The correct installaon of a storefront system is crical to its performance and should only be carried out by a knowledgeable and experienced installaon crew. There are no safe shortcuts. Failure to install the proper quanty and type of perimeter fasteners and sealants as prescribed by approved construcon drawings, engineer’s requirements and all local building codes could lead to catastrophic failure of the in-stallaon with damaging results. These instrucons are to be used as a supplement to the shop drawings and are designed to show general fabricaon sequence and procedure for a typical installaon. If you don't know, or aren't sure; ask a qualied Trulite representave. COMMON STOREFRONT SYSTEM FIELD FAILURE PROBLEMS 1. Failure to follow product installaon instrucons 2. Poor workmanship 3. Frames not installed level and plumb 4. Frames not properly aached to resist dynamic forces of shear, tension and compression 5. Mullion and ller not properly engaged 6. Debris le in glazing pockets 7. Misapplicaon. For example, ulizing a storefront system for a curtain wall applicaon 8. Glass not centered in opening and not using proper seng blocks.

Tel (800) 432-8132. www.trulite.com page 4 PART 1 - HANDLING, STORING AND PROTECTION OF ALUMINUM PRECAUTIONS: The following precauons are recommended to protect architectural aluminum materials against damage. Following these precauons will help ensure early acceptance of your products and workmanship. A. HANDLE CAREFULLY: All aluminum materials stored at job site must be stored with adequate separaon and not stacked directly onto the concrete oor slab to prevent materials from being damaged when handling. Cardboard wrapped or paper interleaved materials must be kept dry. B. CHECK ARRIVING MATERIALS: Check for quanty and keep records of where various materials are stored. C. KEEP MATERIAL AWAY FROM WATER, MUD AND SPRAY: Prevent cement, plaster or other materials from damaging the nish. D. PROTECT MATERIALS AFTER ERECTION: Wrap aluminum secon proles with polyethylene or protect by erecng a polyethylene splaer screen. Cement, plaster, terrazzo, other alkaline soluons and acid based materials used to clean concrete are very harmful to the nish and should be removed with water and mild soap IMMEDIATELY. Reference AAMA 609 and 610-2 for cleaning architectural aluminum. PART 2 - FRAME FABRICATION A. CHECK SHOP DRAWINGS & INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS to become thoroughly familiar with the project. The SHOP DRAWINGS take precedence and include specic details for the project. The INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS are of general nature and cover most common condions. B. CUTTING TOLERANCES: Fabricaon cung tolerances are +0”/-1/32” unless otherwise noted. C. PREPPING OF PARTS: Drill and tap holes to correct sizes and notch as required for frame assembly. D. GLAZING: Clean surfaces and use only approved gaskets. E. BUILDING CODES: Glass and glazing codes governing the design and use of products vary widely throughout the USA. Trulite does not control the selecon of product conguraons, or glazing materials, and assumes no responsibility for these design consideraons. It is the responsibility of the owner, specier, architect, general contractor and installer to make these selecons in strict conformance with all applicable codes. PART 3 - GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS A. BENCH MARKS: All work should start from bench marks and/or column lines established by the ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS and the GENERAL CONTRACTOR with guaranteed accuracy. B. SURROUNDING CONDITIONS: Make certain that construcon receiving your materials is in accordance with the con-tract documents. Nofy the general contractor in wring of any discrepancies and resolve dierences before proceeding with work. C. ERECTION: All materials are to be installed plumb, level and true. D. ISOLATION OF ALUMINUM: Aluminum to be placed in direct contact with uncured concrete or incompable materi-als should be isolated with a heavy coat of zinc chromate or bituminous paint. E. FASTENING: Within the body of these instrucons, “fastening” means any method of securing one part to another or to adjacent materials. Only those fasteners used within the system are specied in these instrucons. Due to various sub-strates condions to which the framing may be aached, specic structural perimeter anchor fasteners are not specied in these instrucons. For structural perimeter fasteners, reference the shop drawings or consult with the engineer of rec-ord. F. EXPANSION JOINTS: Expansion joints and perimeter seals shown in these instrucons or in the shop drawings are shown at normal size. Actual dimensions may vary due to perimeter condions and dierences in metal temperature be-tween me of fabricaon and the me of installaon.

COORDINATION WITH OTHER TRADES: Coordinate with the GENERAL CONTRACTOR and sequence with other trades any materials which oset the framing installaon. For example, backup walls, parons, ceilings, mechanical ducts, con-vectors, etc. H. FINAL CLEANING (CARE AND MAINTENANCE): Final cleaning of exposed aluminum surfaces should be done in ac-cordance with AAMA publicaons 609 and 610-2 . I. GLASS INSTALLATION. REMOVE ALL TRASH FROM GLAZING POCKETS AND REGLETS. Set glass on two (2) idencal seng blocks posioned at 1/4 points or 1/8 points in opening. It is recommended not to place seng blocks closer than 6” from the edge of glass. (Refer to approved shop drawing or Engineer’s requirements for special condi-ons). FIG. 12.0 FIG. 12.1 GLASS SIZE CALCULATION Glass bite is 7/16”. To calculate glass size, add two 7/16” (or 7/8”) to D.L.O size. Example: Vercal D.L.O = 92” Horizontal D.L.O. = 46” Glass sizes: Height of glass = 92” + 7/8” = 92 7/8” Width of glass = 46” + 7/8” = 46 7/8”

Tel (800) 432-8132. www.trulite.com page 34 GLAZING GASKETS FOR STOREFRONT SYSTEMS CORNER TREATMENTS Glazing gaskets are prone to shrink and pull away at the corners over a period of me. This allows for excessive air and/or water inltraon at the corners. Standard glazing pracce is to provide corner treatment to ensure weather ghtness on the exterior and interior corner intersecons. NOT RECOMMENDED Notch Cung Corners - The corners of the rubber gasket are notched on the underside without cung the nearside. The gasket is installed in one length and is bu joined in the center at the horizontal or header. While this method of glazing is widely used for marine glazing residenal sliding glass doors or shower doors, it is not recommended for commercial storefront glazing. RECOMMENDED (SEALED CORNERS) Pull gaskets back 2” in both direcons from interior and exterior corners as shown in FIG. 16.2 and seal with sealant. This should be done on exterior and interior for best performance. While long-term adhesion to the rubber gaskets with sealant is not assured, historical eld experience has proven this type corner treatment to be the next best method short of vulcanized corner gaskets. Apply sealant 2” back from each corner SEAL CORNERS NOTE: Schemac art is not representave of exact details shown within these instrucons. FIG. 16.2 NOT RECOMMENDED FIG. 16.1
