Deer Lake is home to manyrecreational opportunitiesand facilities. Our HumberRiver trail system will takeyou for a stroll around DeerLake with beautiful sceneryof the Humber at each stop.The trail system, fullyequipped with rest stops andwashroom facilities, will carryyou all the way from the DeerLake Airport, past the VikingTrail, right along the DeerLake Beach.
Deer Lake Beach is a stunning 2 km stretch ofsandy, freshwater shoreline located in the heartof the town. Beautifully maintained by the Townof Deer Lake, the beach is regularly groomedusing specialized equipment to keep it pristine.Our “Joe Butt’s Lookout” is now fully wheelchairand stroller accessible, thanks to the recentinstallation of “Water’s Edge” mobi mats.During the summer, the beach offers a variety ofamenities including washroom facilities, footrinsing stations, toy library, beach volleyballcourts, and ideal swimming areas for families toenjoy on warm days.For a more leisurely experience, The BeachRestaurant overlooks the lake and providesseasonal alfresco dining, refreshing drinks, anda licensed patio perfect for relaxing with a view.4o
A perfect spot for a beautiful hike with family, friendsor serenely solo. You’ll find a mix of trees includingplenty of birch and other decidious trees that makefor a colourful show in the fall. The highlight of thetrail is Spillway Falls and the walk features benchesand rest stops for photo ops along the way.Click the arrow for a map of our trail system!Where multiple methods of transportation converge!ATVs, snowmobile, bicycles, walkers and runnersalike enjoy this incredible trail system within ourcommunity. A variety of options await you in Deer Lake. You areinvited to explore two of Deer Lake’s most populartrails. Stroll along the magnificent sandy beach atthe North end of Deer Lake and enjoy the breathtaking views along the Deer Lake Beach Trail. The Town of Deer Lake is incredibly proud of thistrail and its connections. The trail is the outcome of a Generally consideredan easy route this trail takes on average from 1-1.5hours to complete, though that depends on you!This is a lovely, well-groomed flat out and back trailthat features beautiful, river views and plenty offlora and fauna. You’ll find folks biking,walking/running and during winter, this trail is agreat spot for a snowshoe or cross country skiing. The trail makes it’s way near or through both ofDeer Lake’s RV Parks .Trailheads are located directly across the streetfrom Gateway to the North RV Park, at the DeerLake Airport and at the Deer Lake Beach.The trail features washrooms, rest stops andinterpretive signage along the way. The portion of the trail just off the 410 Highway isalso lit during the evening and nighttime hours.The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visitanytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Deer Lake is home to 2 RVparks! Deer Lake RV Park takesadvantage our sandy shorelinesand is situated on the mouth ofthe Humber River in the middleof town. Gateway to the North RV Park iscentrally located where theViking Trail meets the TCH, andhas great access to theNewfoundland Insectarium. Just outside town on route to theDeer Lake Regional Airport, you willalso find the Humber River Golfcourse. This is a 9-hole gem that offersgolfers of all levels a memorableexperience amidst a tranquil andlush, rural landscape.
Not far from the Deer Lake beach youwill find Schwartz Park. This parkincludes a soccer field, baseball field,playground, dog park, and a skate park.Just off of Nicholsville Bridge you willalso find a small boat launch. Deer Lake is also ATV friendly withdesignated routes and multi purposetrails for quadding and snowmobile funall year around!Throughout thecommunity you willfind a tennis court,as well as threeother fullyequippedplaygrounds withinwalking distance ofresidential areas.
Spirit is also high in Deer Lake with seasonalfestivals such as the annual StrawberryFestival in July and Winterfest in February.The award-winning “Deer Lake Live” eventsencompass community essence and bringresidents in the community together tocelebrate Deer Lake throughout the year. The Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex isnestled in the center of Deer Lake on CrescentStreet, making it just a brief walk or commuteaway from local schools, businesses, andresidential areas. The complex houses an indoor ice-skating rink,aquatics facilities, and a bowling alley. Soon, it will be an exciting season for Deer Lakeas the brand new Annex adjoining the Hodder isset to open to the public!The Annex boasts a large indoor gymnasium withsoaring ceilings and two regulation basketballcourts, well appointed locker room facilities, awalking track, conference space and is the hometo Gracia Gymnastics Club.
The arena has one regulation size ice surface (85 X 185) and seats over1000 people!Deer Lake has a large minor hockey association as well a figure skatingclub. The arena offers male and female recreational hockey leagues,senior hockey, ice rentals, as well as family, senior, and preschool skates. Off season the arena hosts ball hockey, summer sports, an agriculturalfair, graduation ceremonies, and many other events.

Our aquatics facilities feature a 25-meter 6 lane speed pool, a hottub, 1 metre diving board and a children’s wading pool.We offer Red Cross swimming lessons and Lifesaving Societyprograms, pool rentals, aqua fitness classes, as well as numerousopen, family, and senior swims.
