Page 24

Your needs are important People of your type shared some stories from their life When I was a child I avoided physical education classes as much as possible I was never able to climb a rope or to do gymnastic exercises on a crossbar I pretended that I felt bad when I had to participate At the same time I was always very engaged with learning new things and doing my own experiments to understand better how some things work together I participated in many academic competitions and always achieved good results and that turned into being one of the best students in the class Lina 28 Wisdom being a wise man Those are key words to generate my motivation to learn more to study harder But on the other hand it makes me more focused on detailed things and it s easy to neglect others feelings Because things can be measured but feelings are intangible Private space is very important to me If I am in a bad mood I would like to find some place to be alone for a while instead of fighting In my deep thoughts fighting presents poor personality I prefer a cold war when I have bad relationships with others not to try to recover it proactively Timothy 55 30

Page 25

I don t like to be in large groups of people surrounded by strangers or even acquaintances I quickly become tired of their conversations and emotions eventually feeling inwardly detached from them choosing instead to be around small groups or individuals with similar interests I tend to express my opinion only when I am asked as I find that people often over talk and gossip causing me to feel very tired My passive approach to communication often leads to self isolation so I sometimes force myself to talk to someone more for the sake of the process of communication itself and the sake of avoiding self isolation than out of sincere interest I reserve my sincere interest for a very select few My interest only extends to those who are very educated or who I admire so I sometimes communicate with others simply for the process of communication while not actually paying any attention to the content Charlotte 41 Once I encounter an argument I try to use my knowledge and opinion to manage other people s behavior I remember when last time I had an argument with my wife and at the end of conflict she shared that she would like to give me a nickname Judge because in her words every time we have different opinions I try my best to convince her to follow me I would agree with that somehow I am kind of enjoying acting this way Matthew 55 I have a wide variety of hobbies and activities I am interested in different topics so one of my favorite things to do is to read different literature to learn to create something I remember many times when I had difficulty creating a timetable for all the things I wanted to do and that always left me with a feeling of being angry with myself I notice often that if I don t manage to fit what I want into my day I get very angry with myself I try to be disciplined but many times it has not worked Through some training I learned that when I plan my days I often don t include things that most often come up but I am not able to control like time with my kids talking with my mother etc Now I always leave some spare time because I learned through my life experience how sometimes I have unreasonable expectations of myself Even if I am very good with planning life has many things that are not in my power so I have to be flexible without falling into self judgment Olivia 56

Page 26

Your needs are important Thoughts Encouraging Growth Every thought has the potential to take your life in a new direction The following messages were carefully selected for your Enneagram type Take some time to read each message and consider how you can incorporate them into your daily life Consider the difference between what you know and have learned and who you are without any of the knowledge you have gained Notice the separation of what you know and who you are without any personally gained knowledge Withdrawing from others means withdrawing from your own direct life experience Our external experiences do not cause us to feel our sense of independence independence and confidence arise when we are connected with ourselves and know who we truly are 40

Page 27

Notice how constantly living in a state of preparation could make you feel like you will never have a chance to experience life Generosity includes receiving as well as giving Practice giving and receiving help perhaps beginning with those you trust If you find it valuable you can expand this practice to a wider circle of people in your surroundings Practice being honest by openly sharing if you do not know the answer to something that you are asked You will come to the understanding that no one is expecting you to know everything and when you leave space for others to contribute on a topic you do not have knowledge about you can often learn something new Incorporate several more physical and less mentally engaged activities throughout your day that can keep you grounded such as cooking exercising cleaning gardening etc This will help you to experience less intensity of your thoughts and create a deeper connection with what you are surrounded by When we bring our mind and body in unison connecting thoughts feelings and actions we discover true wisdom we feel a sense of ourselves beyond externally gathered knowledge Notice how sometimes you become too identified with your observations of your experience rather than the experiences themselves By sharing more about ourselves our experiences struggles and joys we can create deep connections with others Through deeper connection we can experience ourselves better and learn more about humanity Our connection with others is a key element to our connection with our own hearts When we are connected with our heart we do not need to know what to say in the moment because through this connection we naturally know what is the right thing to say Practice treating yourself well with nice things such as buying yourself a wonderful new sheet set or booking a massage or nice restaurant At first you may find yourself to be very hesitant or resistant to this idea but remember that this action is just a symbolic expression of how much life has to offer when we open ourselves to see it

1 Take some time today to find a quiet calm spot where you feel comfortable and safe to close your eyes Once you are in that spot with your eyes closed bring all of your focus to your heart Try to feel and visualize how your heart is opening to your surroundings and feel your love touching those around you It can be very beneficial to imagine a lotus flower opening in the area where your heart is Think about five people you really care about visualize yourself hugging them and sharing your love Notice how important they are to you and how you want to thank each of them individually for being part of your life Stay in this feeling as long as you choose to and when you are ready to come back to the present open your eyes and reflect on your experience perhaps even writing down any experience that was new for you What would you like to bring from this experience into your daily life Write your notes here 46

Step 1 I accept that sometimes I can be very judgmental towards others incompetence I accept that sometimes I choose to abandon my heart in order to stay clear minded Sensitive to I accept that I tend to disvalue myself by maintaining the thought that I am not able to do things as well as others Spontaneous I accept that I do not put enough effort into connecting with others surroundings I accept that I steal from myself by avoiding experiences that could potentially cause pain Imaginative When I accept both sides of my personality my strengths gain even more power I accept that I do not allow myself to go after what I want and instead I talk myself out of it Compassionate I accept that I hide my true self behind the knowledge that I have I accept that I consciously disconnect from experiencing happiness and abundance in my life Comfortable expressing feelings Joyful Curious Lively Picture 1

Page 35

Accepting myself There is no greater gift that we can give ourselves than that of true acceptance of who we are seeing our whole self with an open heart This allows us a sense of curiosity and braveness to see our faults as well as our gifts without casting judgment on them simply able to observe ourselves as we are It is in these moments that we are able to feel the truth of our existence arising understanding that who we are now has a long history Through our lives we are touched by each of our experiences which forms the understanding we have of the world and shapes the unique expression we bring to the world Each of these qualities those that form the uniqueness we bring to the world was born with a purpose of supporting us during a specific period of our life however we often resist these qualities Perhaps this resistance is because we want to be different or because those in our surroundings don t approve of these qualities Whatever the reason we all respond to these unwanted qualities in the same way we abandon them ignoring them as though they are not a part of us until they become our shadows limiting us and preventing us from living the best life we are truly meant to live The first step on the journey of our own healing is to accept that there is nothing wrong with the qualities we have which we consider as negative they all have a purpose to serve As we move through different periods of our lives we require different qualities and these eventually form the bigger picture of who we are so our only task for now is to accept this variety of qualities without judgment 95

Within a year from today I will I commit to doing the following to create the quality life I deserve to live

Page 39

Identifying with your future self The knowledge of Enneagram is not about simply putting us into a box it is a valuable tool that can show us that we are living a limited version of ourselves and that we have the potential to be much more that there is a way out of that box The moment we accept what we learn about the qualities of our dominant type we gain the freedom to expand our qualities and to become whatever we want We will still hold the basis of our dominant type as this is our gift which supports our soul on this journey However as we appreciate ourselves as we are we are able to see which traits are limiting us and integrate more positive qualities to support us in realizing our dreams Take some time today to consider who you would like to become by the end of this year How would you like your life to look Which qualities would you like to have What goals would you have accomplished You might also consider your relationship health and finances etc Be as specific as you can and take your time in writing it all down If you aren t able to finish this exercise in one sitting simply return to it when you feel ready to explore your expanded future Once you have written all of your wishes take this piece of paper and put it somewhere visible where you will see it often Take 5 minutes every day to imagine how it will feel to live this life that you want to live The more time you take to imagine your future self the more information you are providing for your subconscious to direct your actions in your desired direction Sooner than you might expect you will notice that you are already acting with the traits you had on your wish list For example if you write on your list that you would like to be an engaging person when you are with others you will notice that you begin to experience more frequent possibilities for you to express this quality If on your list you had a specific workplace noted you will find yourself guided to more direct actions toward realizing this In our lives we always have the choice to either be directed by unconscious actions or to be proactive in learning about ourselves and building the life that we truly want to live This leads us to realize that there is much more to Enneagram than simply being one of the types it can guide us to be more and to live honestly through each new moment that unfolds for us 109
