The correct installaon of an impact resistant system is crical to its performance and should only be carried out by a knowledgeable and experienced installaon crew. There are no safe shortcuts. Failure to install the proper quanty and type of perimeter fasteners and seal-ants as prescribed by approved construcon drawings / Product Approval and all local building codes could lead to catastrophic failure of the installaon with damaging results. These instrucons are to be used as a supplement to the shop drawings and are designed to show general fabricaon sequence and procedure for a typical installaon. If you don't know, or aren't sure; ask a qualified Trulite representave. COMMON STOREFRONT SYSTEM FIELD FAILURE PROBLEMS 1. Failure to follow product installaon instrucons 2. Poor workmanship 3. Frames not installed level and plumb 4. Frames not properly aached to resist dynamic forces of shear, tension and compression 5. Male and female mullion not properly engaged 6. Debris le in glazing pockets 7. Misapplicaon. For example, ulizing a storefront system for a curtain wall applicaon 8. Improper applicaon of heel bead silicone 9. Glass not centered in opening and not using proper seng blocks.

Tel (800) 432‐8132. www.trulite.com page 4 PART 1 ‐ HANDLING, STORING AND PROTECTION OF ALUMINUM PRECAUTIONS: The following precauons are recommended to protect architectural aluminum materials against damage. Following these precauons will help ensure early acceptance of your products and work-manship. A. HANDLE CAREFULLY: All aluminum materials stored at job site must be stored with adequate separaon and not stacked directly onto the concrete floor slab to prevent materials from being dam-aged when handling. Cardboard wrapped or paper interleaved materials must be kept dry. B. CHECK ARRIVING MATERIALS: Check for quanty and keep records of where various materials are stored. C. KEEP MATERIAL AWAY FROM WATER, MUD AND SPRAY: Prevent cement, plaster or other ma-terials from damaging the fi-nish. D. PROTECT MATERIALS AFTER ERECTION: Wrap aluminum secon profiles with polyethylene or protect by erecng a polyethylene splaer screen. Cement, plaster, terrazzo, other alkaline soluons and acid based materials used to clean concrete are very harmful to the fi-nish and should be re-moved with water and mild soap IMMEDIATELY. Reference AAMA 609 and 610-2 for cleaning archi-tectural aluminum. PART 2 ‐ FRAME FABRICATION & GLAZING A. CHECK SHOP DRAWINGS, PRODUCT APPROVAL, INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS to become thor-oughly familiar with the project. The SHOP DRAWINGS take precedence and include specific details for the project. The INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS are of general nature and cover most common con-dions. B. CUTTING TOLERANCES: Fabricaon cung tolerances are +0”/-1/32” unless otherwise noted. C. PREPPING OF PARTS: Drill and tap holes to correct sizes and notch as required for frame assem-bly. D. GLAZING: Clean surfaces and use only approved structural silicone. E. BUILDING CODES: Glass and glazing codes governing the design and use of products vary widely throughout the USA. Trulite does not control the selecon of product configuraons, or glazing mate-rials, and assumes no responsibility for these design consideraons. It is the responsibility of the own-er, specifier, architect, general contractor and installer to make these selecons in strict conformance with all applicable codes.

Tel (800) 432‐8132. www.trulite.com page 5 PART 3 ‐ UNIT INSTALLATION A. BENCH MARKS: All work should start from bench marks and/or column lines established by the ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS and the GENERAL CONTRACTOR with guaranteed accuracy. B. SURROUNDING CONDITIONS: Make certain that construcon receiving your materials is in ac-cordance with the contract documents. Nofy the general contractor in wring of any discrepancies and resolve differences before proceeding with work. C. ERECTION: All materials are to be installed plumb, level and true. D. ISOLATION OF ALUMINUM: Aluminum to be placed in direct contact with uncured concrete or incompable materials should be isolated with a heavy coat of zinc chromate or bituminous paint. E. FASTENING: Within the body of these instrucons, “fastening” means any method of securing one part to another or to adjacent materials. Only those fasteners used within the system are specified in these instrucons. Due to various substrates condions to which the framing may be aached, spe-cific structural perimeter anchor fasteners are not specified in these instrucons. For structural perim-eter fasteners, reference the shop drawings, Product Approval or consult with the engineer of record. F. EXPANSION JOINTS: Expansion joints and perimeter seals shown in these instrucons or in the shop drawings and Product Approval are shown at normal size. Actual dimensions may vary due to perimeter condions and differences in metal temperature between me of fabricaon and the me of installaon. G. COORDINATION WITH OTHER TRADES: Coordinate with the GENERAL CONTRACTOR and se-quence with other trades any materials which offset the framing installaon. For example, backup walls, parons, ceilings, mechanical ducts, convectors, etc. H. FINAL CLEANING (CARE AND MAINTENANCE): Final cleaning of exposed aluminum surfaces should be done in accordance with AAMA publicaons 609.1 for anodized aluminum and 610.1 for applied painted coangs (liquid or powder). (CONTINUATION) CORNER TREATMENTS Glazing gaskets are prone to shrink and pull away at the corners over a period of me. This allows for exces-sive air and/or water infiltraon at the corners. Standard glazing pracce is to provide corner treatment to ensure weather ghtness on the exterior and interior corner intersecons. RECOMMENDED: SEALED CORNERS Pull gaskets back 2” in both direcons from corners as shown in FIG. 9 and seal with seal-ant. While long-term adhesion to the rubber gaskets with sealant is not assured, historical field experience has proven this type of cor-ner treatment to be the next best method short of vulcanized corner gaskets. NOT RECOMMENDED (FIG. 10) Notch Cung Corners - The corners of the rubber gasket are notched on the underside without cung the nearside. The gasket is installed in one length and is bu joined in the center at the horizontal or header. While this method of glazing is widely used for marine glaz-ing residenal sliding glass doors or shower doors, it is not recom-mended for commercial storefront glazing. FIG. 9 FIG. 10

PERIMETER HEEL BEAD SILICONE SEALANT APPLICATION It is recommended to mask off glass and frame fin (Fig 11) prior to applying structural sealant. Make sure sur-faces are clean and dry, and appropriate primers have been used. Fill enre void with structural silicone seal-ant (refer to product approval for approved silicone types) and tool flush with the outer edge frame. Immedi-ately remove masking tape and allow sealants to cure. FIG. 11 STRUCTURAL SEALANT MASKING TAPE
