December 15, 2023ד״פשת תבט ’ג ץקמ תשרפ ZOS CHANUKAH 3:54 PMDear Parents,Chazal established the בוט םוי of הכונח to commemorate the סנ of the הרונמ. The Shulchan Aruch in Hilchos Chanukah notes that Chanukah was also the time when they reestablished the חבזמ. The Mishna in ׳ו הנשמ ׳א קרפ תודימ תכסמ writes that the חבזמ was rebuilt by the םיאנומשח because it was used by the Yevanim to serve הרז הדובע. The stones of the dismantled חבזמ were kept in the תומתוחה תכשל – the chamber of receipts – one of the four chambers the Kohanim used near the הרזע of the שדקמה תיב. Based on this, the Rema writes in הכונח תוכלה that חבזמה תכונח היה םימיה ןתואבד םושמ תודועסה יובירב הוצמ תצק שיש םירמוא שיו. There is a Mitzvah to increase seudos to commemorate the dedication of the new Mizbeiach. We see from here that the Yevanim wanted to eradicate both the הרונמה תקלדה and the תדובע תונברקה. The Rambam in ג״י הכלה ׳ג קרפ ןיפסומו ןידימת תוכלה states that the יברעמ רנ of the Menorah was lit from the ןוציחה חבזמ. The רפוס םתח in תבש תכסמ writes that this was essential to the mitzvah of הרונמה תקלדה. If there was no Mizbeiach, there was no Menorah. Perhaps the connection between the Mizbeiach and the Menorah is that both these vessels share the attribute of תודימת, consistency. About the Mizbeiach, the possuk states: דימת שא הבכת אל חבזמה לע דקות. It was imperative that a fire was constantly burning on the Mizbeiach. Similarly, regarding the Menorah, we read: דימת רנ תולעהל. A lamp in the Menorah was constantly burning. The חבזמ represents הדובע which is Tefilah. The Menorah represents Torah: הרותו הוצמ רנ יכ רוא. The Meforshim note that this רוא of the Menorah specifically refers to the light of הרות הפ לעבש. In the life of a Jew, Tefila and Torah must be constant, with no interruptions. Consistent devotion to both aspects is the hallmark of a Yid. The Yevanim wished to deprive us of הרות and הליפת. Every Chanukah, we recelebrate our victory over the Yevanim, and we once again rededicate ourselves to these two central pillars of our existence.תבש טוג!
