ABOUTEPILOGUE
THEMEThere is a force that both limits, liberates, and simultaneously connects all things. You can’t see it directly, but there are ways of experiencing it by observing its effects. Field Experience explores the ever-present yet invisible force of gravity that shapes the natural world, human perception, and artistic expression. Gravity is not merely a downward pull but a fundamental force that binds objects, influences movement, and draws all matter into connection. These works present a layered view of gravity as a force of attraction, linking all things with its unseen presence, and creating a shared experience that binds us—whether through objects that defy it, bodies that are subjected to it, or environments that adapt to its pull.EXHIBITNow in its fourth iteration, this Epilogue Exhibition features artwork created by students in their first-year with the Department of Art and Design. Referred to as the foundations year, majors and minors enter into the department with a variety of previous experience in art making and design. Over the course of the year, students are encouraged to experiment with physical processes and ideation methods that are unusual or are new for them. The emphasis over the course of the year is not on making perfect objects, but in developing critical, creative thinkers who will move into the major studio areas prepared to explore the depths of their interests. This exhibition is the capstone of a very transformative year.
