2024 has been a landmark year for Demena Jersey as we were instrumental in launching the island’s rst Demena Strategy in June and we created our own bespoke oce and facilies at Halke Place, aer years of searching. We’ve now got a regular seat at the table with Government working collaboravely on the implementaon of the new strategy. We’re proud to say that we’ve taken forward work in a number of the strategy’s priority areas in 2024 including:Raising awareness We launched a prevenon campaign called Boost your Brain which saw us turn Broad Street into ‘Memory lane’ complete with artwork which encouraged healthy behaviours linked to proven risk factors. Diagnosing well We worked in partnership with the Memory Assessment Service (MAS) to redesign their ‘About your MAS appointment’ leaet given by GPs to paents at the point of referral. This now includes informaon on what happens aer a diagnosis and gives an overview of Demena Jersey’s services.Supporng people with demena and their familiesWe have introduced free training for up to 120 family carers a year and a ‘carer’s pack’, lled with helpful resources.Supporng Jersey to become a demena friendly islandWe launched our Demena Friendly Business Scheme, working with local organisaons including Hospice and JT to train sta and improve the customer experience for people with demena.We believe in a future where mely diagnosis is the norm; where there is a clear and supporve care pathway; where sgma is eradicated and where every person touched by demena feels valued and understood. Through collaboraon, educaon and innovave services, we connue to aim to empower individuals and their families, enabling them to navigate the challenges of demena with dignity and strength. We couldn’t do this without our wonderful sta and trustees, our amazing volunteers and generous supporters. Together, we are truly making a dierence to the lives of those aected by demena and are taking important steps towards a more demena-friendly Jersey. Welcome from our CEO Claudine Snape,CEO - Demena Jersey3

52024 compared to 2023 Overall we had 4,597 more aendances than last year. This is largely due to the expansion of our programme with the introducon of several new activities and groups in 2024. “The whole family all feel the services and support oered by Dementia Jersey are fantastic and life dealing with this all-round stressful disease would be very much worse and less bearable without that support.”Advice and Support678 more aendances than last year120010008006004002000Appointments with Dementia AdvisorsCounselling Carer’s Support EventsClub UnoNew for 2024Meeting Place ProjectAwareness and Training1,848 more attendances than last year300025001000500250100Activities and Events1,935 more attendances than last year20001600120080040002023 20242023 20242023 2024Community eventsArts ExploraonMusical Memories Fun ‘n’ GamesCoee & ConnectNew for 2024 S Club Gardening ClubSplashchatWalk ‘n’ TalkPétanqueDementia FriendsSessionsAwareness TalksTraining for Family Carers (DIP)New for 20242,595466755250992707858861,1961,7331,0771,0151,0278846715352891,1968661,16497259239616325812019316267047630990

Advice and supportWe made sure that people with demena and those who care for them got the advice and support they needed to improve their quality of life.Trained 90 family carers about how to care for someone with dementia.Launched a ‘Carer’s Pack’ lled with helpful new resources like ‘Aid to Locate’, ‘This is Me’ and others. We worked in partnership with the Memory Assessment Service to redesign their ‘About your MAS appointment’ leaet given by GPs to paents at the point of referral, to include what happens aer a diagnosis and give an overview of Demena Jersey’s services.Added a further two groups to the Meeng Place Project, which now supports ve groups of 10 people with a recent diagnosis with a mixture of weekly cognive therapy, group work and movement. Oered condenal support from Demena Advisers to over 500 people. Our advisers helped families navigate life-changing diagnoses and connected them to services that promoted their physical, mental and emoonal well-being.Oered 707 places across the year at carer support groups in dierent parts of the island. Introduced a new summer programme of outdoor acvies at the allotment including outdoor art and Tai Chi. Expanded our volunteer-led therapeuc acvies for people with demena by launching quarterly tea dances and introducing S Club – a mixture of seated boxing, line dancing and eastern inspired movement. Current popular acvies include art, music, swimming, Pétanque, coee mornings and puzzles/games. Welcomed new volunteers to support the expansion of our programme. In 2024 we:6“Vivien can give you a long list of what she loves about the acvies she aends; the company, laughter, chang, games, music, sta, silliness, support, encouragement and mind boost.”

7“I feel that when I leave the island, Demena Jersey will ensure that mum and dad don’t drop o the radar. Their services are indispensable. The dierence in mum’s mood is so signicant. She has more of a social life than the rest of us! The knowledge, care and support oered is exceponal.”

8Influence professional practice We used our experse to inuence professional pracce in order to improve island-wide services. In 2024 we:Co-authored the rst Jersey Demena Strategy with Government which launched in June 2024. The strategy makes 5 key recommendaons which tackle the challenges negavely aecng the quality of life of islanders with demena. Connued to grow the Lived Experience Advisory Network (LEAN), (formally Panel) which is a group of up to 40 people with demena and carers who comment on issues relang to their experiences on a monthly basis and reported back to them which of their recommendaons we have taken forward. Worked with a range of partners and working groups for example the Older People’s Living Forum and the Jersey CEO Network to inuence work to improve professional services, training and policies aecng people with demena and those who care for them. We joined a programme sponsored by Lloyd’s Bank Foundaon which builds condence, develops knowledge and shares good pracce in engaging people with lived experience in charity work.“The strategy has been developed through true partnership working between representaves of the Government of Jersey and Demena Jersey and draws strongly on the voices of islanders, parcularly those with lived experiences of demena, whilst drawing on local and global evidence. Deputy Tom Binet, Minister for Health and Social Services

How we have listened to people’s lived experiencesLEAN has now been up and running since October 2021 and over this me many of our clients have joined in discussions on a wide range of subjects that have been important to them.We have noted what has been discussed and published reports on our website making them available for anyone to read. Demena Jersey has aconed many of LEAN’s recommendaons and shared these with other organisaons as appropriate. The following are just some of LEAN’s recommendations that we have actioned:We have extended our Demena Advice and Counselling services and the range of carer support groups so more people can aend meengs at mes to suit them.We now have more Meeting Place Project sessions, enabling more people to aend and benet from these very popular groups. We now oer training for family carers. We are currently developing training for professional carers. We now provide more community-based informaon sessions for the public to help people understand more about demena thus helping to reduce sgma. We have added to the range of acvies we oer for people with dementia for example by adding Pétanque, seated boxing and line dancing. We have launched a brain health campaign to let the public know how they can reduce their risk of geng demena.Our Demena Friendly Business scheme is now well established, making more businesses more accessible for people with demena.9“I’ve really appreciated the opportunity to share my experiences in the hope that it may lead to some posive changes for other people in the same boat.”

Page 10

10Educating islanders to understand more about dementia and remove the stigma Many islanders are not aware of the approaches which are fundamental to making people with demena feel understood and supported. In 2024 we:Launched a Boost Your Brain campaign to educate people about how to reduce their risk of demena. We used hoarding in broad street to adverse our key messages and promote a Big Brain Challenge across the island. Connued with our popular free Demena Friends programme and trained over 300 people.Delivered school assemblies to over 2,000 school children and demena awareness talks to over 500 people. Launched the Demena Friendly Businesses Scheme, which oers cercaon to organisaons who provide services to people who may have demena, by compleng the pilot with Hospice and going on to cerfy JT. “up to 45% of cases of demena can be prevented or delayed”

Page 11

Our frontline teams from engineering, retail, our contact centre and HR have deepened their understanding of demena through the Demena Jersey workshop. They’ve learned to recognise the signs and respond thoughully to those living with the condion. We’re always incredibly proud of our people’s interest and willingness to make themselves more aware, all of which benets not only our customers but also their loved ones and the wider community. Each parcipant has truly earned their Demena Jersey badge and we’d really encourage other workplaces to help make Jersey a more demena-friendly place’’.11A dementia friendly business is a business that is aware of the needs and challenges of people living with demena and adjusts its products, services, and environment to accommodate them.A demena friendly business can benet from:• increased customer loyalty• improved reputaon• enhanced sta morale.Becoming a demena friendly business is straighorward, though it may require some adjustments over me to some parts of how a business runs itself. We help any organisaon that wishes to become more demena friendly by guiding them through a process that will improve their services for people with demena and their carers. 12Making it happen To help achieve our ambion of a demena friendly island in 2024 we:Moved into new premises near the library with bespoke counselling rooms, demena friendly features and enough room for our expanding team. Launched a new website with a wealth of new helpful informaon, an online shop and the ability to book appointments. Grew sta numbers to expand services to meet demand. In 2024 we welcomed new facilitators to support the expansion of the Meeng Place Project. Reduced our environmental impact by recycling our oce furniture and using some recycled furniture in our new premises. Improved our governance by introducing a sustainability plan, a business connuity plan and organisaonal risk register.Invested in technology by:Partnering with Codena to connue our use of Donorfy (our CRM) meaning we have a beer understanding of our impact and ability to keep in touch with supporters. From the guides to the porters and everyone in between – we really couldn’t have done it without them! The whole experience, whilst challenging at mes, was made easier by the wonderful group of people I met and I truly feel that I’ve made friends for life”.
