This devotional was born from a single verse: Jeremiah 31:33. What began as a versemapping study unfolded into something far bigger—a sweeping journey throughScripture, tracing the promise of God’s truth conquering the serpent’s lie. What I discovered was this: from the moment the enemy whispered his deception in thegarden, God was already speaking redemption. The curse would not be the final word. The lie would be exposed. The serpent would be crushed.Crushed: From Garden to Glory follows that redemptive arc—from the first prophecyin Genesis 3:15, to the promises of covenant, the coming of Christ, and the final victoryalready secured through the cross. It is not just a study of what happened, but aninvitation to examine how those same ancient lies still echo in our world—andsometimes in our hearts. Each section is carefully designed to walk you through truth. Short, scripture-richdevotionals, Bible study questions, and reflection prompts that don’t just inform, butallow the Holy Spirit room to transform your lives. And because this journey began withverse mapping, I’ve included a printable verse map samples for you to walk your ownjourney through Jeremiah 31:33 to help you dive into the very promise that started itall. My prayer is that as you move through this devotional, the Holy Spirit will reveal anyplaces where the lie has taken root—and plant in its place the unshakable truth ofGod’s Word. That you will come to see this battle for what it truly is: already won.So open the Word with expectation. Lean into His truth with confidence. Let the victoryof Christ reshape your heart—because from Garden to Glory, the promise has neverchanged.Love in Christ,Welcome!A PERSONAL NOTE FOR YOUDear Beautiful Soul,Rebeccawww.lyricandletter.com

IntroductionWe are all living in the echo of a lie.It started in Eden—an ancient whisper that God couldn’t be trusted, that His Word was restrictive, that He was holding out on us. And humanity fell for it.But God was not silent. From the very beginning, He was already working out a plan—not to patch up what was broken, butto redeem it completely, to crush the serpent, and to restore His people through a covenant writtennot on stone, but on hearts. This devotional will guide you through the key moments in Scripture that trace this redemptive arc—from the first promise of the Gospel in Genesis to the suffering of the Messiah in Isaiah. With eachsection, we’ll uncover how the serpent’s lie shaped the world—and how the truth of Christ exposesand overthrows it.This journey is not just about understanding what’s true. It’s about asking how much of the lie we’vestill believed, and how the Gospel calls us to live in the light of what’s already been won.Opening PrayerHoly Spirit, come. We quiet our hearts before You.You are the Spirit of truth, and we ask You to lead us into all truth as we walk through thisdevotional. Open our eyes to see what we’ve missed, soften our hearts to receive what we’veresisted, and strengthen our faith to believe what You have spoken.Shine Your light into every place where the serpent’s lie has lingered in us. Uproot what is false.Replace it with what is true. Write Your Word on our hearts—not as information, but astransformation. We don’t want to just read about victory—we want to walk in it.Thank You for Jesus, the One who crushed the serpent under His feet. Thank You for the cross thatshattered the curse. Thank You for the resurrection that sealed the promise.Speak, Lord. We are listening. Shape us by Your Word. Lead us by Your Spirit. And may truth reignin us—from garden to glory. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.FROM LIE TO LIFE

Page 10

ScriptureGenesis 3:15 (ESV) - “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspringand her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”InsightThis is God’s war cry against the serpent. Even as the world fell into sin, He announced a Savior whowould triumph. The promise of Jesus wasn’t plan B. It was the first declaration of hope, made rightin the middle of humanity’s rebellion.Every false religion, cultural philosophy, and self-made morality has tried to crush this truth—someopenly, some subtly. And one of the greatest tactics of the enemy has been to confuse thecategories altogether—so that what is evil is celebrated, and what is holy is hated. The war is nolonger just good versus evil, but truth versus distortion.Jesus Christ is the Seed who would crush the serpent’s head—not through domination, but throughsacrificial love and triumphant resurrection. His victory defines what is good, and His Word exposeswhat is not.Bible Study QuestionsWhat does this verse show us about how God responds to evil?1.How is the Gospel already present in this earliest promise?2.Why is the battle between truth and deception so central in Scripture?3.Writing PromptWhere have you accepted a cultural definition of “good” that doesn’t align with God’s Word? Inwhat areas has the world blurred your view of truth and righteousness? Ask God to show you how tosee through the lens of His victory, not the world’s distortion.THE FIRST GOSPEL

THE FIRST GOSPEL

ScriptureGenesis 3:1 (ESV) - “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that theLord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree inthe garden?’”InsightThe world didn’t break because of violence or war. It broke because a voice questioned the truth ofGod’s Word. Satan didn’t need to force rebellion—he just sowed suspicion. And ever since, cultures, institutions, and human hearts have followed his pattern. This lie still governs the world: “You can be your own god.” And if we’re honest, we’ve eachbelieved it in ways we may not have even realized. The fruit of self-worship is all around us: brokenhomes, political corruption, sexual confusion, and pride paraded as freedom. But behind it all is thesame voice from Eden.Bible Study QuestionsWhat tactics does Satan use to twist God’s truth?1.Where do you see these same patterns in the world around you?2.Why is the questioning of God’s Word so spiritually dangerous?3.Writing PromptWhere in your own life have you subtly lived as if your desires or reasoning matter more than God’sWord? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any place where you’ve followed the serpent’s voice instead ofthe Shepherd’s.THE LIE THAT BROKE THE WORLD

Page 13

THE LIE THAT BROKE THE WORLD

Page 14

ScriptureGenesis 22:18 (ESV) - “And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, becauseyou have obeyed my voice.”InsightFrom the start, God’s plan was global. While the serpent divided and scattered humanity, Godpromised a blessing that would unite it—through one descendant of Abraham. That Seed is Jesus, the Savior not just of Israel, but of every tribe, language, and nation. But here’s the subtle danger: many of us have believed the lie that the Gospel is private, personal-only, or just for “people like us.” We forget that God’s heart is always reaching outward—to blessthe nations with the truth that heals.Bible Study QuestionsHow does this verse anticipate the coming of Christ?1.What does this reveal about God’s intentions for all people?2.How does this challenge narrow or cultural versions of Christianity?3.Writing PromptHave you ever treated the Gospel like it was just for you—or for your kind of people? How is Godinviting you to pray, think, and live with His global mission in mind?A PROMISE FOR ALL NATIONS

Page 15

A PROMISE FOR ALL NATIONS

Page 16

Scripture2 Samuel 7:12–14 (ESV) - “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I willraise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will beto him a father, and he shall be to me a son.”InsightGod promised David that one of his descendants would rule forever. That King is Jesus—therighteous, eternal ruler. While earthly kingdoms rise and fall, His will never end. Yet the world is stillchasing temporary thrones—governments, empires, even self-empowerment.And sometimes, so are we.We place our trust in politicians, influencers, or ourselves, hoping someone will “fix it.” But onlyChrist’s kingdom brings true peace, because only Christ reigns in righteousness.Bible Study QuestionsHow does this passage connect David’s line to Christ’s kingship?1.What does it mean for a kingdom to be eternal?2.Why does it matter that Jesus is on the throne right now?3.Writing PromptWhat “earthly kings” have you trusted to give you peace, identity, or security? How does knowingJesus reigns now and forever reshape where you place your hope?A KING WHOSE KINGDOM WILL NEVER END

ScriptureIsaiah 53:5, 10 (ESV) - “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for ouriniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we arehealed.”...“Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makesan offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shallprosper in his hand.”InsightThis is the Gospel in its clearest prophetic form. Jesus, the Seed of the woman, is crushed—not forHis own sin, but for ours. And through His suffering, He wins. The serpent’s strike—what looked likedefeat—became the very means of victory. The world sees suffering as failure, and strength as dominance. But the cross redefines both. TheOne who was crushed became the Cornerstone of a new creation.Bible Study QuestionsHow does Isaiah 53 reveal both the suffering and the glory of Christ?1.Why was it necessary for Jesus to be “crushed”?2.How does this passage fulfill the promise of Genesis 3:15?3.Writing PromptWhat’s one area of pain or loss where you’ve doubted God’s purpose? How does the cross of Christhelp you see suffering in a new light?THE WOUNDED ONE WHO WINS

THE WOUNDED ONE WHO WINS

Page 20

ScriptureRomans 3:20 (ESV) - “For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, sincethrough the law comes knowledge of sin.”InsightAfter giving promises to the patriarchs, God gave the Law to Israel—not to save them, but to showthem their need for a Savior. The Law is holy and good, but it cannot make anyone righteous. Itexposes sin, not erases it. And that was the point: to prepare hearts to long for the promisedRedeemer. But the world still clings to performance-based righteousness. Many think being “a good person” isenough. And if we’re honest, even those of us who believe the Gospel can slip back into trying toearn God’s love.Bible Study QuestionsWhat was the true purpose of the Law according to this verse?1.How does the Law reveal our sin rather than remove it?2.Why do human efforts at self-righteousness always fall short?3.Writing PromptWhere have you been trying to earn God’s acceptance by being “good enough”? How can youreturn to grace today and rest in Christ’s righteousness instead of your own?THE LAW THAT EXPOSES OUR NEED

Page 21

THE LAW THAT EXPOSES OUR NEED

Page 22

ScriptureGalatians 3:19 (ESV) - “Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until theoffspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place throughangels by an intermediary.”InsightThe Law was never meant to be the end—it was a placeholder until Jesus came. It restrained eviland revealed sin, but it could not change hearts. God’s plan was always moving toward Christ, theonly One who could fulfill the Law perfectly. The world still lives as if self-sufficiency is a virtue. “Be your own solution,” they say. But that lie leadsonly to burnout and despair. True freedom begins with surrender.Bible Study QuestionsWhat does this verse teach us about the temporary role of the Law?1.How does the Law point forward to Christ?2.Why is it important to see the Law as part of a bigger story?3.Writing PromptWhere have you been trusting in your own strength, your own discipline, or your own goodness?Confess that self-sufficiency and ask God to deepen your dependence on the finished work of Jesus.THE LIE OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Page 23

THE LIE OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Page 24

ScriptureRomans 5:12 (ESV) - “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and deaththrough sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”InsightSin doesn’t just live in the world—it lives in us. Adam’s rebellion opened the door to death for everyhuman being. We are not born neutral. We are born in need. The entire human race is under thecurse of sin, and with it, the just penalty of death. This is the sobering truth our world tries to ignore or deny. We dress it up with positive thinking orredefine it with moral relativism. But only when we see sin for what it is can we understand grace forwhat it gives.Bible Study QuestionsHow does this verse explain the universal human condition?1.What are the consequences of sin according to Paul?2.Why is understanding original sin essential to understanding the Gospel?3.Writing PromptHow have you underestimated the seriousness of sin in your own life or in the world around you? What shifts when you see sin as a fatal disease—and Christ as your only cure?THE CURSE OF DEATH, AND THE GIFT OF LIFE

Page 25

THE CURSE OF DEATH, AND THE GIFT OF LIFE

Page 26

ScriptureRomans 6:23 (ESV) - “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in ChristJesus our Lord.”InsightThis verse captures the Gospel in one line: what we earned was death; what God offers is life. Notbecause of anything we’ve done, but because of His mercy. Death is what sin deserves. But Christstepped into death so we could step into life. This is the reversal of the serpent’s lie: Satan said, “You will not surely die.” But God says, “You weredead—but now you can live.”Bible Study QuestionsWhat is the difference between wages and a gift?1.How does this verse frame both the justice and mercy of God?2.What makes Christ’s gift of eternal life so radically undeserved?3.Writing PromptHave you truly received eternal life as a gift—or are you still trying to earn it? What changes whenyou stop striving and start worshiping?VICTORY IN THE FACE OF DEATH

Page 27

VICTORY IN THE FACE OF DEATH

Page 28

ScriptureColossians 2:15 (ESV) - “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, bytriumphing over them in him.”InsightAt the cross, Jesus didn’t just die for sin—He defeated the powers of darkness. Satan’s weapon wasguilt, and his power was death. But Jesus disarmed both. The serpent who slithered into the gardenwas publicly shamed at Golgotha. What began in Genesis 3 was completed in Calvary’s victory. This is the great unveiling of what redemption really is: not just personal salvation, but cosmictriumph. Christ is not only your Savior—He is the conquering King.Bible Study QuestionsWhat powers did Christ disarm at the cross?1.Why is it important that His victory was public and complete?2.How does this verse tie directly back to Genesis 3:15?3.Writing PromptDo you live like Jesus has already triumphed over the enemy—or like the battle still depends onyou? Where do you need to stand in the victory He has already won?THE KING WHO CRUSHED THE SERPENT

Page 30

ScriptureHebrews 2:14 (ESV) - “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewisepartook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power ofdeath, that is, the devil.”InsightJesus did not conquer from afar. He entered into flesh and blood—our weakness, our humanity—sothat He could destroy the very one who wielded death like a weapon. In His dying, Christ brokedeath’s power and exposed Satan’s defeat. The lie of the world is that death is natural, even noble, or that we can beat it through legacy, science, or denial. But death is a curse—and Christ is its Conqueror.Bible Study QuestionsWhat does this verse reveal about why Christ had to take on human nature?1.How does His death destroy the devil’s power?2.Why is the incarnation essential to our redemption?3.Writing PromptWhere have you softened your view of death or evil, forgetting that both are enemies Christ came todestroy? How does Jesus’ full humanity and victory help you face these realities with hope?CRUSHED FOR OUR REDEMPTION

ScriptureHebrews 8:10 (ESV) - “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after thosedays, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and Iwill be their God, and they shall be my people.”InsightThe serpent’s lie fractured the relationship. The Law revealed the distance. But the New Covenantrestores what was lost. Through Christ, God no longer writes His commands on stone tablets—butinto hearts transformed by the Spirit. The world resists this idea of divine authority written within. It says, “Follow your heart.” But theGospel says, “Let God reshape your heart.”Bible Study QuestionsWhat does it mean for God to write His law on our hearts?1.How does this differ from external religious rule-following?2.What does this promise reveal about the intimacy God desires?3.Writing PromptWhat are the areas in your life where you’ve trusted your own feelings over God’s truth? Ask God toreshape your heart so His desires become your own.THE FULFILLMENT OF THE COVENANT

Scripture1 John 3:8 (ESV) - “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has beensinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of thedevil.”InsightJesus didn’t just come to forgive sin. He came to destroy what the devil had built. Every falsesystem, every deception, every enslaving work of evil—Christ came to break them. His mission waswar. And He won.The world likes a tame Jesus—one who comforts but doesn’t confront. But Scripture reveals aconquering Christ who came to overthrow the prince of darkness and rescue His people.Bible Study QuestionsWhat are “the works of the devil” referred to in this verse?1.How does Jesus’ mission redefine how we view spiritual warfare?2.What does this verse say about Christ’s authority?3.Writing PromptWhere have you viewed Jesus more as a comforter than a conqueror? How does recognizing Hisvictory over the devil’s works give you courage in your daily walk?THE MISSION OF THE MESSIAH

THE MISSION OF THE MESSIAH

Page 36

Scripture1 John 4:1 (ESV) - “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether theyare from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”InsightThe serpent’s first move was to speak—and his tactic hasn’t changed. Today, the world is floodedwith voices claiming to be true, spiritual, loving, or enlightened. But not all are from God. Scripturewarns us: test everything. This is the lie of spiritual relativism—that all paths lead to the same truth, and all “light” is good. ButGod gives us His Word and Spirit to discern the difference between truth and deception.Bible Study QuestionsWhy does John command us to test the spirits?1.What are some modern “voices” that appear spiritual but contradict God’s Word?2.How do we practically discern what is from God?3.Writing PromptWhat voices are you currently listening to (books, podcasts, social media, people)? How are youtesting them by the Word of God?DISCERNING THE TRUTH IN A WORLD OF VOICES

ScriptureJohn 16:13 (ESV) - “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he willnot speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you thethings that are to come.”InsightGod doesn’t just leave us to navigate deception alone. He sends the Holy Spirit—called the Spirit oftruth—to guide His people. The same Spirit who hovered over the waters in creation now indwellsbelievers, opening our eyes to what is real, eternal, and holy.In a world addicted to emotionalism, mysticism, and self-made “truth,” the Spirit anchors us inGod’s revealed Word. He leads us not by feeling, but by truth—never contradicting Scripture.Bible Study QuestionsWhat is the role of the Holy Spirit according to this verse?1.How does the Spirit’s guidance differ from human intuition or emotion?2.Why is the Spirit’s title “Spirit of truth” significant?3.Writing PromptWhen have you trusted a feeling or experience more than the Spirit’s witness through Scripture? THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

Page 40

ScripturePsalm 119:105 (ESV) - “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”InsightIn a world clouded with confusion, God’s Word doesn’t just give information—it gives direction. Itlights the path forward when everything around us feels uncertain or dark. And it keeps us fromstumbling into deception.Satan’s original strategy was to twist God’s Word. The Spirit’s strategy is to illuminate it—to plant itdeep in us and lead us step by step. Scripture isn’t just truth on paper; it’s truth for your life.Bible Study QuestionsWhat does this verse say about the function of Scripture?1.Why is it described as both a “lamp” and a “light”?2.How does this verse contrast the confusion of the world’s “truth”?3.Writing PromptWhen has God’s Word brought clarity to a situation you were struggling with? Where do you needto seek His light now?THE LIGHT FOR OUR PATH

ScriptureRomans 8:14–16 (ESV) - “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did notreceive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption assons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we arechildren of God.”InsightThe Spirit not only guides us into truth—He reminds us who we are. The lie from the gardenquestioned God’s heart: “Does He really love you? Is He withholding something?” But the Spiritsilences that voice with assurance: “You are His. You belong.”We’re not orphans in a dark world. We are children—adopted, beloved, and guided.Bible Study QuestionsWhat is the connection between being led by the Spirit and being a child of God?1.How does the Spirit testify to our identity in Christ?2.Why is assurance important in a world full of fear and lies?3.Writing PromptHave you struggled to believe that God truly sees you as His child? Scripture2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV) - “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, forreproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”InsightThe Word of God is not a passive book. It is breathed out by God, alive with His authority, andsufficient for every part of the Christian life. In a world that uses words to manipulate or distract, Goduses His Word to build, shape, and train His people for truth and holiness. This is how we fight the lie: not by shouting louder, but by wielding the sword of the Spirit—theScriptures.Bible Study QuestionsWhat are the four uses of Scripture listed in this passage?1.Why is it important that Scripture is “God-breathed”?2.How is God’s Word different from human ideas or philosophies?3.Writing PromptWhat role does Scripture currently play in your daily life? ScriptureRomans 16:20 (ESV) - “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of ourLord Jesus Christ be with you.”InsightThis is the promise that echoes Genesis 3:15. Christ has crushed the serpent’s head, and His Churchwill share in that victory. Evil will not have the final word. The One who defeated death will one daybring every trace of darkness under His rule. The world says, “Darkness is permanent.” The Gospel says, “Not for long.”Bible Study QuestionsHow does this verse complete the promise of Genesis 3:15?1.What does it mean that Satan will be crushed under our feet?2.Why is God called the “God of peace” in this context of spiritual warfare?3.Writing PromptHow can you live today with the confidence that Satan’s defeat is certain? And God’s people aren’t just bystanders inthat victory—we share in it. The final crushing is coming. ScriptureRomans 1:25 (ESV) - “Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped andserved the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.”InsightTThis is the heart of the fall—and the heart of every rebellion since. Humanity exchanged the truthfor a lie. Every culture, philosophy, and false religion flows from this trade. But the Gospel reversesthe exchange. It brings us back to worship the Creator instead of creation. It calls us to truth again. And now, the question becomes personal: Have you made the exchange back?Bible Study QuestionsWhat lie did humanity embrace, according to this verse?1.How does the Gospel reverse that exchange?2.In what ways does worship shape what we believe is true?3.Writing PromptWhat’s one area of your life where you’ve been tempted to worship the created instead of theCreator? InsightIn the garden, humanity listened to a lie and lost everything.Throughout history, we’ve seen that lie shape nations, destroy lives, and deceive hearts. But throughthe promises of God, the obedience of Christ, and the gift of the Spirit, truth has prevailed. Theserpent has been crushed. The cross has spoken. The Word has been written—on hearts that wereonce stone but now beat with grace. This devotional was not meant to give you more information. It was meant to bring transformation.Because God didn’t just want to rescue you from the lie. He wanted to write His truth into your soul.Final Reflection QuestionsWhat lies has God revealed to you during this study?1.How have you seen His truth more clearly?2.What steps will you take to walk in that truth—renewed, free, and full of Gospel hope?3.Final Writing PromptWhat’s one area of your life where you’ve been tempted to worship the created instead of theCreator? You exposed the lie in thegarden, and You have crushed the serpent through Your Son. You have written Your Word on myheart, not just so I would know it, but so I would live it. Forgive me for the ways I’ve believed theworld’s distortions. Thank You for giving me Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your Son. Teach me tolove truth. Train me to walk in it.
