Residential stays for families
We are an organisation committed to the highest standards in all aspects of the business. We are situated on the edge of the quiet coastal village of Appledore, the Centre is set within 22 acres of it's own grounds with the tidal waters and the Atlantic surf on the doorstep, we are in the perfect location for your next family adventure.
Our philosophy is simple, we want all our guests to have fun and adventure, to learn something new and enjoy themselves safely.
At Skern Lodge everyone has a real commitment to personal service. We try to ensure each guest receives individual attention in a relaxed, supportive and challenging environment.
Our family weekends are designed with a shared family experience in mind. Kids aged 6-17 and big kids of all ages love our accessible activities where you can try something new, where little ones can challenge their parents and everyone can have lots of fun!
You’ll also enjoy evening activities and down time in our communal family spaces where you can spend time together and mix with other families, or why not come away with your extended family?
Meals and accommodation are included in the price, taking the hassle out of organising your family adventure, so all you need to worry about is who is going to catch that first wave!

Who can attend a Family Adventure?
Our Family Adventures are designed for family participation so there needs to be a minimum of one adult and one child on each booking. The courses are open to children of all ages below 17 years old. The adult must have parental responsibility for the children and is responsible for supervising behaviour at all times even when under instruction by Skern tutors.
Are there any age limits on activities and do I need to be physically fit?
The maximum age limit to qualify for a child place is 17 years old. All children between 6 and 17 years of age can take part in every activity. There is no upper age limit for participation nor a particular fitness requirement but people need to feel comfortable taking part in the activities described in the itinerary.
What if I don't want to do an activity?
We encourage everyone to try each activity, but we strongly believe and work to the principle of Challenge by Choice. All we ask is that you come along to the activity, try on the equipment and make the choice once you are ready.
Will I be doing activities just with my family or with other people?
You will join other families to do the activities, we work on a ratio of 1 tutor to 8 clients. So depending on the size of your party, you may be with 1 to 4 other families. Where possible we will try and group children of a similar age.
Will a member of the Skern Lodge staff be available during our stay?
On arrival you will be greeted by your Course Director, they will be looking after you and providing your activity instruction during your stay and will ensure all aspects of your holiday run smoothly. We have a Duty Instructor on call during the night. The Duty Instructor is the same person throughout your stay and will be on hand to deal with any problems during the evening and overnight.
