About DiwanOur curriculum is designed to provide a structured, comprehensive, and rigorous understanding of Islamic sciences through four progressive stages: Al-Khulāṣah, Al-Wajīz, Al-Wasīṭ, and Al-Basīṭ. Each stage builds upon the previous one, ensuring a thorough and complete education. Each stage of our curriculum is meticulously craed to provide students with a robust foundation in the Islamic sciences.Stage One: Al-KhulāṣahAl-Khulāṣah serves as the foundation, summarizing the three essential pillars of the religion: Islām, Imān, and Iḥsān. This level emphasizes the fundamental sciences of Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), ‘Aqīdah (Creed), and Tazkiyah (Spiritual Purication), providing the basic knowledge every Muslim needs.Stage Two: Al-WajīzAl-Wajīz bridges the foundational sciences to the objective sciences by connecting our story from the inception of Ādam to the present day. This level incorporates the stories of the Prophets, the Sīrah (biography) of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, the lives of the Ṣaḥābah (companions), and the historical accounts of Islamic dynasties, states, and prominent Islamic gures.
About DiwanStage Three: Al-WasīṭAl-Wasīṭ focuses on the sciences of divine revelation, Tafsīr and Ḥadīth, along with their auxiliary sciences, ‘Ulūm Al-Qur’ān (the study of the Qur’ān) and Muṣṭalaḥ Al-Ḥadīth (the study of Ḥadīth terminology and classication). Having established a strong foundation and historical context in the previous levels, students are now prepared to delve deeply into these vast and intricate elds, exploring their meanings, interpretations, and applications.Stage Four: Al-BasīṭAl-Basīṭ oers an in-depth study of Fiqh with an introduction to Usul Al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence). This level covers every chapter of Fiqh in detail and applies Uṣūl Al-Fiqh principles to the Āyāt (verses) and Ḥadīth related to Aḥkām (rulings), equipping students for advanced scholarly work and practical implementation of Islamic jurisprudence.COPYRIGHT© 2024 BY DIWAN LLCALL RIGHTS RESERVED.NO PART OF THIS PUBLICATION MAY BE REPRODUCED, DISTRIBUTED, OR TRANSMIT-TED IN ANY FORM OR BY ANY MEANS, INCLUDING PHOTOCOPYING, RECORDING, OR OTHER ELECTRONIC OR MECHANICAL METHODS, WITHOUT THE PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE PUBLISHER, EXCEPT AS PERMITTED BY U.S. COPYRIGHT LAW.FOR PERMISSION REQUESTS, CONTACT: INFO@DIWANEDU.COM.

Introduction
02All praise is due to Allāh (), the most Merciful, the most Gra-cious. Master of the Day of Judgement. Him alone do we worship and Him alone do we seek assistance.May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muham-mad (), and upon his family, his companions, and those who follow his path.}8-9Allāh () says:(Indeed, the one who puries [their soul] will be successful. And those who corrupt it, will be doomed.){Ash-Shams: 8-9}What is Tazkiyah?Tazkiyah is all about taking care of our hearts. This is done in two steps:TakhliyaRemoving bad feelings like anger and jealousy.TahliyaFilling your heart with good things like kindness and love.
03Why is the Heart So Important?The heart is the most important part of our body. It’s like a special treasure chest inside you. To keep it shiny and clean, we need to take care of it, just like we take care of our bodies by eating healthy food and exercising.When our hearts are clean and strong, we make good choices and stay away from bad things.Just like doctors help us stay healthy, Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) taught us how to take care of our hearts so we can be happy and close to Allāh.Why is Tazkiyah Important?As Muslims, our most important job is to worship Allāh and earn His love so we can enter Jannah (paradise). To do this, we must keep our hearts pure by learning about the diseases of the heart and their cures.In the past, Tazkiyah was one of the most important sciences for believers. Learning how to purify our hearts makes us stronger and better Muslims.
04Benets of Studying Tazkiyah % A pure heart helps us submit to Allāh () and believe in Him fully. % People love being around those with good manners. % A clean heart leads to a better life in this world and the next. % A heart free of anger and jealousy feels light and happy. % Our faith grows when we worship Allāh () and seek knowledge. % A pure heart earns the pleasure of Allāh (), by having a Nafs that is Mutma'in.The Three Types of Nafs % Nafs al-Ammārah: The soul that follows its desires and does wrong things. % Nafs al-Lawwāmah: The soul that feels sorry aer making mistakes and asks for forgiveness. % Nafs al-Mutma'inah: The peaceful soul that obeys Allāh and stays away from sin.
05How to Purify Your HeartThese steps help us keep our hearts clean and strong. In this book, we will learn about ten harmful vices of the heart (Takhli-ya) and their cures (Tahliya). A vice is a bad quality in our character, like lying. A good quality is something positive, like honesty.Submit to Allāh completely, believing in His oneness.Stay away from from the diseases of the heart.Follow Allāh's Commands and stay away from Harām.Hold yourself accountable.Seek knowledge to make your faith stronger.Be around good friends.

Vice: 2Bad Conduct
16}4Allāh () said:(And you [Muhammad] are truly ‘a man’ of outstanding character){Al-Qalam: 4}The Prophet () said:(“Treat people the way you want to be treated.”){Tirmidhī}
171. Sabr (Patience) - Helps you stay calm, forgive others, and control your anger.2. ‘Ia (Chastity) - Stops you from saying or doing bad things and helps you develop Haya’ (modesty).3. Shaja’a (Bravery) - Gives you the courage to stand up for what’s right and have self-respect.4. ‘Adl (Justice) - Stops you from being unfair and helps you be balanced.Our actions show what’s inside our hearts. If we do good things, people see us as kind and respectful. If we do bad things, people see us as rude or mean. But sometimes, our actions don’t show who we truly are. For example, someone might want to help but doesn’t have enough money, or someone might pretend to be kind just to get attention.Four Things That Help Us Have Good Character:
181. Jahl (Ignorance) - Makes you think you are right even when you are wrong.2. Thulm (Oppression) - Leads you to treat others badly and make wrong choices.3. Shahwa (Desires) - Makes you greedy, stingy and only care about yourself.4. Ghadab (Anger) - Fills the heart with jealousy, arro-gance, and hatred.How to Have Good Character1. Know Your Weaknesses2. Vice: 10Arrogance and Pride
86}146Allāh () says:(I will turn away from My [Allāh ()] signs those who act unjustly with arrogance in the land){Al-’Arāf: 146}}25Allāh () says:(Indeed, Allāh () has given you [believers] victory on many battleelds, even at the Battle of Hunain when you took pride in your great numbers, but they proved of no advantage to you. The earth, despite its vastness, seemed to close in on you, then you turned back in retreat.){At-Tawbah: 25}
87The Prophet () said:(“None shall enter Paradise who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance.”){Muslim}The Prophet () said:(“If it weren’t for you sinning; I would’ve feared for you something worse than it [sinning]: Pride.”){Al-Bazzār}
88Islam teaches that arrogance and pride can have bad results. Even a little arrogance can stop someone from going to paradise. It makes it hard to learn and admit mistakes. Being humble is the answer and the true way to greatness.Arrogance (Kibr)Arrogance means thinking you are better than others. It can make people feel bad and can stop you from achieving great things. Even a little bit of arrogance can keep someone from being happy and successful.What Does Arrogance Look Like? % In your heart: You think you're better than everyone. % In actions: You walk or sit in a way that makes you look important. % In words: You talk a lot about how great you are. % In things you have: You show o your money, looks, or popu-larity.
89Why People Become ArrogantDue to ‘Ujb: ‘Ujb is when a person becomes very proud of them-selves. They feel amazed at their abilities and accomplishments. This makes them look down on others and become arrogant.Due to Hiqd and Hasad: Sometimes, people feel angry (Hiqd) or jealous (Hasad) of someone. They try to bring them down. This can make them arrogant and unkind.Due to Riyā’: Some people like to show o their good deeds so others will praise them. This makes them feel important and can lead to arrogance.These four diseases of the heart: ‘Ujb, Hiqd, Hasad, and Riyā’ make a person arrogant.We already talked about Hiqd, Hasad, and Riyā’. Now, let’s learn about ‘Ujb.‘Ujb is when a person feels too proud of themselves. All arrogance (Kibr) starts with ‘Ujb. It spreads like a disease. But if someone stops feeling ‘Ujb, they have a good chance of avoiding arrogance altogether.
90‘Ujb (Pride)‘Ujb happens when someone is too impressed with themselves. They think their success is only because of their own eorts and forget that Allāh gave them these blessings. This can slowly turn into arrogance, where they start looking down on others.What Makes Someone Feel Too Proud?People can feel prideful for two reasons:1. Talent: These are gis from Allāh that you didn’t work for, so you shouldn’t boast about them. Being proud because of your talent is the worst of the two. % Beauty or Height - You didn’t choose how you look. % Being Smart - Some people memorize faster, but that’s from Allāh. % Family Background - Being born into a rich or respected family isn’t your achievement.Instead of feeling proud, thank Allāh for these blessings. They can be taken away at any time.
912. Skills: These are things you learned or achieved, but they can still make you arrogant. % Wealth - Showing o your money makes others feel bad. Instead, share with those in need. % Knowledge - Thinking you’re smarter than others can lead to arrogance. Instead, use your knowledge wisely. % Status & Power - Feeling better than others because of your position can make you look down on people.Everything we achieve is from Allāh. Instead of boasting, be thankful and humble.
92How to Get Rid of ‘Ujb and Arrogance1. Learn More About Allah: The more we learn about Allāh’s power and blessings, and the consequences of our actions in the aerlife, the less likely we are to feel arrogant.2. Be Humble: An arrogant person thinks they’re the best but are actually worse o, while a humble person sees themselves as less but earns respect from others.3. Look at Those with Less: Instead of comparing yourself to people who have more than you in beauty, wealth, power, or status, look at those who have less. It will remind you to be grateful.4. Always Thank Allāh: Remember, all blessings are given to us by Allāh, and He can take them away at any time. This will keep you away from being arrogant.5. Respect Everyone: There are three types of respect: % Respect those older than you (teachers, parents, elders). % Respect your friends (even if they do better than you). % Respect those who have less than you (be kind to everyone).
93Activity1. What does ‘Ujb mean? Can you explain.2. What are two ways we can get rid of ‘Ujb and Kibr?
943. Fill in the blanks using the word bank given:a. Arrogance (Kibr) means thinking that you are than others.b. Even a little arrogance can stop someone from entering .c. Instead of boasting about our talents, we should always Allah for them.f. If we compare ourselves to those who have less than us, it helps us feel instead of arrogant.Paradise Important GratefulRiya’ Better Thank
