04 Contained Love Beginning the artwork for Contained Love was a way for me to work through some of the heavy trauma my mind was experiencing I started the piece at the Detroit Institute of Arts about a month later in November There was a public artist demonstration that my partner Karianne was exhibiting with encaustic paintings I brought an aged cutting board that I had used for the past 8 years and felt it was time to utilize it I found magazine clippings that were offered at the art demonstration and brought several pieces of wood from nature walks

10 Four Layers of Sky Winter Thaw Having visual art as an outlet during the pandemic was something that really helped me and continues to help me get through these uncertain times This art has manifested itself in a variety of mediums that I enjoy working with including but not limited to photography collage and digital works Collage is especially therapeutic for me as it is something I can physically create with hands and takes me out of my head for that brief while It is unique in the sense that you are taking something someone else created and giving a new life to it More specifically the piece 2020 Vision was about the uncertainty of knowing what s to come and how the quarantine pushed me to be outside more and re connect with nature I have always felt the constant struggle of living in an industrialized world and wanting to be more in tune with nature

14 Reminders Face This piece began as a soothing and therapeutic exploration in the interaction of colors within my watercolor paints I noticed the dried lines of paint naturally formed shapes that reminded me of faces and profiles I outlined those shapes with dark grey ink liking the contrast of the harsher dark ink with the pastel watercolors

19 Daily Structures During my time in self quarantine for the COVID 19 crisis I began turning my focus to work that I had previously shot but never brought to fruition Around 2010 while living in Oregon and traveling frequently through the western states I was shooting paper negatives with my 4x5 view camera also known as Calotypes or Talbotypes for William Henry Fox Talbot who invented this early photographic process in 1841 Calotype comes from the Greek kalos beautiful and tupos impression After shooting and developing the paper negatives I scan them and begin manipulating them in Photoshop for final output as digital pigment Inkjet prints During the last two months I began adding color and shape inspired by artists of various mediums I admire see mood board and reacting to the emotions of an unprecedented situation experiencing a global pandemic www christopherbennett net
