The sizing of the 2022 market estimates that despite the economic uncertainty, the war in Ukraine and the 2022 Christmas postal strikes, the market was resilient and fell by just -2% in value since 2021. The total retail value of single cards sales in the UK in 2022 stood at £1.46 billion, equating to 828 million single cards sold Perhaps most encouragingly, the British public continue to be highly engaged with the category, with 90% of consumers buying card(s) every year.UK CARD MARKET The UK Greeting Card Market is worth £1.46 billion at retailEveryday card* sales account for 77% of total retail value of all single card sales, with an Average Retail Price (ARP) of £1.77 (down marginally from a revised** £1.78 in 2021). SPENDING EASTER AT HOMEEven though Inflation continued to eat into consumer spending power over the course of 2023, consumer spending on Easter grew 16%. 2023 was about making Easter about spending time with the family at home plus In-home dining at Easter will remain a key opportunity in 2024. More than 4 in 5 UK adults (84%) plan to celebrate Easter in 2024, which is around 44.5 million people. This figure is up from 3 in 4 Brits (74%) who planned to celebrate the holiday in 2023 and also more than those who planned to celebrate in 2022 (75%).EASTER TRENDS2. HOMEBAKING CONTINUESThe homebaking trend started during the first lockdown but hasn't slowed down. This activity allows families get together around the kitchen table and spend some quality time together. The Easter season is no exception, with craft projects and fun things to do from decorating eggs to making Easter desserts4. CONSUMERS LOOK FOR PLANT BASED OPTIONSPlant based / Vegan food has also grown increasingly popular since the pandemic. The concerns about health and the environment have grown in recent years, and plant-based food responds to that need. As plant based went from niche to mainstream, it reached even the most indulgent and festive categories.5. POPULAR BUT WITH A TWISTEaster eggs are one of the most popular treats around the holiday. We all know it, and seemingly every sweets brand has come out with their version of it. But there are so many more creative ways of dreaming up an “Easter Egg”. M&S' 23 Carrot Gold definitely raised some eyebrows with a “carrot-shaped” easter egg which was decorated with real, edible gold leafSEASONAL TRENDSOver the last few years, we have seen some key trends come through in the Easter season. From Danilo's perspective, we have seen brands such as Despicable Me and Peter Rabbit perform well and an increase in card packs and money wallet styles. As you will see from the designs displayed in this brochure, we have incorpoated this feedback into our 2025 selection.From an external point of view, please see below an outline of some of the more apparent Easter trends that we have seen in the UK over the past year, and what may continue into 2024 and 2025.3. We all know that products have a powerful opportunity to tap into exactly that. Nestle did just that with Easter campaign “Alice”.
