We've got the FMX Ticketing and Mainte-nance system up and run-ning, making it much easier for our teachers and staff to get help when they need it. Mr. Swartz and Chad Jacobs has worked hard to make this FMX tickets live. This is a big step in using our resources carefully and we’re working on adding more features that will al-low us to connect our work to how we use our resources and have the ability to cre-ate more clear graphs for financial and project fore-casting. At CHS, we've put in new cameras and sen-sors to help tackle the vap-ing issue, and ensure that we have the ability to make all spaces safe for our stu-dents. Thank you for the funds to help us accomplish this by voting for this prod-uct. Our team learned a lot at the Kansas Leadership Conference regarding tack-ling adaptive challenges, which is great for building our skills as leaders and giving us common language as a department as we ap-proach new challenges to-gether. We're excited about the sound panels and new furniture coming to Chap-arral soon – it's going to make our spaces even more inviting for learning and sports events. We’re fix-ing a few hiccups with our new hudl camera and mak-ing sure our data tools like Educlimber are refined to help clearly see student screeners in one place. Tu-anua has worked closely with our building secretar-ies at Chaparral to help resolve attendance issues and establish clear practic-es for communicating with parents. We've also got the Baker training links ready for our teachers, and there’s an intern joining us soon to work on the Chaparral Chronicles project. We're busy cleaning up accounts and getting ready to renew some contracts, all to keep things running smoothly. We’re excited for the future and so thankful to work with so many amazing peo-ple at Chaparral Schools.Transportation: Dono-van Foster is November Employee of the Month. On Aging: Senior Meal Programs Need Delivery Help By Jennifer WolffHarper County is lucky enough to have 3 Senior Meal programs available to residents. Several pro-grams throughout the state have closed in the last 3 years due to lack of staff, lack of participants & fund-ing shortages. I can see it has great purpose & reward in our communities. These programs need volunteer delivery assistance to get hot meals to residents Mon-day – Friday. They are not asking volunteers to help every day but rather work with the site manager to schedule one day every week you can commit up to 1 hour (or less!) to deliver a hot meal to a senior who is homebound or unable to join congregate meals. It is so fulfilling & new friends await! I know each manag-er is truly thankful for their team of volunteers past & present who make the time to give back to those in the community who need it in this way. Ready to talk with a manager? Giesen shared with those in attendance that the there is a demand for pharmacists and many levels. He stated, “There are a wide range of healthcare settings and they have flexi-ble hours. There will always be a demand for a pharma-cist.” The pharmacist is the person who knows the most about drugs. Consequently, they work with a person’s doctor and other providers to ensure the patient is tak-ing the correct medications at the right doses. In the community phar-macist’ role, the individual usually works in a retail store such as Walgreens or an independently owned pharmacy like Harper Pharmacy or Irwin Potter in Anthony Kansas. They can provide information to a patient about the over the counter drugs as well as the prescriptions prescribed to the patient. They can pro-vide vaccines as well. Giesen has worked as a compounding pharmacist for 36 years. He shared, “The most rewarding for him as to have been an in-dependent pharmacist so he could perform the com-pounding.” Compounding is making a prescription from a cream or liquid made for a particular need of a patient as prescribed by the pri-mary care provider of the patient.A clinical pharmacist works in a hospital, a clinic, or another healthcare set-ting. These pharmacists spend time filling prescrip-tions. Giesen cited, the fact that during the Corona cri-ses the pharmacist works in the research and design, then assist with conducting clinical drug trials for de-veloping new drugs. These industry pharmaceutical roles include the develop-ment of RSV and flu vac-cines. In addition they may also help write the safety guidelines and quality con-trol for new medications.Criteria that helped him gain his goals were to take as much biology, sci-ence, and chemistry that is available in high school. He cited that he had to practice spelling of over 200 top drugs. He attended Hutchinson Community College, then Coffeyville Community College. He said, “The community col-leges provided smaller classes and more attention from the instructor for indi-vidual assistance.” He took many sciences in college with a great deal of chem-istry and lab courses. He earned his Bachelor De-gree from Baker University. Lastly, he gained his phar-macy degree from KU. The KU School of Phar-macy literature was hand-ed out by Giesen, to those who were interested in the field of study. The career includes opportunity for fo-cusing on the teaching and training of future pharma-cists. In addition those with an interest in healthcare records, data, or systems could have opportunities in-cluding development of soft-ware, social media and tele-health services. He stressed that there are many ways to work in the field. This in-cludes but not limited to 12 hour shifts, work seven day on seven days off, or to work a few days a week and get every other weekend off. A pharmacist is more than just fill a prescription. They are the person who knows the most about drugs and assist with advising the correct medications and the right doses for regaining and retaining good health.
