WELCOME TO What will we learn this year? First Quarter - Unit 1: Digital Citizenship & Literacy - Unit 2: Digital Media Second Quarter - Unit 3: Photography & Image Manipulation - Unit 4: Desktop Publishing & Layout Design Third Quarter - Unit 4 (cont'd): Layout Design & Typography - Unit 5: Audio Principles Fourth Quarter - Unit 6: Video Principles - Final Unit: Culmination Project Digital Design and Media Production will allow students to demonstrate creative thinking, develop innovative strategies and use communication tools in order to work effectively with others as well as independently. Students will learn digital citizenship by researching current laws and regulations and by practicing integrity and respect. Students will demonstrate a thorough understanding of digital design principles that is transferable to other disciplines. The six strands include creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; research and information fluency; critical thinking; problem solving and decision making; digital citizenship; and technology operations and concepts. This class is a prerequisite to get into Audio/Video Production, Graphic Design, Yearbook and Newspaper classes. By the end of the school year, students should have familiarity with a variety of digital tools and be able to create freely and expressively on their own in the pathway of their choosing. 127.  Classroom Rules 1) Arrive on time and open relevant applications. 2) Work during all work times. 3) Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. 4) Stay in your seat unless you have permission to leave it. 5) Food and drinks are not allowed in the lab. 6) Know and follow all school rules per the student handbook. Guidelines for Success 1) I will be respectful of myself, my peers, my teacher, our materials and technology. 2) I will take responsibility for all assignment deadlines. 3) I will learn to set and achieve goals for myself both academically and personally. 4) I will be accountable to others in this class. 5) I will apply myself wholeheartedly and will push myself toward greater success. Articulated Credit Freshmen and sophomores in this class will be given the opportunity to earn 3 hours of credit at ACC for ARTC 1313 Digital Publishing. To earn this credit, you must (1) earn an 80% in this class for your yearlong average and (2) pass the ACC final exam with a 70% or higher. Late Work Policy Late work will be accepted. For each class day after the due date, there will be a 10 point deduction. No work will be accepted after 5 class days. Grading Policy Weekly Unit Assignments (approx. 2/unit) 40% Unit Assessments (1 project & 1 test/unit) 50% Professionalism/Digital Citizenship* (1/quarter) 10% = Total per quarter (9 weeks) 100% *Career and Technical Education classes prepare you for your future career, whatever it may be. Learning professional skills and healthy digital citizenship is an important outcome of this class. This will be a cumulative grade for each quarter and will start at a 100. You may lose points for disruptive technology use, personal device infractions or being off task. Alternatively, you may gain points back for classroom participation and collaboration. Test & Retest Policy If you make below a 75 on a test (or major individual/ group project) and desire to retake it, you must attend a FIT or tutorial session with the teacher. You will have an opportunity to make up to 75 on the retake. Plagiarism Your work should be your own original work. You will not receive full credit (or any credit at all, in instances of definitive cheating) for notes, definitions, essays, worksheets, etc., that have been taken in part or in whole from the Internet or from a classmate. AI may only be used when explicitly stated. Otherwise, it will be considered plagiarism and will be treated as such. Technology Computers and other technology will be used on a daily basis. All available technology is expensive and should be treated as if it were your own personal property. Do not eat or drink next to the computers in the lab. Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all times. Ensure your keyboard/mouse charging cord is returned to your computer stand at the end of every class day. If you choose not to respect the technology, you may lose technology privileges at any time. Cell phones are not allowed during instructional times. Keep your phone on silent and stored in your backpack at all times. You cannot take your phone out of your backpack during class for any reason. This also includes personal devices like laptops, tablets, smart watches and wireless headphones connected to a device other than the lab computers. Devices are also not allowed in the hallways during instructional times and can be confiscated and given to the office at any time. Online games are not to be played during lecture, work time or presentations. Warnings will be given; multiple infractions could result in loss of Internet privileges.  These supplies are not required but could be useful for our class: - Headphones/earbuds - 3.5 mm jack preferred - Writing utensil(s) - Paper/notebook
