Black Americans are one of the U S s biggest consumers but we only spend a mere 3 percent of our 600 billion on BlackOwned businesses This must change which is why founder and owner Edward McFields launched NoirePack with 32 percent of African Americans in the United States drinking gourmet coffee beverages during the past day Why not create businesses that revolve around this popular commodity NOIREPACK INC These trials have demonstrated how vulnerable and economically marginalized Black communities can be when presented with these kinds of events Fortunately there is hope One way to combat some of these social conditions and injustices placed upon our communities is through economics but most importantly cooperative economics or Ujamaa building individual Black businesses and communities Ujamaa is the only way Black communities across America can combat systematic racism and help close the economic wealth gap that exists today between Black Americans and other ethnic groups Whether gourmet or nongourmet traditional coffee is the most popular option among Americans for their past day consumption Coffee is a multibillion dollar industry projected to grow annually by 8 7 despite the current Pandemic The largest market segment triggering this growth is gourmet coffee roasting NoirePack Inc s primary niche Coffee has generated millions of jobs in the U S with thousands of roasters Sadly Black coffee roasters only represent a small margin of this highly coveted and competitive coffee market however at NoirePack we have several Black Owned coffee roasters and brands working to shift the discourse surrounding this popular beverage Each of our Black Owned roasters is unique with a story worth sharing and we are here to evangelize it

Launched in 2018 Caribbrew is the brainchild of Beverly Malbranche Growing up in Haiti and knowing that Haitian coffee used to be well renowned in the 1960s and inspired by her uncle a coffee connoisseur she decided to embark on a journey to revive Haiti s coffee industry Caribbrew partners with more than 1000 coffee and cocoa farmers in Haiti to create economic opportunities The company hires young people in the capital of Haiti to package and export the coffee to the U S shipping facility in New Jersey where they employ local residents The female founder Beverly is proud to offer job opportunities to N J women and their shipping facility is currently 75 female employed In line with their mission Caribbrew also supports a local N J non profit that aims to educate disadvantaged Black boys in Newark It s more than coffee it s economic empowerment

BLACK ACRES ROASTERY Black Acres Roastery is an artisan coffee roaster located in the Station North district of Baltimore Every roast they strive to bring out the best qualities in unique coffees from around the world They ethically source beans and curate roasting profiles that provide each cup of coffee a story Their relationships from producers to customers make us who we are They believe that making time to engage with one another in meaningful ways is crucial for building relationships and growing communities They aim to provide an opportunity for all to have access to great tasting coffee

PORTRAIT COFFEE Portrait s Coffee team are residents of Southwest Atlanta who are deeply invested in seeing the Historic West End continue to flourish They a diverse team with unique experiences in business operations marketing communications design and community development Portrait Coffee s goal is to empower and equip Atlanta natives and residents with genuine career and life opportunities in the world of coffee It was stories like this that got Portrait Coffee into coffee What was once merely a drink of necessity turned into an ode to our ancestors After learning the history and seeing the current realities every cup of coffee made and consumed felt like an invitation to drink purpose meaning fulfillment Their name comes from a desire to change the picture that comes to mind when folks think of specialty coffee Coffee as a product was first discovered by Africans In discovering coffee they had no clue this drink would become the most consumed beverage other than water globally On the flip side they also had no clue that their faces would be forgotten even though the pigment of the drink mirrored their own September 2019 Issue 06
