cumberland view better living quality living Cumberland View News ISSUE 11 JULY 2018 Retirement Living Welcome to our July newsletter It s always a little harder getting out of bed during these crisp winter mornings when it s so snug and warm in bed However make sure you re up in time to catch the exciting activities going on around Cumberland View Aged Care Living Home Care BLOOMING GREAT PLANTS AND GARDENS There s been a milestone marriage and birthday We welcome new staff and there s something in the soil at the village with the arrival of babies from the garden team Enjoy reading about some of the activities residents have been up to recently Happy Reading WELCOME OUR NEW STAFF Tania Young Tania Young is the new receptionist at Cumberland View Retirement Village Tania started at the village earlier this year and is a great addition to the team We look forward to many years working together Kate Campbell Cumberland View Aged Care Living has a new Business Development Manager Kate Campbell She commenced with us on 2nd July What s Happening Cumberland View Retirement Living 8th August Bus trip to stage show Mamma Mia 9th August Fashion Parade Every Wednesday from 4th July Revue Practice annual show put on by Staff Residents 28th August Croquet Bus Trip 8th September Lawn Bowls Dinner for Opening Season 17th September Trip to Lakes Entrance Winter may be here but there s still plenty of flowers blooming in the village glass house to brighten your day It s a great time of year to wander through the glass house and see the different Petunias the colourful Cyclamens and smell the lovely scent of the Orchids Residents can enjoy the abundance of delightful plants all year round Outdoors in the resident vegie gardens where there s seasonal greens growing to make a lovely home made hearty winter meal Garden plots are allocated to residents and they are producing Chard Silverbeet rhubarb lettuce parsnip and more

Cumberland View News CRUISING AROUND HAWAII ISLANDS Village residents Glennis and Bernadette recently returned from an exciting holiday cruising around the Hawaii Islands They were lucky to witness the fury of Mt Kilauea which looked even more spectacular at night against the dark background Another amazing moment was cruising up the Na Pali Coast which has a series of small villages that are a throwback to earlier times While cruising in this area they were followed by a rainbow which according to the locals doesn t happen very often and is considered to be very lucky The weather was misty which is understandable considering that some parts of the island receives over 600 inches per year There were so many beautiful place they visited along the way The good thing about cruising is that it takes a lot of the hassle out of organising travel After a comfy sleep passengers often wake up in the morning and are in another place Therefore they have the freedom to explore the exciting new sights on offer during the day RUTH IS UP IN LIGHTS Have you seen Ruth on the Wellington Road Billboard Ruth from Cumberland View Aged Care Whalley Drive has been helping us with signage advertising Her lovely presence also features on the back of buses After seeing the advertising she jokingly said Yes I m famous Thank you for being our star MILK SHAKE FUNDRAISER IN HONOUR OF JOHN In honour of the late John Lewis Cumberland View Aged Care continued his wonderful work in helping ones with Parkinson s and held his Milk Shake fundraiser The event raised 245 John established the event and was very proud of it It was a permanent fixture on the annual event calendar John started up a Parkinson s Support Group within the home having the condition himself and also his wife It was a way of bringing sufferers together and supporting each other He organised guest speakers and explained the condition to staff so they could better treat people For further information on Parkinson s Victoria phone 1800 644 189 or go to www parkinsons org au

cumberland view better living quality living ISSUE 11 JULY 2018 CIAO VIENI A CENA HELLO COME FOR DINNER 65 WONDERFUL YEARS OF MARRIAGE Residents recently enjoyed a social dinner in the village hall Italian style There was lasagne for mains followed by Italian dessert and of course there was wine flowing The tables were dressed in Italian colours red green and white and residents entered the hall translating an Italian greeting to English which added to the theme of the night Residents Jean and Jim at Cumberland View Aged Care recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary They are originally from Aberdeen in Scotland before migrating to Australia in 1955 They met when Jean was doing some babysitting for Jim s brother and sister in law and quickly became a couple They married on 20th June 1953 and are still inseparable The village hosts many regular social gathering and activities organised by residents There s always something going on A 65th wedding anniversary is commonly referred to as the sky blue anniversary If they lived in the United Kingdom they could receive a congratulatory message from Buckingham Palace HAPPY 95TH BIRTHDAY NORMA BABY NEWS Drew s new baby boy Cumberland View Retirement Village s Grounds and Maintenance supervisor Drew and his wife Kylie welcomed baby Beau to the world on the 14th June Congrats It s a boy The village Gardener Brad and his partner Katherine announced the arrival of little baby Ollie earlier this year Everyone is doing well Norma celebrated her Birthday on the 22nd June with family friends and staff Her daughter Kathrin was by her side for the special occasion at Cumberland View Aged Care Windmill Court
