Chair LetterScott PalermoA Skeetz ProductionPage 5ScottHello There,January certainly went by quick. Having helped with the Chamber Newsletter in the past, I was well awarethat one of my responsibilities as the Chair is to provide an article. I didn’t, however, understand howhard it was to develop an interesting topic every month. Note to future Chairpersons: Write and submitearly so Jaime doesn’t have a chance to include every upcoming event that you can talk about in herletter…My word for 2024 is REAL. Last Summer I started an exercise to rewrite the Value Statement for mycompany. I wasn’t planning on using an acronym, but the R and E came pretty quickly because I have usedthem in my company tagline for several years. The A was a natural fit and the L was inspired by adiscussion at our NC3 church youth group that we help lead. REAL worked very well and I liked how it could flow into “Keep it Real…” like I was signing a High Schoolyearbook in the 80s.This is not necessarily the views of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce but, these are thevalues that I am trying to live and work by so they, naturally, will be reflected of my contributions to theorganization.R- RELATIVE-Trying to balance time between Work, Family, Home, and everything else we have going is hard. It isimportant to be very intentional with time and resources. If something is not pertinent to an establishedour time and resources would be better spent on something that is.E- ENGAGING-In marketing, we want to find a way to draw attention or interest from others. In life, I have alwaysthought that if I was going to do something, it is better to do it in a fun, captivating or attractive way.A- AUTHENTICBe yourself! Always be true to your own personality, spirit and character. L- LIFTED UPThere is far too much divisiveness in our culture today and often there is great effort to strike each otherdown. This organization, our community and the World will be a much better place for all of us when wecan learn to sincerely (or authentically) lift each other up!Who can you lift up today? Call your mom or child or old friend you haven’t seen in a while. Give a goodreview or “like” to an associate or chamber member. Say a kind word to a clerk at the store or smile at astranger.I certainly don’t want to be preachy but it really doesn’t take very much to brighten someone’s day… andyou might be surprised that it makes you feel good as well!Keep it REAL
