade five girls presented “Saved by Shmittah”(based on a true story), directed and scripted by Miss Ostashinsky (grade 5 Kodesh). Mrs. Reifman’s grade 6 girls danced and sang their way through “Pach Shmittah”, explaining the halacha of discarding shmittah leftovers, peels and pits. “The Seven Year Cycle”, lyrics by Mrs. Chaya Esther (’07) (Ochs) Steinmetz, featured grades 7/8 girls, directed by Mrs. Michal Blumberg and Mrs. Leah Ochs. The lyrics worked their way through the halachos of trumos and maasros pertaining to each year. As the grand finale, the 7/8grade girls sang our shmittah theme song with lyrics especially composed for TA by Mrs. Sternfield’s niece, Miss Chaya Miriam Nochomovitz. In addition to this wonderful presentation of talent, each class prepared creative displays focusing on the different halochos of shmittah. It has certainly been a stimulating learning experience and allowed our girls to vicariously live through a shmittah year. Continued on page 2

The boys sang a song, each boy gave an explanation on the word “masechta.” Thank you to the Bostoner Rebbe and to Rabbi Ochs for their inspiring words. The program concluded with a fleishig seudah. All boys who achieved a certain average on the weekly and cumulative bechinos earned an extra prize and were awarded the title "Chosson Bereishis." At the siyum, there was a chidon with questions to review one last time and say goodbye to Sefer Bereishis, as the boys move on to Sefer Shemos and attempting to become a "Chosson Shemos.” K2 did hachnosas orchim to a special visitor for R week. They've been working on looking at both sides of an issue, both to frame their own arguments and to find the merits and weaknesses of the opposing side. They've explored staying on themes, but seeing how far one can drift in rebutting a point before they've changed topics, and as you can guess, they've been working on our debate skills. Boston Globe columnist Mr. Jeff Jacoby came to speak to middle school boys as part of their Wednesday’s elective series. He spoke about newspapers, opinion writing, some of his experiences and answered some pointed questions on his opinions on current events. PreK 1 enjoyed so many M related activities during M week. they enjoyed the story “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” made masks, looked at me in a mirror, mailed mail to mommy, and did marshmallow math among other things.
