ELKS CARE - ELKS SHARE Volume 33 Issue 8 The Staghorn R oton d a El k s Lo dg e # 2 7 10 A F ra t er n al Or g an i za ti o n . My Fellow Elks, Greetings everyone! The holidays are right around the corner and I sincerely wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year! This is the sea-son for giving and you have outdone yourselves with the gifts for the Angel Tree. Many children will get toys for Christmas who might not have other-wise. Thank you! There are lots of events planned for December, January, February, and March. Don’t miss any of them be-cause you will have missed great shows. Under the leadership of Evelyn Long, a Variety Show will be presented on De-cember 14th. There will be many local talents appearing, singing a variety of songs to entertain you for the evening. Don’t forget about the ER’S Eggnog Party on December 24th from 4-6 p.m. Please bring an appetizer to share with Exalted Ruler’s Message Dec. 2019-Jan. 2020 all, and please note anything with nuts. December 31st is our New Year’s Eve Party, so get your tickets early, be-cause it always sells out! On January 11th, Vito Ameruoso will once again bring you the “Best of Frankie Valli”. What a show! Get your tickets early for this one. They will go on sale December 2nd at 10 am. Then on January 25th, Jimmy Maaz along with Patrick Tobin, as Frank Sinatra, and Charlie Lask as Neil Diamond, will bring you a terrific show called, “Legends Live”. On February 8th, “All About Soul”, which is a tribute to Billy Joel, will round out the entertainment. All of these shows will help raise funds for improvements to our building. These shows will be closed affairs, which means you must have a ticket to come into the Lodge. Bar seating will also be sold and if any are available on the day of the show, then tickets may be purchased at the door. Flyers will be posted with information on food, tickets, and cost, etc.. The Elks Memorial Service will be held on December 1st, at 1 pm. All Rotonda Elks who have died in the past year will be recognized, so come and attend this very meaningful service to honor our departed members. Broasted chicken may be purchased after the service. Club/Lounge 697-2710 - Lodge Secretary 697-2708 – Kitchen 697-7707-www.rotondaelks.org E-mail: rotondaelks2710@centurylink.net www.facebook.com/rotonda elks Who doesn’t like a bus trip to visit other Elk Lodges? I have planned a bus trip for us on January 18th. Watch for more information as to which Lodges we will be visiting. It’s always a great time! You have all heard talk about the Flor-ida Elks Youth Camp, well now you can visit at no cost! You will be able to see for yourself what a great camp the Elks support and why the kids love going there in the summer. Fran Kostrowsky, who is our Youth Camp Coordinator, is chairing this bus trip. She is excited to show off the camp with a free lunch provided by the camp cooks. I attended the mid-year Elks Conven-tion in Tampa, November 15-17th. We were encouraged to bring in more members because we are only a little behind California / Hawaii in member-ship, and we want to beat them! Excit-ing news for all Florida Elks: in the year 2021 –2022, we will have our first female President for the state of Flor-ida, Susie Simonelli. Way to go Susie, you have earned it! If you have come to meetings, you would have seen the new podiums! Thank you, Bill Hedges, for building them. They look great! We have a lot of volunteers in this Lodge who do a lot of work for the Lodge. Too many names to list, but I really appreciate all that you do. By giving your time and talents, you are showing that this is YOUR Lodge! Volunteers are the life blood of any charitable organization. Elks Care, Elks Share Jean

Chetts’s-brother and sister-in-law, Bunny and Bill Mazzola, were so gracious in allowing us the use of their car. We thank them very much and will surely enjoy the ride. Only in Florida can you ride in a convertible with the top down in December! On November 21st, the Rotonda Elks Lodge hosted the FLOE SSW District meeting. In attendance were members from North Fort Myers, Fort Myers, Deep Creek, Punta Gorda, and Rotonda Lodges. French onion soup and roast beef sandwiches were served for lunch, along with chocolate lasagna for dessert. I wish to express appreciation to Dianne Johnston and her staff from our Lodge kitchen for a job well done. Keep January 15th open on your calen-dar. It’s our ever-popular fundraising Elkette Fashion Show. Sandy’s Clothes-horse Consignment Store will be hosting it again this year for us. We have a deli-cious Italian meal planned for this event. It includes stuffed shells, a small salad, an Italian roll, and a dessert. Greetings, The holidays are just around the corner, and the Rotonda Elkettes would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and a healthy New Year. We thank everyone for their continuous support at our many fundraising events. Have you noticed anything different at our Lodge? Elkettes recently purchased thirty-nine stainless steel condiment racks for all tables in our Lodge. Elk Trustee Cathy Bros and Elkette Nancy Craig did the honors in picking these out. The new racks will nicely hold all the condiments and salt and pepper shakers found on the tables. They even have a holder for table numbers. Deep appreciation goes out to Nancy Craig, Trustee Jeanne Karellas, and Elk Loyal Knight Wayne Legris and his staff, for the great job they did on the Holiday Bazaar held in November. This was a joint event and it took lots of hard work to plan and organize. It was a success! Thanks everyone! Rotonda Elkettes will be participating in the annual Rotonda Christmas Parade on December 7th. This year we will be It will take place from 11am until 2 pm. Tickets will be $15. p/p, and go on sale after Thanksgiving at our Elk bar. A big thank you to PER and Elk Chap-lain Bob Humphreys for installing the Elkette brick around our garden foun-tain. If anyone has the time to help with the garden, call Trustee Jeanne Karellas and she will put you to work! Elkettes, don’t forget about our Christmas get-together after our small General Meeting in December. It will be at 5:30pm. Husbands and guests are welcome. 9 ELKS CARE ELKS SHARE GO TO WWW.ROTONDAELKS.ORG FOR ALL LODGE NEWS Fellow Elks, 3rd-5th Graders Learn To Sew! Rotonda Elks Lodge partnered with the Rotonda Quilting Club to teach twenty-five Vineland Elementary 3rd-5th graders in the After-school Program to sew again this year. Each child selected a Christmas pillowcase fabric, followed the illustrated directions to prep the fabric and then sat with an adult at the sewing machine! Twenty-five kids make Christmas pillowcases! There were thirty-five volunteer hours in two days of sewing! Rotonda Elks Lodge thanks Cathy Hudson, Debbie Orchard, Mary Ellen Phillips, Gloria Rogosi, and Denise Sloviaski. Their help was invaluable! An office staff member share, “I hope you will do the project next year because my daughter is in the 2nd grade this year”. One child was apprehensive and kept saying, “I can’t fail at this!” He was encouraged and supported through each step and when he finished, he stood up and beamed, “I did it! I finished it in one day!” The students thanked us over and over after we took pictures of their Christmas pillowcases! The office plans to write another grant next year to purchase more fabric. Next year in addition to Vineland’s After-school Program, Myakka Elementary School is interested in Rotonda Elks Lodge members working with their students. If you would be interested in helping with the project, let the office know. It’s fun for everyone who takes part in it! The project is chaired by Debbie Sommers. In January, we will be sewing lap quilts for needy veterans and seniors. If you would like to join us, watch for the sign-up sheet. Rotonda Elks Lodge will provide the fabric, sewing machines, and supplies. It will be at 1-3 pm one a day a week.
