Community Fundraising PackAbout Demena JerseyHere is an overview of who we are and what we do, and what your fundraising eorts will support. We’re a local charity commied to supporng people with demena and the family and friends caring for them. There are around 1,600 people living with demena in Jersey, and with an ageing populaon, this number is expected to double within a generaon. Our overall aim is to work together with others to create an island where those aected by demena are supported, accepted and able to live well without sgma. How we helpAdvice and Support We make sure that people with demena and those who care for them get the advice and support they need to improve their quality of life. We oer condenal support from demena advisers and a programme of popular therapeuc acvies open to people with demena and their carers. These range from music and art therapy to swimming, walking, Pétanque, games and coee mornings. Improving island wide services We use our experse to inuence professional pracce in order to improve island-wide services. We’ve co-authored the Demena Strategy for Jersey with the Government of Jersey and are working in partnership to deliver the implementaon plan to tackle the known challenges negavely aecng the quality of life of islanders with demena. Educang islanders We work with community groups from around the island to understand more about demena and remove the sgma. We oer free 1 hour informaon sessions on demena called ‘Demena Friends’ and have a new cercaon programme for businesses to become demena friendly. We also plan to pioneer a new approach to risk reducon through working with partners to create a long running campaign focused on ‘Brain Health.’In 2023 we had over 8,500 aendances at our groups and acvies, more than ever before. 3

5Community Fundraising PackBefore you get startedHere are a few things you should consider before you start planning your epic fundraising! The EventDecide what you want to do and think about who you know and what they would be interested in - a pub quiz, cake bake, sports compeon or dinner party? The LocaonWhere are you planning on holding your excing fundraising event? Could you host it at home or at work, or at a hotel or parish hall? Have a think about where other fundraising events have happened. The DateWhen do you plan to host your event? What dates will be best for the highest aendance - will you have your event at the weekend or during the week, in term me or school holidays? Make sure you consider other events and diary dates such as bank holidays or annual events that may clash with yours, and give yourself plenty of me to plan and prepare. The FundraisingHow are you going to raise the most money? Community Fundraising Pack6The ideasHere are some simple fundraising ideas to get you started. We’ve split them into catergoies but some of the ‘at the oce’ ideas can work amongst friends and family too!Fundraising in the communityBBQFire up the grill for a charity BBQ day with friends and neighbours. One to save for the warmer weather. Big night inChoose a theme, invite a handful of friends or family and ask them to make a small donaon on the night. It’s cheaper than an evening eang out and the money goes to a great cause. BingoWho will be the rst to check o all their numbers at a bingo night? Birthday GivingAsk your loved ones to donate instead of buying you gis. This can also be done for Christmas or instead of wedding presents. Car BootSell any unwanted items you have lying around at a car boot or on Facebook buy and sell pages. Ask friends, family and colleagues to donate some things too! Cocktail NightMix up your favourite drinks with a charity cocktail evening. Football Match / 5-a-side FootballPung on a charity football game is a great way to get friends and family together for a good cause. Or if you have a lot of people interested, you could turn it into a tournament. You could charge player fees or charge spectators - or both!

7Community Fundraising PackOdd JobsCould you help your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours with some of those odd jobs around the home? Helping pick up the shopping, walking the dogs, doing some DIY or cleaning windows, in return for a donaon. Loose ChangeAsk friends/family/collegues to dig into their wallets and purses and pop their loose change into a jar. It’ll feel like a small donaon for each person, but added together it will make a real dierence.Poker NightDo you know some poker fans? Host a game night and all money won can go towards your fundraising.Quiz NightHold a quiz at your local pub, parish hall or your friends garden and charge individuals and teams for entry. Don’t just invite people you know, open it out to the public if you want a bigger event. If it’s at a pub, ask the manager to donate a free meal or vouchers as a prize for the winners.Scavenger HuntEach person or team is given a list of items to nd in a certain area, with clues to help them, and the ones who nd the most or in the quickest me are crowned the winners.Tea PartyYou can do a tea party anywhere you fancy – at home, round a friends or in the park. Pick your venue, choose a date and invite your guests! Charge an entry fee or ask for donaons for any tea and biscuits your guests have. Why not choose a theme and get people to dress up.Yoga ClassKnow yoga or someone who does? Charge a fee for those to parcipate.

Community Fundraising Pack8Fundraising in the oceBake SaleWho doesn’t love cake? Make like Mary Berry and bake your way to fundraising success. Do it at work, school or your home, and ask friends and family to do one on your behalf at their workplace. Cut the CaeinePeople love their morning coee, and all coee lovers spend a lot each month on their caeine x. Ask people to forego their daily coee, even just once, and donate the money they would have spent to your fundraising pot. Email SignatureInclude a message about your fundraising target in your email signature, with a link to the donaon page. Recipe BookIf many of the people in your oce seem to enjoy cooking, ask colleagues to contribute recipes that you can collate into a printed charity cookbook. You could even sell an e-book version to reduce prinng costs. People will love seeing their family name in print, and you might nd a new dish that becomes your family favourite.Swear JarKeep it tradional and charge a ne for all bad language used in the oce, or get people to pay up for using management speak. Anyone caught encouraging colleagues to ‘think outside the box’ or ‘get all their ducks in a row’ owes you a charity donaon.Dress Down DayHold a dress down day at your work place, or your children’s school. Simply ask for a donaon to take part, and make sure you have the appropriate permissions!Cycle to workOne for your health and the environment. Encourage friends and family to do it as well. The money you all save on parking and petrol can go towards your fundraising eorts. If you work 9-5 in town and drive into work every day, chances are you’re spending £36 a week on parking. That will soon add up!Matched GivingWhether you’re raising money in the oce or outside of work, ask your employer about matched giving. Lots of our fundraisers have doubled the amount raised by their employer. Don’t forget to ask if they are interested in having Demena Jersey as their Charity of the Year too! Dry January (or any month!)The perfect way to get healthy and all for a good cause. As well as geng sponsorship for giving up the booze, you can save up the money you would have spent down the pub and add this to your fundraising eorts. Top Tip - Get your friends and family involved in the challenge. This will help to raise even more money and reduce the likelihood of you cheang!

Page 9

Make your money go furtherDid you know some employers oer matched giving? Speak to your manager or HR department to see if they oer this. You could double your fundraising eorts!Lump Sum Donaon SchemeIf you’re a resident and tax-payer of Jersey, you can use the States of Jersey lump sum donaon scheme which gives us an extra 25% on donaons over £50. This means that if you donate £100, we would receive an extra £25 on top. This is an easy way to maximise donaons if you are a Jersey resident. You can nd the form on our website.Quesons?
