2020 21 Artistic Collaborators Kelly Ali bass A native New Yorker Richmond Symphony bassist Kelly Ali was raised in the Bronx and later Queens Village He was a member of the first graduating class of The Juilliard School s music advancement program and bookended his New York tutelage in the studio of James VanDemark earning a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music Mr Ali has participated in music festivals throughout the United States and Europe and earned a Master of Music from the University of Maryland as a student of Curtis Burris His orchestral experience also extends to ensembles such as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra National Philharmonic Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Williamsburg Symphonia Along with orchestral performances and his post as Adjunct Professor of Bass at Virginia Commonwealth University Mr Ali has also dedicated performance time to chamber music with colleagues such as the Ying Quartet members of the Guarneri Quartet and the Chamber Music Society of Charlottesville Mary Boodell flute As Principal Flutist of the Richmond Symphony Mary Boodell has won acclaim not only for her orchestral playing but also for her numerous chamber music performances Equally at home in baroque and contemporary music Ms Boodell has performed at festivals across the US and Europe including at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl Eastern Music Festival Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto Italy and regularly at the Staunton Music Festival in Staunton VA Before coming to the Richmond Symphony Ms Boodell played Principal Flute with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago Since 2004 she has played baroque and modern flutes with the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia She is also a longtime member of the Richmond Chamber Players performing seasonally on their August Interlude series Born in Chicago Ms Boodell received her Bachelor of Music at the Oberlin Conservatory and her Master of Music at Northwestern University A devoted teacher she maintains a private studio coaches young symphony players and performs regularly with the RSO Woodwind Quintet in Richmond area public schools Brandon Carter actor Brandon Carter is an American actor originally from Heathsville Virginia A Penn State and Longwood University graduate Carter has played in roles from Shakespeare to Morisseau working in major regional Off Broadway and international theatres Mr Carter is a proud member of the Actor s Equity Association and is currently a Resident Company Member at The American Shakespeare Center in Staunton Virginia Jonathan Colbert bass Born in Atlanta GA Jonathan Colbert comes from a family of musicians He attended Interlochen arts camp as the Emerson Scholar for the state of Georgia Jonathan is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School He has performed held positions with the Atlanta Symphony Kansas City Symphony Hartford Symphony Malm Symphony Orchestra Gothenburg Symphony and The Royal Danish Orchestra Jonathan is an award winner in numerous competitions including the International Society of Bassists orchestral competition and the BassEurope orchestral competition Jonathan has been a member of the Verbier Festival since 2005 His teachers include the late Ralph Jones Timothy Cobb Leigh Mesh and Al Lazslo

Suliman Tekalli violin Violinist Suliman Tekalli has established his unique voice as an exciting and versatile musician As the prize winners in the Seoul International Music Competition and the Sendai Lipizer and Szeryng International Violin Competition he has performed as a soloist with orchestras throughout the U S Canada Mexico South America Europe and Asia in numerous halls including the Seoul Arts Center Kumho Art Hall Wigmore Hall and the Millennial Hall at the Kennedy Center His performances have been broadcasted on live TV and radio from KBS TV in Korea Montreal Canada s CBC Radio 3 and NPR An active chamber musician Mr Tekalli has performed at numerous festivals including Music Menlo Yellow Barn and the Banff Centre He has collaborated with eminent musicians such as Gil Shaham ChoLiang Lin Donald Weilerstein Paul Watkins Wu Han and David Shifrin He has also led as concertmaster for various chamber orchestras such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra New York Classical Players Sphinx Virtuosi and the International Sejong Soloists He also concertizes as part of the Tekalli Duo with his sibling pianist Jamila Tekalli John Marcel Williams guitar Award winning artist John Marcel Williams is establishing a reputation as both a virtuoso concert artist and devoted teacher By age 16 he had garnered over 20 prizes at competitions such as fist prize at the Boston Guitar Festival youth competition Rosario Guitar Festival Classical Minds Guitar Festival and 2nd prize at the international Guitar Foundation of America young artist competition In addition he was awarded first prize at the James Stroud competition and won the Pittsburgh Concert Society Audition Williams unique musicality and refined technique can be seen in his performances He is frequently invited to play and teach at venues across the United States as well as internationally including the Panama Guitar Festival Oberlin College Moravian College and the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society he was a guest artist for the 2019 20 season John Marcel has made numerous media appearances on various radio and TV programs most notably performing on NPR s program From the Top Most recently in 2019 John debuted with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro John Devlin performing Elmer Bernstein s Guitar Concerto James Wilson cello For more than thirty years James Wilson has nurtured and enjoyed an exciting and varied career as performer and educator bringing the joy of music to audiences in small towns and internationally As recitalist and chamber musician he has appeared in many of the world s most illustrious performing spaces including America s Lincoln Center Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center Suntory Hall in Tokyo the Sydney Opera House the Basilica of Notre Dame in Montreal the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Musikverein in Vienna The multi faceted Mr Wilson is a Member of the acclaimed Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and regularly serves as guest principal cellist of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra A lover of period performance practice Mr Wilson is in demand as a player of Baroque cello performing throughout North America and Europe He currently teaches cello and chamber music at Columbia University in New York and at Sarah Lawrence College But chamber music forms the core of Mr Wilson s work and in 2004 he founded the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia and remains the groups Artistic Director
