ELEPHANT SKIN Underlayment Installation Guideline Use under asphalt shingles tile or metal roofs Dimensions ELEPHANT SKIN is available in rolls that are 48 inches wide and 250 feet long Preparation The deck surface must be dry and free of dust dirt loose nails debris and other protrusions Damaged sheathing must be replaced Installation ELEPHANT SKIN must be installed on a well ventilated roof with a pitch of 4 12 or greater ELEPHANT SKIN is laid horizontally parallel to the eave of the roof with the printed side up Overlaps run with the natural flow of water in a shingling manner minimum 3 inch horizontal laps and minimum 6 inch vertical laps For well ventilated roofs with slopes of at least 2 12 but less than 4 12 double the layers of ELEPHANT SKIN increasing the side laps to 24 inches and shingling the side laps is recommended ELEPHANT SKIN is not recommended for roofs with less than a 2 12 slope Use a straight blade utility knife or scissors to cut Fasten as outlined below Fastening ELEPHANT SKIN is attached to the roof deck with a 4d 8d corrosion resistant steel or stainless steel ring shank fasteners having 1 inch diameter corrosion resistant metal round cap plastic round cap corrosion resistant minimum EG or hot dipped galv roofing nails Use of corrosive resistant 3 8 head x 1 smooth leg roofing nails is acceptable only if primary roofing will be installed within 24 hours of ELEPHANT SKIN installation Place fasteners a minimum of 6 12 O C or as needed at all seams to securely hold in place WE COVER AMERICA 1 800 749 3358 warriorroofing com
