SCIENCE SPOT The Heart of STEM Exploration As we transition into the shortest month of the year our hearts turn to Valentine s Day and celebrations with family friends and classroom parties I learned quickly that a great way to support my kids teachers was to bring science into their classrooms on party days This allowed me to leverage the fact that kids were already excited to have a break from routines so they often associated holidays with a visit from Idaho Science Mom Coloring carnations is a simple way to decorate owers and learn about capillary action at the same time Place brightly colored water in small cups for each ower stem Over time the water will travel up the stems creating a beautiful effect on the petals Kids can take these carnations home to family members at the end of the day Another fun experiment with color changing science introduces children to pH values in the kitchen Boil a red cabbage and strain the juice into a container Fair warning cooked cabbage does not smell good After the juice cools add it to clear cups and gather liquids Canyon Foot 1 4 Page Vertical including lemon juice vinegar seltzer water and antacids dissolved in water The pigments in the cabbage change colors when exposed to acids and bases You will see a rainbow from neon pink to Kelly green depending on the liquid samples Every day is a party when you explore the world with curious kids Amy Christopherson Director CSI Mini Cassia Center and Idaho Science Mom Clark Oral 1 4 Page Vertical We are passionately committed to improving the lives of our patients by combining clinical excellence with cutting edge technology In our office we love getting to know our patients and take a sincere interest in their well being Give us a call for your oral maxillofacial needs We have two locations to conveniently serve you Burley 208 831 2901 14 www southernidahokids com Twin Falls 208 831 2900
