(See Sport Regulations section 1000 of the handbook for minimum number requirements for each sport).WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2025 ROSTER REGISTRATION DEADLINEFinal day to add students to your Winter teams.DEADLINE FOR ADDING COACHES TO ROSTERS Coaches can only be added to STARS roster until the (January 22, 2025) roster registration deadline for the winter season of play. Schools wanting to add coaches after the deadline will need to request that BCSS staff make the addition for them. BCSS will only add coaches with confirmed CATT certification. MANDATORY COACHESCONCUSSION TRAINING (CATT)A friendly reminder that all coaches, managers, and assistants must complete the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT). BCSS has mandated this free training for all who work in youth sport. Access the course at cattonline.com. BCSS staff have conducted an audit of coaches that have completed the CATT training relative to coaches that have been added to rosters in STARS and noted that several coaches don’t have the required CATT certification. BCSS will be monitoring this throughout the school year and coaches that don’t have the required CATT will be deemed ineligible to coach until the training has been completed and verification sent to BCSS.
SANCTIONINGHOSTING OR TRAVELLING TO AN EVENT THIRDPARTY EVENT SANCTIONINGCompetition between two or more BCSS member schools is automatically sanctioned. When you are travelling to or hosting an event with an out-of-province team sanctioning is required.Complete the Hosting and/or Travelling sanctioning forms on the website at least 30 days in advance of the event or fines will apply.If your school wishes to attend an event that is not hosted by a member school (e.g. university, club, community, etc.) please ensure the event has been sanctioned by BCSS before attending. An approved list of BCSS third party sanctioned events can be found on the BCSS website here. NOVEMBERATHLETE OF THE MONTHPRESENTED BY BC DAIRYAS FEATURED ON BCSCHOOLSPORTS & BCDAIRYMICAH SNOBELEN - KALAMALKAAs captain of the Kalamalka senior boys volleyball team, Micah is known for being an inspirational player and positive role model. Many, especially his teammates, appreciate his supportive attitude and kind words to those around him. Micah excels in academics and is a strong volleyball player who is a key contributor to his team. He was a top scorer in November in blocks, attacks, and serves as an opposite hitter. Micah’s hard work has paid off in crucial times, and his leadership has driven Kalamalka to a successful season with strong tournament results, ultimately earning a bronze medal at the 2024 2A Boys Volleyball Championship, where he was also named a 1st team all-star.Congratulations to our November Male & Female Athletes of the Month! The deadline is December 31.ELOISE WILLIAMS-WALSHE - CROFTON HOUSELast month, Eloise captained Crofton House to their first-ever zone championship banner and first 2A Field Hockey Championship title in ten years. Her leadership and outstanding performance on the field led to two goals that secured the zone championship banner, as well as the only goal in the 2A championship game, clinching the gold medal for the Falcons. The scholarship application package will be published by the end of January. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024-25 BC School Sports Awards. Each year, BCSS recognizes individuals across our five categories that contribute to improve the quality and delivery of school sport in the province.
