AUGUST 2020 GRANTEE PARTNER NEWS UPDATES We celebrate the work and progress of our grantee partners in addressing social determinants of health and eliminating health inequities across our region despite the challenges COVID 19 and the economic crisis have presented We welcome you to read about some of our grantee partners work and accomplishments this month and are grateful to each of our grantee partners for their steadfast commitment to serving the health and wellness needs of our region COVID 19 ACCESS COMMUNITY HEALTH NETWORK COALITION FOR SPIRITUAL PUBLIC LEADERSHIP collaborated with the COVID Equity Response Collaborative Loyola to launch free COVID 19 testing and pediatric service sites in Maywood and Melrose Park which have been the most impacted by COVID 19 in Proviso Township and several of our grantee partners are a part of the City of Chicago s Racial Equity Rapid Response Team which has played a critical role in lifting up testing needs of Black and Latinx communities A recent analysis of COVID 19 testing locations showed several cities across the US are not reaching these communities but Chicago has made testing accessible in hard hit communities due in part to the Team s efforts ALIVIO MEDICAL CENTER S ESPERANZA HEALTH CENTERS Community Health Workers who are a part of the CHW pilot funded by Healthy Communities Foundation and Community Memorial Foundation have recently shifted to virtual outreach to educate community members about COVID 19 and their services Alivio is also opening a new satellite clinic in our region that will be co located with planned mixed income housing in LeClaire Courts presented with UnidosUS and County Health Rankings Roadmaps on Responding to Crisis in the Latino Population with an Equity Lens The webinar centered on how COVID 19 intersects with various issues that affect communities of color including the Latinx community and strategies to approach successful testing and prevention LATINOS PROGRESANDO presented to a group of 40 foundations about the impact of COVID 19 on the health and stability of nonprofits They talked about the racial inequities between nonprofits and philanthropy and the challenges faced by leaders of color in this moment ERIE FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS and other community health centers across the region have increased efforts to assure patients of their safety protocols and encourage regular checkups and vaccinations RACIAL EQUITY EL VALOR ERIE NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE GADS HILL CENTER RACISM IS A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS and other local organizations are a part of the Early Childhood Education CEO Roundtable and recently co wrote an op ed about the importance of investing in early childhood development and education to address racial equity in Chicago Thirty six of Chicago s largest hospitals and clinics including several of our grantee partners came together to declare racism as a public health crisis Deep rooted racial disparities in access to food housing and other social determinants of health have led to the disproportionate impact of COVID 19 in Black and Latinx communities in Chicago and surrounding suburbs AUGUST 2020 GRANTEE PARTNER NEWS UPDATES
