2017 2018 CABINET POSITIONS VACANT Have you ever really wanted to try something new As a Lion you can learn all sorts of things and I am asking you to put your hand up if you have the time and inclination to try one of these positions You might not have been approached yet but you may have the talent to perform in one of these roles Magazine Editor using the Publisher program you have an opportunity to showcase our clubs and District achievements and coming events A small team can be engaged to assist The District Newsletter is published the first week of each month and dispatched to the Cabinet Secretary to be sent out electronically and by snail mail Public Relations this is also a great way to showcase our district Working with the DG team and GLT GMT coordinators you will prepare press releases and organise advertising on Facebook Twitter and in the print media Youth of the Year sadly our very efficient YOTY chair is retiring from this position however she is available to mentor and assist A supportive team is also in place Children of Courage Coordinator this position is required for a six month period commencing September and culminating on the first Sunday in April The current CoC chair is unable to continue Our 2017 event was cancelled due to a number of factors and we would not like to see this happen again in 2018 Cabinet Treasurer if you like the idea of balancing the books this position is for you Software is provided by the District and there is an extensive history to call on The position does not require an accountant and the requirements are relatively straightforward These are important positions on our Cabinet To be successful you should have a passion for Lions be willing to learn be computer literate have a vehicle and be able to drive at night and lastly you need to have a vision for the portfolio Being on Cabinet is enjoyable We are reinstating the Saturday night cabinet dinner to bring more fellowship into Cabinet Looking forward to hearing from you Sue Lowe District Governor Elect 201W1 9652 2212 0404 288 511 Email suz lowe bigpond net au 2ND VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR VACANCY 2017 2018 To All Lions members of District 201W1 Dear Lion As you are aware we had no nominations for the position of 2nd Vice District Governor 2017 18 at the Convention held at Kalgoorlie last October Qualification requirements are as follows The Lion must be an Active Member of Good Standing of a Chartered Lions Club in W1 The Lion must have served in the following positions prior to taking office as 2nd VDG a An officer of a Lions Club for a full term or major portion officer means President Secretary Treasurer VicePresident s Membership and Elected Directors and b Have served as a member of the District Cabinet for a full term or major portion thereof c These terms must not have been served concurrently Any suitably qualified Lion is encouraged to consider standing for the position of 2nd Vice District Governor Should any Lion wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact DG Michael 1st VDG Sue or IPDG Colin 2

Jurien Bay Lions Support Black Dog Ride Early on Sunday 19 March the local Lions were up early to support some very special visitors to town A large group of motorcyclists had arrived at Apex Camp Jurien Bay Since 2010 Black Dog Ride s 1 Dayer has brought together Black Dog Riders for an enjoyable and meaningful day of riding uniting like minded people for a vital mission raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention Eight people a day take their lives and Black Dog Riders uniting together under one banner with one voice aims to amplify a national message of mental health awareness to prevent this tragic loss of life to suicide Lions have supported the group over the past years and have donated funds whenever the group visits Jurien Bay Apex Camp Jurien Bay was also able to help with the fundraising by waiving the fee for the use of the Langham Proud hall Lions continue to support many health related projects which in turn support their local community LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL THE NEXT 100 YEARS Moving in to our second century of Service we have released our Lions Global Service Framework for the 21st Century 5

VICTORIA PARK LIONS CLUB This Clever young lady Esther Nixon from Ursula Frayne College visited our Club the other night She has been chosen from all State Finalists to represent WA at the National Finals of the UN Youth Australia Voice Finals in Hobart Above PDG Barry Middleton presents Esther with a cheque for 500 LIONS WA CENTENNIAL EVENT The Lions of Western Australia are all invited to help celebrate one hundred years of Lions Clubs service to the world You are invited to attend the Centennial Celebration event on the 10th of June at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth City On arrival at 7 00pm you can enjoy a welcome drink upstairs in the foyer at the entry to the Riverview Ballroom Socialise with friends before the evenings festivities get under way We will all move into the Ballroom at 7 30 pm to start the evening of celebration There will be special guests and acknowledgements during the evening A door prize will also be offered and as well you can try your luck at the raffle which will run on the night All attendees will enjoy a Buffet dinner and dessert and there will be music of the South Perth Lions Big Band Tickets are only 80 per person drink on arrival The buffet dinner and entertainment for the evening available during the evening The venue can only hold 300 guests so tickets dancing along to the and include a welcome There will be a cash bar make sure you get your In addition we are negotiating with Pan Pacific for a special room deal if you would like to stay over after the show Details soon Regards from The Event committee IPDG Colin Heap colin_heap bigpond com Join us to celebrate 100 years of service in communities all around the world 7

AUSTRALIA LIONSONOZ IN ACTION Lionsonoz members seem to find the most unusual places to follow the Lions Motto We Serve In February this year Lion Sandra Phlippzig the welfare officer for the Australian Lionsonoz found herself in Salamander Place in Hobart Tasmania while the weekly markets were in progress The Hobart City Leukaemia Foundation was conducting a fund raiser for research into Leukaemia They were looking for people to pay to donate their hair as a money raiser in conjunction with the World s Greatest Shave campaign Guess what Lion Sandra on the spur of the moment took up the challenge for such a worthy cause and paid 20 to have her beautiful locks shaved off to help support the research into a cure for Leukaemia Her husband Lion Peter said he is very proud of Sandra It takes a big heart to take such an extreme step to both draw attention to the cause and to raise funds for such a worthy event and to top it off she now has a most distinctive haircut Over 170 000 has been raised in Tasmania for this cause Kate McGough the State Fundraising Organiser of the Foundation said their aim is to raise 345 000 by the end of the year so Lion Sandra s donation of her money and her hair will help to fund research into this insidious disease Lionsonoz does not have an activity account so money cannot be raised from the public for any cause but this was Lion Sandra s way of helping the best way she could DG Lion Warren Whit Phone 02 67623801 email wandbwhite gmail com Above Lion Sandra Phlippzig sporting her new haircut after generously donating her locks to help the Lions Club of Hobart City raise money to help fund research into Leukaemia CENTENARY TIN JURIEN BAY LIONS CLUB MARKETS YOU HAVE A ONE TIME ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO PREORDER YOUR CLUB S CENTENARY TINS YOU CAN DO THIS BY VISITING THE LION S CAKE MINT DISPLAY AT THE HOBART CONVENTION IN MAY 2017 ORDERS WILL NOT BE TAKEN BEFORE CONVENTION AND IF YOU MISS OUT PRE ORDERING YOU WILL THEN HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 1st JULY 2017 TO PUT IN YOUR ORDER THE CARTON WILL HOLD 6 TINS AT A COST TO THE CLUB OF 98 27 16 38 EACH RRP IS 22 00 10

BALLAJURA LIONS CLUB Harmony Day 26th MARCH 2017 The Ballajura Lions work with the City of Swan to organise Harmony Day an annual event This is a fun filled event of international foods stage entertainment and various fun activities We had over 3500 attending during the day Ballajura Lions had an informational stand but because it was so windy we could not put much information out on or around the table Our Gazebo also blew away Jill Middlemas was our MC for the day and there was a variety of entertainment including perfomances by the South Ballajura Primary School AKWAABA African Drumming Group Perth Singing Academy ATI Martial Arts Demonstration Ballajura Community College and the Chinese Lion Dancers Pak Mei Yaolin Chinese Lions The Ellenbrook Lions train was there and they were kept L to R Ballajura Lions Simone Kaye Karen busy all day We also had a visit from the Lions Hearing Bus Ellenbrook Lions with their ever popular train Morley Leos assisted with parking on the day Some of the crowd enjoying the stage events NORTH BEACH DONGARA DENNISON WHITFORDS KALGOORLIE Lions Hearing bus set up at Hyde Park for screening March Sorting of second hand books for Easter 1 Book stall Cooking meals for homeless people at Manna in Victoria Par 1000 donation to bring swimming instructor to Kalgoorlie 12
