Best Care Most Hope Western Ontario s population is growing and with it there is a growing need for health care Children s Health Foundation is committed to ensuring children and their families receive the best possible care and most possible hope when faced with life limiting or life threatening diagnoses Now is a crucial time to invest in infrastructure cutting edge equipment talented people and leading research programs But it all starts with you Join us in strengthening and transforming children s care today and for the next generation Where we are now Fostering excellence Children s Hospital is the third largest paediatric hospital in Canada and serves the vast geographic region of Western Ontario stretching from Windsor to London and Kitchener Waterloo and north of Thunder Bay With a growing population base of more than 2 3 million people including 400 000 children Children s Hospital treated about 57 000 children last year When a child s life is threatened our medical professionals have the expertise to offer world class care in more than 30 different medical specialties and sub specialties Children s Hospital has one of the busiest Neonatal Intensive Care Units NICUs in Canada it is home to one of just two Regional Epilepsy Surgery Centres of Excellence in Ontario and we are the only paediatric regional referral centre for mental health care for Southwestern Ontario Children s Hospital s expert care follows our kids throughout their lives while Children s Health Research Institute CHRI helps our kids benefit from research that protects their futures CHRI is the third largest hospital based child health research institute in Canada Taking a bench to bedside approach researchers focus on the causes cures long term effects and prevention of childhood health challenges aiming to provide tangible outcomes that result in enhancements to care therapy and children s overall health and well being CHRI is highly collaborative with clinician researchers scientists and associate scientists working hand in hand to combine their unique knowledge and perspectives for the most impactful outcomes Despite the excellence of both Children s Hospital and CHRI the unprecedented growth in our communities means change is urgent and necessary and that s where we need you

With 100 years of history Children s Hospital and Children s Health Research Institute together have celebrated many firsts bests and onlys in paediatric medicine Together more life changing advancements will be possible Where we are going Transformation happens together Children s Health Foundation is continually engaging with care teams and strategic partners like you to identify and refine emerging priorities The current goals to redefine and strengthen paediatric care include 1 Increase the capacity of our Emergency Department to meet the tremendous and growing need for services In 2022 our emergency department served 44 866 babies children and youth With additional beds we will provide faster more efficient emergency care and reduce wait times We will also work with community partners throughout the region to ensure coordinated care and follow up 2 Create a larger mental health space within Children s Hospital as well as a named chair in youth mental health This will help Children s provide better faster treatment to more children and have a dedicated direction and vision for kids mental health care 3 Create a new Oncology Inpatient and Outpatient Clinic to support care and clinical research With an enhanced space we will lead the way in paediatric cancer care under the direction of a new paediatric oncology chair 4 Transform the paediatric Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI program through a dedicated space staff and new cutting edge equipment including an MRI fluoroscopy suite x ray equipment and ultrasound technology This will help to reduce wait times enhance imaging and therefore diagnosing and create a more child friendly experience 5 Research through dedicated chairs and surgical fellowships to unlock new possibilities to give children the very best start in life These can be in leadership areas such as surgery midwifery urology orthopedics mental health oncology cardiology plastics and maternal fetal medicine
