General Information
Dear Residents,
This January, The Gemini Center turns 10- years old. In honor of this
milestone, I am excited to announce our anniversary celebration, HANG TEN, on
January 20, 2018. I hope that you will join me, along with Hang Ten committee
members Meghan Disbrow, Karen Leininger, Erin Matia, Mary Jo Simmerly,
Jen Dahler, Bridget Hinkel, and Danielle Danburg, and the recreation and city staff,
for island music, adult beverages, and food prepared by Gunselman’s Tavern and
Santo’s Restaurant. This tropical-themed event is sure to chase away the winter
blues! Further details can be found on our website, social media and in this book.
Our Recreation Department had a busy summer, hosting Star Wars and
Zootopia free movie nights, Touch a Truck, Summer Camp, and the popular
summer Yoga in the Park sessions. The fi rst Fairview Fleafest drew over 40
vendors along with many shoppers. Make sure to mark your calendars for the
next Flea on September 30, when a new mix of vendors and fi ve food trucks
make their appearance!
As summer activities wind to a close, we wish to thank our summer volunteer coaches and league
sponsors … your assistance is vital to our success. Member input concerning programming is important
to us; if you have thoughts you would like to share, please e-mail Program Coordinator Danielle Danburg
at danielle.danburg@fairviewpark.org, or Director Owens at Steven.Owens@fairviewpark.org. Updates
can be found on the Gemini Center website (www.fairviewparkrec.com), Facebook (@GeminiCenterFP;
@cityoffairviewpark) and Twitter (@Gemini_Center). Please sign up for our city newsletter at
www.fairviewpark.org to receive updated city news. Our staff looks forward to seeing you this fall!
Sincerely,
Mayor Eileen Ann Patton

Fire Department News…
As we head into the cooler months, the Fairview Park
Fire Department wants to remind you to “Avoid the Fall.”
Fall prevention is key to a happy and injury-free retirement!
1. Be aware of uneven surfaces.
Be aware of uneven surfaces indoors and outdoors. Use only
throw rugs that have rubber, non-skid backing. Always smooth out
wrinkles and folds in carpeting. Be aware of uneven sidewalks and
pavement outdoors. Ask a family member or friend to clear ice and
snow from outside stairs and walkways and always use hand rails if
available. Step carefully.
2. Take your time.
Get out of chairs slowly. Sit a moment before you get out of your bed.
Stand and get your balance before you walk. Be aware of your surroundings.
3. Keep stairs and walking areas clear.
Keep stairs and walking areas free of electrical cords, shoes, clothing,
books, magazines, and other treasures.
4. Exercise regularly.
Exercise regularly to build strength and improve your balance and
coordination. Ask your doctor about the best physical exercise for you.

Our Aquatic Therapy Programming is conducted in private 1:1 45 minute sessions. We provide 1:1
standardized assessments on land and in the pool, a parent or caretaker assessment, detailed list of
goals and a treatment plan based on the comprehensive evaluation of all assessments, followed by
daily documentation of progress.
A wide variety of aquatic equipment and therapeutic techniques are used to work with the natural dynamics of the water to
assist clients with the motor planning that is involved in increasing muscle and tone development, exercise, safety, rehabilita-
tion, swimming, strengthening, and overall recreation satisfaction.
Sample goals of this program are to increase muscle tone, strength, balance, coordination, range of motion, fl exibility, spatial
awareness, increase cardiovascular function, master a variety of swimming skills, safety in and around water, and decrease
anxiety, stress, and fear of water. All goals will be determined individually and specifi c treatment plans will be developed.
