COMMUNITY ARTICLE On the other side use your pliers to create a 90 degree angle downward for the bottom part of the tree After it goes straight for 1 2 or so start to make curly cues with your wire We found it easiest to make the spirals around the battery and then widen the spirals out and stretch it down to the length needed to get to the same height as the magnets at the bottom Cut off any extra copper wire you don t want your project to be any heavier than it needs to Prepare your motor for your project by putting 4 8 mini batteries on the negative side of the battery where there is no bump Stand up your battery on top of the magnets on a table Now you are going to start fitting your spinning Christmas tree on the battery The one side of the copper wire end that you started with will balance on the bump SumNOmDiEtNDTAeLntal 1 4 Page INSURANCE We now have a savings plan for the whole family call us for details Vertical Kool Minds 1 4 Page Vertical 208 733 9999 285 Canyon Crest Drive Twin Falls ID www summitdentalsmiles com www koolminds com December 2023 7

COMMUNITY ARTICLE CONTINUED FROM PAGE 7 at the top of the battery The bottom end of your spirals needs to come down parallel to the magnets You want the spirals wide enough to allow your project to spin but still balanced so the tree doesn t tip over This is the hardest part of the project but only took us about 10 minutes of tweaking I suggest tweaking one at this stage so you can see what it is supposed to look like TROUBLESHOOTING If your project is balanced on the battery with one connector on the top bump and the other parallel to the magnets and it still won t spin try to Flip over your magnets Try a new battery it may be a dud If your project is getting hot use a new battery Children should not be touching or experimenting with hot batteries Try to reduce some of the wire or smooth out the spirals Depending on how balanced your project is it might turn slowly or spin really quickly My kids were amazed by how fast it spun Now comes the craft part of this project the part that makes it look like a Christmas science project for kids Use green crepe paper and a hot glue gun to cover the triangle part at the top Remember you want a sleek project so no need to go crazy with the glue or double the crepe paper Cut off any overhang you need the top connector exposed and glue free to make your Christmas electronics project to work Now it s time to decorate your green Christmas tree project You can use whatever you have on hand We tried fusion beads mini pompoms and confetti They all worked great and did not make the project too heavy Carefully use a hot glue gun to attach your ornament decorations Now it is time to put the project back on the battery and watch the spinning Christmas tree This project comes from the following website so if you need a little more help visit it here www 123homeschool4me com dancing science project_4 YOUR ONE STOP CHRISTMAS STORE WISH LIST DRESS UP GAMES Toy TRAINSTown SCIENCE KITS 1 4 Page LEGO REMOTE CONTROL Vertical ARTS AND CRAFTS NOW OFFERING A DOCTOR SUPERVISED WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM Lose 20 35lbs in 6 weeks with no drugs exercise injections pre packaged food Dr Jill or shakes More energy less pain less inflammation and less weight in 2023 We are here to support you 1 4 Page Call to schedule your no cost no obligation consultation today Vertical 1236 BLUE LAKES BLVD N TWIN FALLS 788 Eastland Drive Ste B Twin Falls Idaho 208 734 3030 www drjillfamilychiro com 8 www southernidahokids com

COMMUNITY ARTICLE Getting Support For Mental Health Mental health continues to be an area of need for our community and many communities across the country While there is more to be done it is impressive to see the work that has been done to bring resources knowledge and support to the youth of our community Here are some examples in the Magic Valley to support youth mental health and ways you can engage SCHOOL COUNSELORS Let s call them the first line of defense School counselors are primarily tasked with helping our children succeed academically but also often become trusted adults with whom kids confide more than just their challenges in the classroom We can be proud that schools throughout the community have these valuable professionals on staff not a standard across the country and also be aware that we need more of them so they can dedicate more time to each individual student FREE COUNSELING There is a growing trend across the Magic Valley to help support families who might be struggling to afford mental health care or are simply struggling to navigate the complexities of insurance and payment for mental health services In the Twin Falls and Kimberly School Districts students and their immediate family members are all eligible to receive free counseling services through the Student and Family Assistance Program offered by BPA Health This program provides additional support such as monthly webinars on mental health topics COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS Live beautifully in any budget The list goes on and on In Southern Idaho we are lucky to have numerous organizations all working to address mental health in our community If you or someone you know needs mental health support and you are not sure where to Destress Relax Float Magic Your Rest Recovery Sanctuary 1 4 Page Vertical 152 2nd Ave S Twin Falls 208 933 2620 www FloatMagic com Presenting the 2024 Winter Show Jump Co 1 4 Page Vertical With Director Ivan Hardcastle Auditions January 5 6 See Facebook website for more details Show February 22 24 At the Orpheum Theatre jumpcompanytwinfalls 10 w w w s o u t h e r n i d a h o k i d s c o m

HEALTH WELLNESS sponsored by HEALTHYHABITS Communication Strategies with Children It s not just for crossing train tracks These four communication strategies are helpful when communicating with your family STOP When children are talking it is important to pause what you are doing and pay attention to the words and body language the child is using Are they saying your name multiple times and pulling at your sleeve They are trying to get your attention to share something that is important to them Are they picking fights with their sibling They may be restless and need guidance on what to do next LOOK When a child is talking to you such as sharing a story or describing a toy they are playing with get down to their level and make eye contact This simple action lets them know that you are interested in what they are saying and seeing them as an individual LISTEN When you are around children it is essential to listen not only to the words a child uses but to what they are really trying to communicate Pay attention to the context of their words and body language Are they pacing around and talking loud and fast They may be getting overwhelmed with too much environmental stimuli and need a gentle hug Talk with them in a low quiet tone make eye contact and let them know you are listening to them THINK What do we want children to learn about interacting with their world Starting with preschool children teach them words for their emotions as well as colors shapes and animals For school age give STOP LOOK LISTEN THINK them verbal feedback For example if they are angry about getting a grade less than what they wanted It sounds like you are feeling frustrated that you worked so hard and got a grade lower than what you wanted I saw that you did put a lot of effort into that project As you move through your busy day occasionally take a minute and remember these four strategies These tools provide reassurance and build selfesteem and confidence in children Dr Kathryn Reese MD St Luke s Pediatrics Sponsored by 18 w w w s o u t h e r n i d a h o k i d s c o m
