4College of Sciences and Humanities / Facilities and LabsFACILITIES AND LABSClick the areas below to discover various facilities and laboratories where our students work alongside faculty growing in their disciplines.Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL)Students in the AAL get hands-on experience nding and preserving cultural artifacts. They go on digs and surveys where they locate, identify, classify, and preserve the remnants of Native American and settler communities. They also go to schools, state parks, and other facilities, and educate the public on earlier cultures that inhabited Indiana and the region so as to help us understand how our forebears lived.Thomas S. Macomish Aquatic Biology and Fisheries CenterThe Center houses a state-of-the-art research facility equipped with various-sized tanks to accommodate a diverse range of sh species. Here, students collaborate with wildlife biology professors on cutting-edge research aimed at bolstering endangered populations and controlling invasive species. Innovative studies, including the use of laser technology to analyze airow during courtship rituals, provide unprecedented insights into sh mating behaviors.Rinard Orchid GreenhouseExperience a small tropical environment in the middle of Indiana! With over 2,000 orchids, the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse contains the largest university-based orchid collection in the United States. The 3,400-square-foot greenhouse is a resource used by students in biology, natural resources, art, technology, landscape architecture, and photography, and presents a variety of educational programs open to the public.Game Production StudioThis innovative space fosters collaboration between students in the Department of Computer Science, School of Art, and School of Music, empowering them to independently develop games in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. Students can workshop ideas, develop their own video games, launch startup companies, and even release their creations commercially on digital distribution platforms like Steam.

6College of Sciences and Humanities / Charles W. Brown PlanetariumSEE THE SKY LIKE NEVER BEFOREThe Charles W. Brown Planetarium, part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, is an immersive theater where state-of-the-art technology transforms the 16-meter (roughly 52-foot) dome into a simulation of the night sky as seen from Earth and space. Fly through Saturn’s rings, land on Mars, and travel to distant stars and galaxies.Over 150 reclining seats allow guests to comfortably view projections from the planetarium’s GOTO CHRONOS II HYBRID system, which includes an RSA Cosmos digital 4K system to display amazing visualizations based on real scientic data.
