Breckyn Steele is an 8th grader at Lake Highlands Junior High School in Dallas, TX, and is currently serving as Miss Richardson?s Outstanding Teen. She will be competing for the title of Miss Texas? Outstanding in June. No stranger to the stage, this will be Breckyn?s second time competing, previously as Miss Mount Pleasant?s Outstanding Teen 2021.Knowing that her social impact initiative needed to be something close to her heart, Breckyn created ?Learning Differently with Dyslexia.? As a younger child, Breckyn struggled with reading and comprehension, but wasn?t tested for dyslexia until her younger brother was diagnosed. A few weeks later Breckyn too was diagnosed and immediately started her dyslexia classes, which have made all the difference! She now advocates for the importance of early detection. She also enjoys going into local schools to talk to students about her journey with dyslexia and how she doesn?t let it limit her! This learning difference, which can be debilitating, is also disheartening to young readers. As a source of encouragement, many authors have generated books featuring characters that can identify with these problems. Having experienced the benefits firsthand, Breckyn saw an opportunity to get this helpful resource into as many hands as possible. At present, she has raised funds, purchased, and donated over 100 of these books to local schools and libraries.Along with her work in the local community, Breckyn has partnered with the Dallas Branch of the International Dyslexia Association to provide funding for specialized dyslexia therapy, advocate for literacy tutoring, and raise awareness by being a speaker for their monthly meetings. Being able to share her experience with education professionals, parents, and students is a true passion and ongoing mission because as someone who could have easily fallen through the cracks, Breckyn was fortunate to receive appropriate treatment and education to help her succeed and she feels called to do her part to ensure the same for every student with dyslexia.Having a learning difference does not define a person nor does it limit what they can accomplish and Breckyn is diligently working to remove the stigma that often surrounds diagnosis and special learning. It begins with education and advocacy. It is proven by the example. That example is Breckyn Steele.Breckyn?s Five Favorite Things 1. Tying new and unique food2. Snow skiing3. Shopping 4. This year I also created and helped brew a "FEED ME" blueberry wheat ale at a local brewery (NU Brewery) in which $1 per beer goes to the Good Shepherd. I also becam e a published author with my first book "We All Stir t he Pot to End Hunger " now on Amazon which benefit s Feeding America. It is a book t hat opens the dialogue between parents and children about hunger and how they can help or use the recipes in the back to feed t heir fam ily. We all stir the pot - even though we don't realize we're holding a spoon.https://www.amazon.com/We-All-St ir-Pot-Ourselves/dp/1223183351THE CRUSHING HUNGER TOUR

Should you workout during pageant weekend? The answer could be yes or no? depending on who you are as a person! Let ?s be real, some of us are ?Workout Wendy,? while ot hers of us are ?Com pet it ion Cindy.? Both personas are awesome for pageant weekend. Here are a few tips to help you figure out which contest ant you are during pageant weekend when it comes to working out !Workout Wendy:Energy BoosterThis cont est ant works out because it gives her t he energy she needs to keep up wit h the rest of pageant weekend. She works out early in t he morning to start her day off right and wit hout a morning workout in, you can tell her energy is not where it needs to be.Did you know t hat the am ount of endorphins t hat are released during your workout depends on the int ensit y of the workout ? Check out this article to help you decide how vigorous you want your pageant workout to be.Zen PlaceIt could be a way to wind down from the day. Pageant weekend can be very stressful and for som e, working out is a way for them to stay calm and collect themselves after a day of event s and activities.RoutineWorking out has become so rout ine that she can do it in her sleep! Missing a day wouldn?t just knock her off her schedule, it could potent ially knock her off her com petit ive edge.Compet ition Cindy:RequirementThis cont est ant only started working out because it ?s a required part of the com pet it ion. She never worked out before and it doesn?t give her the energy boost that she needs? this contestant would rather have caffeine to start her day off right! If working out doesn?t come naturally to you, find a fitness coach in Pageant Planet ?s directory to help you st ay in shape.Injury ProneIf you?re injury prone, we?d definit ely suggest steering clear of t he gym area during pageant weekend. The last thing you need is to injure yourself t rying to workout and there goes the rest of t he competition for you.If your coach has always been wit h you at every workout but isn?t able to be there during pageant weekend, it ?s another good idea to just stay away in case you do somet hing you shouldn?t .ChoreIf you?re more stressed about going to workout than you are excited to, then don?t add more stress to your plat e by trying to squeeze in som e time in your schedule for a workout. It ?ll definit ely be less stressful than what a workout could actually make you feel.Like we said, if you?re just working out because you feel like you have to or everyone else is doing it , you might want t o rethink your priorities during pageant weekend. It ?s more im portant t o stay on t op of your game inst ead of trying t o fit in wit h everyone else. But hey, if working out helps you stay in your compet itive mindset, then go for it honey! So which one are you - Workout Wendy or Competit ion Cindy?
